    Downton Abbey

    http://youtu.be/fnjkQ02BZhM

Synopsis: The Downton Abbey estate stands a splendid example of confidence and mettle, its family enduring for generations and its staff a well-oiled machine of propriety. But change is afoot at Downton — change far surpassing the new electric lights and telephone. A crisis of inheritance threatens to displace the resident Crawley family, in spite of the best efforts of the noble and compassionate Earl, Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville); his American heiress wife, Cora (Elizabeth McGovern); his comically implacable, opinionated mother, Violet (Maggie Smith); and his beautiful, eldest daughter, Mary, intent on charting her own course. Reluctantly, the family is forced to welcome its heir apparent, the self-made and proudly modern Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), himself none too happy about the new arrangements. As Matthew's bristly relationship with Mary begins to crackle with electricity, hope for the future of Downton's dynasty takes shape. But when petty jealousies and ambitions grow among the family and the staff, scheming and secrets — both delicious and dangerous — threaten to derail the scramble to preserve Downton Abbey. Created and written by Oscar-winner Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park), Downton Abbey offers a spot-on portrait of a vanishing way of life.

Those Emmy Nominations and Wins would tell you that this is not a series that you should pass. Everything starts because of the sinking of Titanic, loosing both heirs of the estate. This is one brilliant period show.

This show reminds me several of my favorite movies... Sense and Sensibility, on the plot that women during the shows setting are not entitled to any inheritance where season 1's story revolves. New episodes of season 2 makes me feel like its from scenes of Atonement, must be the beautiful outdoor cinematography of the gardens and the obviously the war. And his Lordship Robert Crawly reminds me of that accountant in Notting Hill

Now if you think its not possible to be cunningly rude and still be polite and so refine in doing so..this show can make it possible. I especially enjoy Maggie Smiths on-liner banters to Isobel.

I was wondering if that news about the sinking of Titanic on the pilot episode mentioned about Jack and Rose...

I love the Downton Abbey Christmas special, I agree with Lavinia - I'm so rooting for cousin Mathew and Lady Mary to still be together. Fingers cross indeed.

I do! I do! Was wondering when would someone make a thread. I am not to be trusted with such task.ehehe

    Love the Christmas episode!

Pero kinakabahan ako para kay Mary/Matthew sa third series.

It was a very great Christmas episode..my only complain is there was no Sybil scenes, but there were mentions which I'm sure would be a prelude to the 3rd season story line. I knew I love Mary's character from the pilot episode pa lang, kahit she's quite mean pa before.

I'm wondering what are the big events in England during the 20's.. the only I know about it, since I just saw Midnight in Paris and they say that the decade was called the Golden Twenties.

I think I watched Downton Abbey 8 times. I admit I'm sort of an anglophile and I just love that particular Edwardian period! I love most of the characters esp. Anna and Mr. Bates, Gwen, Daisy and William, Mrs. Patmore, and The Dowager Countess. I have the 2nd season in .AVIs - but I just could not bear to watch it on a tiny laptop screen. I'm seriously thinking of ordering the 2nd season BD from Amazon UK because I could not wait for the US release. The complicated issue of the entail and Cora's money and Matthew's future title is so intriguing. And the lives of the servants which are no less important - are so relatable. For months now I've had the complete Upstairs Downstairs on DVD and that'll be my next series to watch after DA 2.

Started watching this show just last December 30 and breezed through all the episodes of Season 1 and 2 including the Christmas episode within 2 days! This period drama is really so good. And by the way, Hugh Bonneville who played Robert Crowley is indeed actually the guy who played the accountant in Notting Hill hahahaha!!!

We still have 1 year to wait for series 3 and although the Christmas episode ended on a happy note, there is still the unresolved issue of whether or not Patrick the real heir is indeed alive.

^^ you also should check out the DA Behind the Drama episode..a recap and interviews with the cast. It's fun seeing them in their present selves. Can't help but compare how they look in their DA characters. And would you believe the Turkish story was real? Scandalous!

I wonder if they'd resurrect the Patrick/Peter Gordon character. That was certainly out of left field. I mean, yun na yun? Cousin Matthew still becomes heir and now happily-ever-after na with Lady Mary... I love that they're together, but I'm expecting a challenge nanaman sa inheritance next season.

Too bad we have to wait 'til September!

My guesses for next season's story lines:
    - Sybil, Brandon and their baby going back and living at DA. I wonder how he will be treating the help with his new Upstairs status.
    - The Vera Bates plot will be revealed. I bet either Mr. Carson or Mrs. Hughes has something to do with it, or probably Carlisle..they're the one's who knew about Mary's secret.
    - Daisy and Thomas getting promotions, cook and valets respectively. Thomas will still be plotting evil schemes with O'Brien, hard to picture him otherwise.
    - Mary and Matthew can finally get married.
    - Edith ends up getting the estate after all because Patrick is really that Titanic survivor which she secretly has strong feelings with and the real heir.
    - The Dowager Countess will still be throwing her one-liners which I love and look forward to.
    - Lady Grantham and Lord Grantham will still be as clueless as ever having two of the most manipulative creatures next to them.

Still on the first series and I'm loving it. Akala ko boring, pero maganda ang story.

Not reading anything above para di ako maspoil. Rooting for cousin Mathew and Lady Mary.

    Sobrang ganda ni Lady Mary.

My unforgettable 1st season line that really cracked me up: What's a Weekend???

I got my husband to watch it too. He couldn't stop watching either. It's really one of the best dramas I've seen. I really like how fast paced it is. Hindi ko napanood yung Upstairs Downstairs. Parang ganito din daw? Anyone seen that?

Matthew: Do you love me enough to spend your life with me? If you don’t, then say no. If you do, then say yes.

    Mary: I want to-!

Shirley MacLaine will be joining the cast of Downton Abbey and will be playing Lady Grantham’s mother, Martha Levinson. Expect sparks to fly when Martha comes up against the formidable Dowager Countess... We can't wait for that moment!
