Next iPhone to have thinner in-panel screen?
July 19, 2012 4:21pm
Will the next iPhone have a screen that is thinner and lighter than the OLED one in bitter rival Samsung's smartphones?
A report on The Wall Street Journal cited people familiar with the matter saying that the screen will use new so-called in-cell technology for the iPhone screen.
The WSJ report said Sharp, Japan Display Inc. and LG Display Co. are mass-producing panels for the next iPhone, with the new panels integrating touch sensors into the LCD.
Without a 0.5-mm touch sensor layer, the screen is thinner, and the display quality may improve, it quoted DisplaySearch analyst Hiroshi Hayase as saying.
Presently, the 4.8-inch OLED screen in Samsung's new Galaxy S III is thinner than the 4S, Apple's current iPhone.
OLED screens do not require backlighting, and tend to be thinner than conventional LCD panels.
On the other hand, the new technology would "scrap" the added layer and would simplify the supply chain and help cut costs.
Also, a thinner screen may mean make extra room for other components such as batteries or wireless hardware.
But the WSJ report noted in-cell touch screens are more difficult to manufacture, even as makers of conventional touch panels like Taiwan's Wintek Corp. and TPK Holding Co., which supplied the touch-panel layer for the present iPhone, no longer got orders for the next iPhone. — TJD, GMA News

Report: Production already started for next-gen iPhone
July 22, 2012 11:24am
The next-generation iPhone, Apple Inc.'s popular smartphone, may be on the way sooner than consumers think.
An Apple enthusiast site over the weekend cited reports from "Chinese sources" who said the new iPhone has entered the production phase.
In a blog post, AppleInsider.com said the new iPhone may have design changes including glass to the unit's "uni-body" backplate.
"While previous reports pointed to a 'uni-body' chassis that featured a two-tone all-metal design, the purported production model will sport an (inlaid) glass piece between the backplate's top and bottom edges instead of leaving a bare aluminum surface," it said.
It added that unlike the iPhone 4 and 4S which have a glass sandwich design with tough Gorilla Glass front and back coverings, the new handset will reportedly have a backplate only "partially covered" by the Gorilla glass.
The change may reflect a design change to accommodate a four-inch high-resolution Retina display with 16:9 aspect ratio, it said.
AppleInsider.com also said a trusted source had notified Japanese-language MacOtakara that Chinese manufacturers have started to ramp up production of the new iPhone.
Meanwhile, AppleInsider said the latest chassis design "lacks" a small hole between the camera assembly and LED flash that some had speculated to be a rear-facing microphone for video recording.
It also said analysts pegged September to October as a likely launch time for the new iPhone, in time for the holidays. — LBG, GMA News

Guys help naman, ipod touch 4th gen's home button get stuck.
Is there any way to fix it? Or may kilala ba kayo marunong mag repair ng ganitong problem.
Everything is OK with my ipod except for the home button gets stuck.. For the mean time I'm just using the assistive touch option.
Thanks sa mag rereply.
This might help. Found this on another site (https://discussions.apple.com/thread...rt=75&tstart=0).
There is an "official" fix for this problem, and here's how to do it:
1. Open any of the preinstalled apps on your device (Stocks, YouTube, Calendar etc.)
2. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the "slide to power off" message pops down.
3. Hold down the Home button WITHOUT LETTING GO OF THE SLEEP/WAKE BUTTON.
4. You will either go back to the Home screen or the device will be in Sleep mode. Just slide to unlock if it is.
I can confirm that this trick works with the 4th Generation iPod touch, iPhone 4, iPad and iPad 2.

How to fix your iPhone/iPod touch home button
If you're unfortunate enough for you iPhone or iPod touch's home button to become sticky, unresponsive (takes a few click of home button to work) or broken (won't work no matter how many clicks) there may be a solution without sending your iPhone/iTouch back to apple for repairs:
The only tool you will need is a toothbrush - yes that's right a common toothbrush. This personally reolved the problems with my Home Button.
