^hmmmm. I think he prefers a team where he can maximize his playing time in his rookie year. If you have seen some interviews of him and his dad, they are heavily considering his playing time.
I asked a UST player last year, and he said, Jeron wasn't considering Ateneo (because of the minutes). But hey, that was so last year! I asked again another UST player (a former playmate of Jeron) just a few months ago that younger Teng doesn't want to go to UST either. Haha. Ewan.
If Jeron goes to Ateneo, why wouldn't he be given enough playing time? Wala na si Kirk ah? If he decides to play with Ravena, he'll forever be locked in the 3 position, which may not be too beneficial for him. AFAIK, like his brother, he's a natural 2.
But with all the popularity he's getting, hype or not, he's bound to have more than the usual minutes anywhere he goes.
In UST, kaagaw nya si Tata, Vigil, Kim Lo, our very own K-fer, and his Kuya.
He maybe a natural 2 but with his height he can do well as a 3 especially after Long graduates this year and he will be competing minutes with Zags. Under the tutelage of Black, I'm sure Jeron can do good in the 3.
What I'm concerned about is his dad. I heard his dad is a bit nosy and I'm sure Coach Norman gives premium to players with no hang-ups. *Ehem Tallo Sr.*
I don't think he'll play as a 2 in any of the three schools considering that Lasal is very guard-oriented with Tallo waiting in the sidelines, UST as you said has Tata, Vigil, Kim Lo, Ferrer and big bro Teng.
Ateneo banners big names but after the matriculation of the 2008 Recruitment class, a lot of the players in-waiting will get the minutes that they need. This year however, I am pretty sure that the first and second stringers will be a mixture of vets and newbies since one of the goals is to make good yearly transition of players to continue the x-peat.
Ferrer plays the 3 spot, just to be accurate.
Jeron won't have any problems regarding his minutes if he decides to go to UST. If he plays the 3 spot, he will be the immediate back up to Ferrer. If he slides to the 2 spot, he will share minutes with Bautista and his brother. But it's also possible that JericT share minutes with Ferrer at 3(since he's very streaky with his 3 point shooting lately), virtually making it a toss up between Jeron and Tata for the starting spot at 2.
In contrast with ADMU, Jeron would be literally struggling to get minutes from a roster of Sumalinog, Pessumal and Capacio playing the 3 spot. And it would even be difficult for him to play the 2 spot since it is virtually locked between Ravena and Gonzaga.
Ateneo does not have a strictly perimeter type player to man the 3 spot. Plus, Pessumal can't dribble for ****, Sumalinog seems gutless and Capacio untested. Buenafe could end up being inconsistent next season, too.
Jeron Teng once made 37/70 field goals mostly from the perimeter in one game. High School competition nga lang. Still, the potential to be a great fit for Norman Black's system is there.
And didn't Norman coach Robocop?
how about for adamson, ue and nu?
sino mga rookie recruits nila and mga nagreresidency na pwede na maglaro sa s75?
I guess it's this: would you rather be the big fish in a small pond or a relatively small fish in the ocean?
See, Kiefer Ravena is a phenom and he wasn't afraid to compete for minutes with his teammates. Within the team, there's always competition (but I'm sure the coaching staff makes sure it's a healthy one) to bring out the best from each player. Would you rather be a Parks on a cellar-dweller or a Ravena on a champion team?
If he's good as advertised then he can be a piano mover in his early years and a piano player in the coming years. If you think you're that good then you shouldn't be afraid about competing for minutes from team mates. Unlike other teams, there's no politics when it comes to minutes. If you're good, you get them.
Jeron Teng -
Worst case scenario - Woody Co
Best case scenario - Calvin Abueva
Bakit ang mga tao dito... always on the move to put DLSU down? Takot ba kayo?
Much worse case scenario: Watson So
I think it's a no-brainer to pick the team where you can easily get minutes over a team where you will have to struggle to get even just one. Unless you just want to join the bandwagon, on the bench.
I won't believe doon sa tweet ni Remington Badua, from this day up until the day UAAP Season 75, marami pang puwedeng mangyari, tingnan mo nangyari kay Tallo.
Kahit makita ko sa pre-season games si Jeron playing for La Salle, I will still wait for the team's first game of the UAAP at kung nandun siya.
Anything can happen from this day up to next season
Exactly. Besides UE and UP, UST is a very good destination for Jeron since they don't have a deep roster after the starting five as of the moment.
Yup that is correct, especially that UAAP basketball has just recently ended. Not unless of course that player himself said so with finality.
Another example was Louie Vigil, who was supposed to play for DLSU but ended up with UST.
UST is actually a smart choice especially if you want to compete minutes with your brother. He has a potential to be a good 3 but if he wants to remain a 2, then so be it.
Tallo case just gives a lot of lessons to schools.
If I were Jeron, this is the way I should look at my options
1. UST - Not a lot of 2 in their roster. Next year they are good team with only Camus graduating.
2. Ateneo - Champion team. He can play a 3 to replace Kirk. His game can be developed by 'the' Coach Norman Black. His sweet three-point shooting is his upside to get good minutes.
3. La Salle - internal problems; DLSU has a lot of guards and guards-in-waiting.
Kung sino makakuha kay jeron, tingin ko magbubust yun.
With UST's intact starting five of Abdul, Camus(yes he is going to play next season), Ferrer, JericT and Jeric Fortuna, Jeron would be a solid second stringer for the Tigers either playing 3(his playing position in HS) or 2 since none of the guards in this year's lineup have shown solid potential in backing up either Ferrer or JericT(although one might argue Lo and Vigil have been showing signs of the future UST backcourt). But given the reputation of Jeron, I won't be surprised if he even gets a starting spot with UST. The position however will be another question all together.
Skills development won't be a problem since UST has a formidable program that resulted in a Jervy Cruz and a Karim Abdul to name a few.
If Jeron decides to go to UST, he will be his brother's back up for two years and will be juggling minutes with Tata and Jeric at the 2 spot and Ferrer at the 3 spot. But the prospect of joining a Final 4 team is pretty good.
If he goes to DLSU, he will be shuffling minutes with virtually the whole roster since their team is mostly guard-laden. Plus, DLSU is a losing team. No good player wants to play in a losing team.
If he goes to Ateneo, he may well be Kiefer's or Buenafe's back up. At a height of 6'2'', he can play the 3 spot with Kirk Long out. But a returning Buenafe will most likely man that starting position. But the good thing here is that Jeron might become a very good option for Black when his opponents go zone. Ateneo has a deep lack for perimeter shooting. Jeron will be very useful for Norman Black in that regards and you will see an improvement in his defensive abilities if he plays for Ateneo.
Ok yung observation mo of ADMU's lack of outside shooting. Well they don't need one because they have a 7' center to shoot some high percentage shots.
Magiging masarap panoorin ang UST next year hopefully with consistent shooting from Tata and the two Jerics, perimeter scoring ni Jeron, and occasional 3 pointers from Ferrer and Camus. That would open up Abdul or Pe to score inside.
