What's it like to be a student at CSB?

HONESTLY. I'm considering transferring to CSB, and I know it's a good college (I've been reading this forum for a while, so you dont have to sell me on what a great school it is) but I also, well I don't really know what the environment is like, I have friends who say that it's super "petiks", right now at my university (it isnt one of the "big4" but I am taking a science course) everyone is super stressed out, and everyone was saying "Lipat na ng csb!" because they say, yeah it's super chill. But of course, they don't go to csb. So I wanna ask you guys

Do you think CSB is chill?
    Whats your schedule like?
    Are your professors strict?
Do you commute? If so, how? (If I transferred to CSB, I'd have to take 2 trains, I didn't even apply to DLSU because I was SO TIRED just getting the application, I KNEW I couldnt do it for 4 years if I passed DLSU, so I didnt bother taking the exam)

And just add anything else you'd like to add

I hope a current CSB student can answer this question... although it is kinda general hehe. I believe it depends on the course you want to take.

The "super chill" part... probably on a per program basis and of course the attitude of the student. In the Game Design and Development program... "super chill" will "probably" result to you shifting-out if not repeating a subject or subjects for a year... that is based from the talk given and created by the GDD students when we presented in UP's Y4IT (a month ago)... the most super chill portion of GDD is probably your first term... come 2nd trimester and on-wards... totally different story.

Anyhow, again... I hope a "current" CSB student answers this... and hopefully you can share what course you're currently taking (different experience per course and per student though)... and because the CSB (now) is different from the CSB of old.

Well for me, CSB life is kind of chill but not to the point na you can slack off. There are times one will be given a lot of work load. I think depende rin sa course mo and prof eh. There are really strict profs who really give a lot of requirements and there are those rin na hindi.
Sa schedule naman, it's okay. Either 5 days or 4 days. I just don't like my schedue this term puro three hours break everyday eh. Oh, and i also commute. I live in Makati so it's near. Traffic around Taft's pretty crazy especially sa rush hour time though.

Siguro qualified pa ako since it hasn't been that long since I officially left school.

CSB is "chill" in the sense that once you gotten used to the daily going-ons with your campus life, sanay ka na sa mga kagawian dito. Just don't pressure yourself too much, enjoy life as a college student in CSB but at the same time, huwag maging pabaya sa pag-aaral mo. Just a good balance is all you need.

Schedule will varies depending on your course or if your a frosh or an upperclassman. In the case of MMA, I have to make my schedule time-efficient, and allows me some free enough time to rest, and do projects at home. It's a matter of trying to strategize and making the most of the schedule you have at the moment.

Professors aren't necessarily strict if there's a reason for them to be. They teach through example and they also help us out with whatever shortcomings we have kaya grateful ako sa mga ganong profs dahil hindi ko mahahasa mga kakayahan ko kung di dahil sa kanila.

And yes I do commute. Every morning, sumasabay ako sa carpool ng parents ko if I have to be in school early in the day pero in most occasions, namamasahe lang ako. Kahit wala akong class in the morning, sumasabay pa rin ako sa carpool namin para lang makatipid sa pamasahe at gawin yung mga projects ko habang maaga pa.

If you are thinking that CSB is considered "chill" It's absolutely a no-no haha! Maybe on your first year and it actually depends on your professor and maybe on your choice of course. BTW, I'm a benildean taking up BSBA-HRM and I tell you that this is one of the toughest courses in CSB. I think that SMIT has the hardest courses. On what course will you take up ba?

My schedule is on a night shift until 9pm, it's fun though coz' the start of my class is late, sometimes at 3pm or 6pm. You get to choose your own sched naman.

There are profs that are strict, but I think most naman are not. But some profs require super duper work loads! Some profs naman have exams to be answered at home or online hahaha swerte mo nun.

Nakakapagod magcommute! I ride mrt and lrt everyday and it's hassle when your dismissal is on a rush hour tsss haha but I'm used to it naman na. Pero I have friends na may condo, uso na may condo sa isang student hahaha.

^o di kaya'y magdorm. Inggit ako lagi sa mga kaibigan ko na nagcocondo o nagdodorm. Kaso 1 hour ang commute ko lagi kaya hindi ko na rin inintindi hahaha

    Talking

I'm a current student of CSB taking up AB-MMA. I'm also a scholar. I have to say it's not really petiks in a sense that it's easier compared to other schools. In fact, most of my past blockmates have transferred to other schools because they find it hard. I think it only becomes easy if you're naturally talented or if you're not a fan of studying.

On the professors they are either "bagets", picky, terror, easy, absent. I've had professors who are terribly nice but the work is more terrible. There are those who are bagets, who are easier to talk to and then there are those terror profs who believes you have to know everything already, and then there are those who don't attend half the term and your grades suffer. But generally, I've never met a prof who's not tolerable.

Commuting is tiring! I suggest you DON'T COMMUTE. I only take one bus to go to school and it takes me 1 to 2 hours. The worst being 3 hours because of rush hour! It's better to get a condo especially if you plan to be an art student. I think the other buildings kind of have it easier compared to SDA students on commuting (especially when we have to bring our homeworks like large oil paintings, models etc.)

If you're really into out-of-the-ordinary teaching or college experience. CSB is the best. You meet all kinds of people (in my 1st year in CSB, I met a Gundam cosplayer in the elevator! Not kidding!) and the teaching-learning experience is more hands-on than most schools. If you do get into CSB, inform me! I'm currently a sophomore! Goodluck!

CSB student is cool. You're A Lasallian and a Benildean.

    Enough said!

Being a Benildean is fun and challenging, I just graduated today and I feel like I'm starting to miss everything about CSB. It doesn't necessarily mean that life here is kinda easy or something. People don't know how many sleepless nights we've sacrificed just to finish our term papers, major projects and the bloody thesis paper as well. People in this school are great, it's not hard to find new friends here and staffs/employees are really accommodating. While on the professors, there are nice, friendly, terror/strict, joker/funny, serious, generous faculty members in this school. They are all amazing. You will definitely enjoy your stay in CSB.

reposted so i would not accidentally echo other people's opinion. this statement is so correct that i was starting to type what i have to say about this chill and petiks understatement until i saw this. people, if you think that csb is "chill" and" petiks", read the quoted post above.

Thank you for all the replies! Now I REALLY wanna transfer! I'm considering taking either MMA or Archi. I'm still not sure if I'm gonna be able to transfer though I'm too chicken to ask my parents (I asked this question so I can put together a little presentation for them why CSB is good school, I'll show them this thread).

The old stereotypes are long gone. And as the old saying goes, "too much of anything can be bad for you." Chill and petiks included! They will bite you in the rear if you don't achieve your goals.

  14. #14
I believe in any college or university you have the option to be relaxed or like what you said petiks, but that would not be with out cost.

If you opt to go to CSB thinking na petiks lang ang buhay doon and yet you will graduate on time, that is a big mistake, to enter in CSB is easy but to make it through CSB is a matter of blood and sweat.

I have batch mates and even seniors who opted na mag paka petiks lang and they were there in CSB for about 6-7 years for a course which should be done in 3-4 years.

One good thing in CSB that will relatively make life lighter is that there are many support facilities and programs to assist students, there are many wellness activities, guidance counselors, students org etc. to assit you almost in everything if necessary.

Expect a hard life especially if you got the practitioner professors. At the end of the day I believe the option is yours, what form of life you want to live in any college or university. BTW there are no science courses in CSB.

Hi! Matagal na tong post dito kaso ijust want to ask kung mahirap talaga ang SMIT? Lalo na sa math?kasi gusto ko sana mag transfer next school year and im taking up management. Kaso natatakot ako baka bumagsak lang ako :/

  16. #16
Kung ganyan agad ang mentality mo, bakit ka pa lilipat? Take it as a challenge to find out if you're worthy for the course by making the choice and not relying on what the rest have to say. Mind over matter!
