Sad with the news that 2 got killed in SEA Games stampede. Tainted, the sole reason of unifying the SEA region is tainted with this horrible news. What for would people go watch the game if security itself cannot be secured?
life of a working person: have the money, have the energy, but don't have the time.
The Filipinos are a seafaring people even before the Spaniards arrived. We are good at navigating the seas. Seeing the current dismal state of the Navy doesn't do the best sailors in the world any justice. We need to have state of the art ships, something we can actually use to defend our country.
I wish I had a switch to let my body go on auto-pilot on workdays when I need to recharge and take my mind off stressful issues.
Interesting. That's the beauty of history, it is an interpretation of a historical evidence. No one really cannot tell what really happened in the past since we were not around then, and we really can't rely on historical records because they were written from a perspective as well which is influenced by one's biases. History therefore is subjective. No single historical interpretation is absolute.
Yes, we have the vintas and smaller crafts, but don't you think our ancestors mastered using them? They might not have been as big as those that brought the Chinese to Africa or the Japanese to South East Asia but they were mastered. True, their structural integrity may not be strong enough to bring us to the neighboring countries, but we knew our way around in a country with turbulent seas which is visited by an average of 22 typhoons a year and for that it takes a lot of skill. Historical records also show Moros attacking the Spanish settlements then with their light seacrafts (on the premise that we do not have big ships and are limited within inter-island range, one can deduce that they must have come from within the Philippine territory). Are they not skilled seafarers?
Modern day, it is undoubted that our current seafarers are among the best in the world. Does this mean that we don't deserve a state-of-the-art navy then?

Being groupmates with a consistent dean's lister:
Pro: Get high grades.
Con: Too demanding and petty.
Not worth it. Not the type of person I would like to work with.![]()
I had groupmates before who were consistent DLs though they're not that demanding when it came to school outputs. In fact, I liked them haha.
However, I had one groupmate in the past whom I hated so much. Sometimes I wonder why this person has reached college in the first place. She needs to improve herself really. That person:
- would just act like a know-it-all person but could not produce outputs that would satisfy the prof's expectations.
- would pretend she's a good leader.
- could not initiate to accomplish specific group tasks.
- would just blame others when things get wrong.
- is too emotional.
- would post "thank God" on Facebook when the group got a very high grade in the final output. If I were to quantify, she only contributed 5% of the group's output.
- could not speak well.
Take note that this person whom I'm referring to is a dean's lister. Sobrang swerte lang nito sa mga kagroup niya kaya mataas yung mga grades niya.
NOw this is NOT the type of person I would like to work with.![]()
^ by the way, hindi naman lahat ng consistent dean's listers. Meron lang talaga iba diyan na "obsessed" sa pagmaintain ng pagiging 1st honors DL.![]()
^One thing I learned about grades, it's just an indication of how a student performed in his classes throughout college -- but it doesn't necessarily mean that a person with high grades performs well at work, or relates well with others. Pero maganda pa ring tingnan ang magandang grades sa transcript, and employers still look at the transcript in the evaluation of one's employment application so that should be enough for you guys to do well in school![]()
Most companies do not use transcript as part of their hiring process already. They provide exams to measure the knowledge of the applicant. In my field (IT), technical interview, panel interview does the job of the transcript. My friend submitted her transcript of records a week or 2 weeks after he/she started his/her job.
I also had similar experience. They just take the fun out of learning, those grade-obsessed maniacs. I dunno, pwede namang cool cool lang <I graduated with Latin honor din naman kahit papano> and getting high grades is really hard but one doesn't have to make other people's lives difficult dahil sa obsession niya.![]()
Marami akong kakilala na ganyan, pero matataas na talaga grades nila since high school..
