UST rules UAAP. So? How relevant is it to Filipinos let alone to most schools?

Although it doesn't matter for other Filipinos (who were not part of the schools currently in the league), I guess it matters to those who became or presently part of these universities.
It's a pride to be. Siguro hindi lang napapansin masyado dahil 13 years straight na ang UST.
[Off topic na nga]

On the topic: I believe it will be Ateneo vs. UST for '75.
Ateneo - still a powerhouse team (Salva, Slaughter, Ravena, Golla, Gonzaga). Will not be an easy year for them to defend the crown and carve their 5-peat championship. Expect other teams (NU, UST) to be more fierce to win their games against a Supremacy in Basketball. They lost Monfort, a really good Free throw line shooter (which Ateneo has an edge, especially that Monfort is a reliable assistant). But I guess they will be eager to defend their title.
UST (Abdul, Camus, Afuang/Ferrer, Fortuna, Teng). If the younger Teng will be playing for the Tigers, much better. They got the good deep bench, Bautista and Mariano will also be back. Not to mention other players like Vigil, Lao, Sheriff and Robin Tan. Outside shooting (which the Tigers are good at) will be fortified with the tirumvirate of Bautista, Teng and Fortuna. Rebound + Outside shooting = MONSTER
Good year for the Tigers to snare the title after 5 years (and not by a Cinderella story).
Adamson will go down because some of their key players won't be playing anymore (Canada, Alvarez, Colina, Lozada). Will Nuyles still play for his 5th year?
For FEU, I think it will not be their year next season. I expect them to be in the Top 4, but the highest would be fourth. They were demoralized and denied twice, masakit talaga 'yon.
As for National University, really a dark horse for the Final 4. They showed enough this season, and they will definitely improve (especially that they will be the host). (MBE, Singh, Rayray, Labing isa, Cabrera)
De La Salle Univeristy - good for 5th/6th. Kahit makuha pa nila si Jeron Teng, I guess as a whole team not a Final 4 dark horse.
That I also have to admit, all seems to point to Ateneo-UST Season 75 Finals' direction.
it'll be ateneo-feu in the finals again next year. ncaa star jumao-as, the younger bringas and anthony hargrove will be coming in next year
Maski ito off topic eh lol. That makes them irrelevant.
Feu mawawala sa f4 tingin ko. Depends on how well yong big men na papalit kay Ramos o Nondou (Sentchu di kaya mag-isa noon).
Ang bubulaga sa atin sa tingin ko ay NU. Judging also how they finished strong (and their Juniors bore fruits already). Yon ay akin lang naman.
This is a done deal.
What more befitting finals can there be other than this?
What a way to celebrate the Diamond Anniversary of the UAAP next year!
![]()
What befits the UAAP Diamond Anniversary is a hard fought finals regardless if it is Ateneo vs. La Salle or otherwise. Most teams will have beefed up for Season 75. I expect nothing less than a spectacular season.
But I like the idea that a founding school is hosting the tournament AND that "they" have built a spanking new arena for the purpose.
Meron bang closer rivalry? Anyone knows about other pairs (not necessarily Admu or Dlsu)? Siguro, meron naman considering that the UAAp had been in existence for more than 50 years before both Admu and Dlsu came over here.
I'll attempt:
Total Admu-Dlsu games from 1986-2011: 67 (32-35);
If you disregard 4-7 games from 2003-2005 when Dlsu used ineligible players, technically Dlsu lost (but not to be added to Ateneo's wins) 7 games, hence, 32-28;
Finals appearances: 17 (Dlsu) - 9 (Admu);
Final 4 appearances: 13 (Admu) - 15 (Dlsu);
Titles: 7 (admu) - 7 (Dlsu, 2 were stripped off);
NB since 2005 has won 12-3 (2 disregarded in 2005) against Dlsu;
Franz (1998-2008) won 12 (7 were forfeited) of 36 meetings with Admu;
Dlsu streak on Admu: 1990-1993 (7 games, 8th game won by Admu, preventing a 4 year shut out so 7-1 in 4 years);
Admu streak on Dlsu; 2008-2010 (6 games, 7th game won by Dlsu but lost 8th-10th until 2011, so 9-1 in 4 years);
Ateneo has won 12 of the last 15 meetings against Dlsu since after Dlsu's suspension in 2006 when supposedly they have fixed their academic requirements as far as recruitment is concerned.
Bold Verdict: Dlsu isn't due to win against Admu until 2014 (by then Admu would have streaked to 7 straight wins and maybe even 6 peats^^).
If a school is going to break Ateneo's rampaging peats, it's not going to be La Salle for sure. Contrast this when Admu started joining the elite final 4 in Joe Lipa's tenure (1999-2001). In each year and season, Admu won at least a game against Dlsu, almost getting blanked yeah in 2001 when they met 4 times. But Admu won game 2 in the finals then. So that 2002 'upset' of Dlsu's potential 5-peat was due and expected in a way. Dlsu was blanked in 2008, both in the elims and finals.
But where has Dlsu been in the past 3 seasons?It's really hard to think they'd leapfrog over Feu, Ust, and even Nu and Adu by next year. Unless...
they pull off another 'milagro' (read: eligibility? anyone
) to circumvent their already waning recruitment and/or fast track their players' development which has all been but sorely in need of improvement.
i agree that feu lacks teamwork, especially on offense. however, the same can be said about ust. in fact, feu averaged more assists last season than ust. (http://chinoyhoopsfan.blogspot.com/p/uaap-stats.html) furthermore, aside from fortuna and teng, i can't see any other reliable scorer for them. i'd like to see them back in the finals again next season. however, unless the other players develop better offensive skills, i can't see that happening.
History won't repeat itself next season.
You know why?
Ateneo did indeed stopped DLSU's quest for a five peat in 2002. But, prior to that year, Ateneo also faced DLSU in the finals but lost.
Yes, Ateneo will be seeking their very own five peat next season but the difference here is that Ateneo got their four peat against FEU, not DLSU. If only Ateneo won the season 74 championship against DLSU, then history may repeat itself next year with DLSU stopping Ateneo.
