Success begets success. Ever since Norman Black took over, we've never been short of competent big men. You think that's about to change?
And you're conveniently forgetting last year's championship team, which didn't feature a dominant big. We still ended up destroying a more talented FEU squad in the Finals.
But please, if you think that underestimating a FOUR-TIME DEFENDING CHAMP is a good idea, then go right ahead.![]()
Kung nagkataon 9-5 after elims at sure 3rd spot pa.
1. ADMU-With or without Slaughter, they still have dangerous players in Salva, Ravena, and the returning Buenafe. Tiongson also showed flashes of brilliance in his brief finals appearance as well as Erram. Plus, almost everyone has championship experience. They have a winning culture.
2. FEU-They still have veterans in the team. RR is still as dangerous as ever. Tolomia will improve as well as Escoto, Bringas, and Cruz. They have a winning culture and that's very important to a team. But they should watch out for Terrence Romeo.
3. UST-Their core is still intact (which includes Pido unfortunately). Abdul will just keep on improving. Teng and Fortuna might learn how to take better shots but they have been improving steadily year after year. Kevin Ferrer is a talented player who carry UST in years to come.
4. AdU-They still have an amazing player in Alex Nuyles. Though they lost Lozada and Colina, Cabrera and Camson have proven to be able to carry out what these guys left. They will be having problems with the PG position since both their point guards Canada and Alvarez will be graduating. It will be difficult to put an inexperienced rookie at that spot.
5. NU-As I stated before, I am not buying into NU being in the final four. They don't have proven veterans. They are still too inexperienced to get to the next level even with talented players. NU has a losing culture and tradition. It's very difficult to win with that in the back of their minds. Lastly, they have a very small fanbase.
6. DLSU-They have good players but the injection of a new coach and a new system will be very difficult to handle. More bad news is that Ytturi will still be their big man coach. That sucks for AVO and Torres who have shown to have talent.
7. UP-They have veteran players in Silungan, Manuel, Gamboa, and Montecastro. They just need to be steady on the defensive end to prevent them from falling into last place.
8. UE-Very bad recruitment. Most of their players are unknown. The only player left for them who has shown flashes of brilliance is Jamie Noble.
Sukob na!
^To add to that, just because a team has a tall center doesn't mean they can win. If there's a will, then there's a way.
See: University of Cebu vs Ateneo de Manila's PCCL match. UC's lineup is pretty decent, plus they had a (or so they say) much more skilled center that goes by the name Junmar Fajardo.

I mean kung pang 5th or 6th kayo ang season 74 sainyo e FAILURE.
I guess the gokongweis are 'branching out.' 10 years ago, jesuit-educated lance (xavier school), together with top gokongwei confidant, fmr BSP gov. gabby singson (ateneo alum), convinced his father john to donate a sizeable endowment that eventually created ateneo's JGSOM.
Just this year, the gokongweis again donated to patriarch john's alma mater, DLSU, in celebration of the school's centennial. This time in the field of engineering.
Perhaps UP-educated robina felt it was time to give back to her alma mater. Kahit ba sa basketball lang![]()
At least we all now know that money really talksThe thickness of your wallet can really buy talent for the UAAP.
So it seems there's no big corporation or rich businessman backing up UST and still they got into the final four? Even better than Henry Sy-backed NU?
![]()
It does. The thickness of your wallet can determine whether you can eat a cheeseburger or a Big Mac.
Why is it that in spite of Ateneo getting the four peat this year, some people are still scared of Camus? Well they should be because he's playing next season![]()
For the love of God, let him play if breaking the rules will satisfy you.
The same way Slaughter was allowed to play in spite of his ineligibility.
