    Crappy Music Of Today

does anyone else feel like music had totally gone down? cause that's what i feel. i used to have so much passion for music. but those were the times when i was growing up during the glory of 90s, 80s, 70s, and 60's music. now, i dont know where it had gone cause its all crappy. all they contain are swearing lyrics, mostly revivals/remakes and no more originality, and beatless garbage. can someone still save all that's left of music?

Noon me marinig ka lang na indirect lyrics about sex eh medyo nagugulat na mga tao. Kahit yung 2 become 1 ng Spice Girls medyo naging controversial pa na about sex daw.

Potek, tignan mo mga sounds now and some years ago: "I wanna F*ck you - Akon", "Birthday Sex - Jeremih", etc etc.

That's what sells, man - SEX!!! If you can't stand all the gun talk and sexuality in modern R&B/ Hip hop, go stick to your American Idols!!!

You gotta thank your sorry arses you're not in Singapore/Malaysia, where hip hop is banned from radio airplay

sex sells, and people are (unfortunately) buying.

but at least we have a choice. so i'm glad to be living in the Philippines - one of the best places in the world to be a woman.

masasabi ko iba talaga ang love songs dati. kahit mahilig ako sa mga makabagong kanta, iba pa rin ang kurot ng mga love songs nung 70's 80's 90's.

well I agree on the TS, partially.

although laking 90s music ako, I would still appreciate the music from the 2000s up to now, just to catch up with the current music.

but I really don't appreciate Korean pop or J-pop music.

well, approximately more than 90% of mainstream music today is crappy and superficially made for consumerist 1d1ots
basically, i loathe most mainstream pop music, and almost all of rap

EDIT: just read some post above me, i'm jealous singapore bans rap , well i'd expect nothing less from them, i'm really enthralled by their systematic governance through discipline, i hope it becomes a crime to listen to rap

I've nothing against Rap music, in fact I love it. What irks me though are the reasons same as yours, songs that are very superficial and downright dumb to say the least. Raps that talk about the hardships of life, the path to their dreams and genuine affection to another - those are great. Raps that just talk about sex, money and what you did at some f*cking place the other night? Piss on that sh*t.

Just for the record I'm not really a big rap fan, just love genuine music that has substance to it. I'm more of a Pop-rock/Blues rock (J.Meyer, J. Mraz, Ray LaMontagne etc) Modern Classic & Soul (Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding etc) and RnB/Hip-hop (Chris Brown, Wiz K etc)

Not really sure if Singapore or Malaysia bans rap music from radio airplay (haven't even visited these places myself), but that was my impression when I used to watch MTV/Channel V several years ago. Even then, I know Singaporeans/ Malaysians can easily access online radio or streaming to get their hip-hop jones on

Mainstream music lang naman. There are lots of good artists out there that don't get airplays on the radio.

a.k.a. Is music getting worse, or am I just getting older?

    This.

I don't understand why anyone is complaining about today's quality of music. There was, is and will be crappy music in this world. I think people are just listening to the wrong sources.

What can one expect when this generation's "voice of rock" has been bulldozed and paved over to make room for palengke radio's expansion?

I love the music of 80's to 90's. Mas sincere and may message. Ngayon I actually am not listening to new songs. Walang sense yung ibang mga kanta.

Dig deeper...you don't have to be hampered by what the wasteland of local radio (or MYX for that matter) offers you. Read spin.com, rcrdlbl.com, pitchfork.com or grooveshark.com for that matter.

I’m not watching MYX really. It’s a waste of time. I listen not on the radio too. I look for artists that suits my preference for music online when I feel the need to update my playlist. It’s much better.

I don't say na generally crappy na ang music these days. I admit, I miss the late 90's early 00's music. Yun kasi ang generation na naabutan ng pagkamuwang ko sa mga songs. If I could turn back time, I would like to go back and savor the days. Pero nowadays, meron pa rin namang magagandang songs. The internet is just a click away. Ang daming critically-acclaimed songs dyan. Some are not that mainstream, and I prefer na wag silang maging sobrang mainstream to keep the sanctity of their musical writing.
