    On San Sebastian Cheers

I would like to know if you guys from San Sebastian College have any plans to abandon and not to use the Go Baste cheer which is really similar to the Go Uste cheer? I would also like to know what is your reactions regarding some UAAP schools accusing your school as guilty of cheer piracy, does your school/pep squad is doing something about it? I would be happy to read opinions and reactions directly coming from San Sebastian community. Thank you.

Ang turo sa amin, the "GO USTE" cheer was derived from 1) teenage mutant ninja turtles movie 2) hala bira during ati-atihan.

now a few years ago, the SSC peeps at gameface told us that the "GO BASTE" cheer was also derived from TMNT, and they were using it since the 1980s, an assertion seconded by the bedans at that website.

the question now is, what is the truth in all of this?

Baste has been winning games in the 80s at the RMC.
I have heard them chanting Go Baste.

The Go Baste wasn't derived from TMNT but just like Letran with Go Letran Go! Go ! Letran. But Letran already discontinued that cheer.

The Go Baste is different from Go USTe.

Go Baste in the 80s sounds like:
    Go Baste ! Go.. Go.. Baste...Baste !

Go USTe in the 90s is like:
Go USTeeeehh !! Go USteeehhh !! Go! Go ! Go! Go!

I still remember this because Letran Knights faced Baste Stags more than couple of times in the Finals (era 80s) and they (Baste) always end up as bride's maid.

So it's true that they've been using Go Baste since the 80s, pero ibang klaseng Go Baste?

Parang ngayon lang. Dati Bravo Baste tapos naging Animo Baste na.

Bravo Baste yung original nila as battle cry. Same sa ating respective alma maters like:

    Arriba and Animo.

Yung animo wala silang rights dyan.

Yung dating Go Baste ok na yun. Mas maganda sana kase if we can have at least videos from the 80s. Ang problema hindi lang Go Baste at Go Letran or Arriba Letran and Bravo Baste madidinig lalo na pag Finals.

    Those were the days.

Mas maganda kung makakita tayo ng video flashback from the 80s Finals para may sagot na sa matagal ng tinantanong at maisara na ang usaping Go Baste and Go USTe issue.

i think ang issue dito ay yun "Go Basteeeeh" na katatunog nung "Go Usteeeh"

pero yun "go baste! go go baste" meron pang 2 teams na gumagamit din nyan dati. La Salle and Mapua! so sino sa kanila ang original?

Kaya nga tinawag naming signature Yell yan dahil it's our "Signature Yell". Signature yell will never be authentic without the brass wind companiment na kasama tinutugtog na which is until now tinutugog parin ng letran band na historical came from its early days as a military band.

Lahat tayo dito OT because the who one created this forum wanted someone from SSC to answer his question.

At any rate, makiki-OT na rin ako. Simula HS, College, at College of Law, I have been watching the NCAA games. It is just recently that I have heard this cheer of SSC that is substantially similar to UST's. And they have been using other words than "Bravo" in their cheers.
Regardless of who used it first, for practical reasons, some cheers, pag narinig mo, you immediately connect it to a particular school. That is the present situation.

Hindi lang naman cheers ang nagaya, pati ang "Once a Bedan Always a Bedan" ginaya na rin sa shirts nila. I will not be surprised pag may nakita ako na shirt na "Behold! I am a Sebastinian" or kaya ang team B ng SSC (kung meron man) is maging Team Behold 2". Besides, this is not surprising, sa Recto talaga, nagkalat ang mga counterfeit. Hehehe.

But on a serious note, Ok lang naman na manggaya ang SSC ng mga cheers and what-have-you. At the end of the day, sino ang nawawalan ng identity & tradition? Hindi naman tayo di ba?

go usteee! go usteee! go! go! go! go! cheer that was mentioned by the thread starter was never settled in the gameface to be a baste original. I never read in gameface that the said issue was settled in favor of baste. In fact, there are personal accounts that was posted therein that they witnessed UST using the same first way ahead of baste.

yung go baste go go baste, since time immemorial (or since when we pinoys spoke english) yan ang generic cheer. walang sino man ang pwedeng mangangkin nyan. maski DLSU ka pa.

yung kaso ay yung go baste go baste go go go go na cheer. sino ang nauna noon. ang nabasa ko sa gameface, and was seconded by bedans, was that SSC was first with the go baste go baste go go go go cheer. SSC peeps even said they derived it from the TMNT theme song.

ang kaso naman sa UST, it was taught to us that the go uste go go go go cheer was derived from the TMNT. now the issue is who is being dishonest.

^^^ tanong ko lang, paano nanggaling yung go uste sa TMNT, di ba yung kanta nila leonardo et al ganito; teenage mutant ninja turtles, teenage mutant ninja turtles....... heroes in a half shell, TURTLE POWER!

You have back read the gameface thread about cheers. Bedans there attest that the Go Baste Go Go Baste is the one being used by baste as their old staple cheer not the go usteeee go usteee go go go go cheer.

  13. #13
^^ true then some letranites also agreed to this. Dahil baste once our old allies in the rumble days ng NCAA in the 70s.

as what was said earlier, walang kaso yung go baste go go baste. simulang matututong mag-english ang mga pilipino, ito na ang cheer ng mga batang naglalaro (just replace "baste" with the team name).

ang kaso ay ang "go baste go baste go go go go" na ripped off sa "go uste go uste go go go go". i for one had never heard na "go uste" to the tune of the generic "go team go go team" cheer. either "go uste" derived from TMNT, and black gold black white. kahit yung UST cheer na ripped off from SBC cheer bihira lang gamitin. at least noong nasa live venue ako.

yung "go uste" at "black gold black white" ang suki.

natuwa lang ako sa assertion ng mga taga-SSC na nanggaling din sa TMNT ang "go baste" cheer to the tune of "go uste go go go go" cheer, which was seconded by bedans and apparently letranites too. either they were cheering the "go baste" to the tune of TMNT as early as the early 1990s. without a doubt the generic "go baste" cheer kahit sino naman pwedeng gumamit nyan.

anyway, bihira lang naman gamitin ng SSC Pep yung "go baste" to the tune of TMNT cheer, lagi yung "S S C R Bravo Baste" (seriously ang daming ripoff nitong cheer na 'to ) atsaka yung generic go baste cheer.

Pansin ko lang pati hand gesture pag ni cchheer ng SSCR yung go basteee, na hango sa UST e pareho din with matching elongated balloons pa kasama.

Or coincidence lang na, as in parehong pareho yung dalawang paaraalan pati sa hand gestures? which is which?

  17. #17
Baste should stick to the old Go Baste. No need to copy USTe's Go USTe. Be proud to your own identity.

Which is so darn irritating. They make them seem that the cheer originated from them, same goes with JRU and Mapua, That is very disrespectful to the original composer of Letran's signature yell, may he RIP.

  19. #19
^^ The composer of the signature yell is very much alive pa

just met him during summer na my alumni mass. Nangatog ako with pride when a shaked his hands. Dahil living legacy at tradition siya

  20. #20
Oh, my bad. Anyway, Im sure he is so proud especially that the cheer he produced is that good that even other schools use it
