Windows Phone to Overtake the iPhone in Russia This Quarter
Posted by Joe Fedewa on March 2 at 10:04am

While Windows Phone may not be popular here in the States yet over in Russia it’s the bees knees. According to the IDC over 250,000 Windows Phone devices have been sold in Russia since September. It’ growing so fast that they expect market share to raise from 3% all the way to 14% by years end. They even expect Windows Phone to overtake the iPhone this quarter.

Retailers are reporting that Windows Phone is starting off better than Android did in 2009. And buyers are very satisifed with their devices, reporting a 98% satisfaction rate. Time and time again we see these great numbers and stats from other countries. It’s only a matter of getting more devices until we see the same thing here in the U.S.

    Understanding Metro:

Metro, Microsoft's new UI, is bold, a dramatic departure from anything the company has
previously done in the desktop/laptop space, and absolutely great. It's tangible proof that
Redmond really can design and build its own unique products and experiences.
    Metro's design
heavily emphasizes text and uses brightly-colored background tiles as a means of differentiating
programs. It uses very little chrome (in this context, the term "chrome" refers to the use of
buttons and icons to represent specific functions). Minimize, Maximize, the X "close window"
button and the taskbar itself are all examples of chrome.

Aerosynth don't you get tired of posting or flooding the Technology today threads with MS ads, articles and promotions?.

I'll be honest with you my friend, it annoys us the way you post multiple replies but none of them attracts other users anymore. And I believe it's prohibited cause I saw in other section here in pex especially in LMTV GMTV, if you flood the threads with multiple posts, there's a possibility that admin might ban you.

    just sayin.

Nokia likely to launch Windows 8 tablet PCs in 4Q12, say sources
    DIGITIMES [Monday 12 March 2012]

Nokia will team up with Microsoft to venture into the tablet PC market by releasing a 10-inch Windows 8-based tablet PC set on Qualcomm's dual-core platform in the fourth quarter of 2012 at the earliest, according to sources at upstream component suppliers.

Nokia is expected to outsource production of the 10-inch tablets to Compal Electronics with the first batch of shipments to top 200,000 units, the sources revealed.

Nokia's joining of the WoA (Windows on ARM) camp is expected to give Microsoft additional strength to compete with Google's Android platform as well as Apple's iOS, the sources noted.

However, other sources noted that Nokia's venture into the tablet PC market will also further intensify competition among non-iPad tablet PC vendors.

Comscore shows Microsoft mobile OS installed base continues to drop
    March 6, 2012

The Microsoft Mobile installed base in USA has suffered a further drop, with 15,000 less users of Windows Mobile and Windows Phone in USA in January 2012, as measured by Comscore.

At the moment 4.4% of 101 million US smartphone subscribers use a Microsoft mobile OS, down from 4.6 million in December 2011.

With the Windows Mobile share obviously fading fast, we expect this number to continue to decrease until Windows Phone market share rises to meet it, hopefully with the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900 soon.

Windows 8 : It’s going to be everywhere!

It’s going to be everywhere. We’re talking about Windows, the most pervasive software in
history. Even if Windows 8 doesn’t live up to Microsoft’s projections, even if it’s a Vista-esque
dud, it’s going to ship on millions of devices from a bevy of manufacturers. It’ll get a fair shot
at succeeding, which is more than some iPad alternatives have received.

iPhone Fails to Grab Lead in China Smartphone Market, Samsung Increases Lead With 24.3%
Posted by J. Angelo Racoma on March 12, 2012

Apple may have had a big iPhone 4S launch with China Telecom just last week. But even with the latest iPhone 4S reaching Chinese shores (as if they ever left it at all, with iPhones being manufactured in China), Apple has been slipping in terms of market share in this country. With Samsung tripling its lead over Apple in the smartphone business, China will need to cater to more Chinese mobile networks soon.

Gartner pegs Samsung as China's top smartphone maker, ranks Apple fifth overall
    Mar 12th 2012

Analysts at the research firm Gartner have come out and crowned Samsung as the most popular smartphone producer in China. The Korean manufacturer beat out others such as Nokia, Huawei, ZTE and Apple to score the title, and now boasts a rather impressive 24.3 percent market share in the country. While the iPhone 4S is portrayed as the most desired handset in China, Gartner suggests its limited availability with carriers played a large role in Samsung's achievement. The report provides a stark contrast with Apple's global success, which was recently named by Gartner as the top smartphone manufacturer in the world. The importance of China can't be overlooked, however, which is now projected to overtake the United States as the largest smartphone market. Until Apple further expands its carrier reach, it appears to be smooth sailing for Samsung -- unless Nokia is able to apply some pressure from its new Windows Phone handsets, that is.
