Too early to tell. But definitely Ateneo will be having a hard time next year in getting into the finals. Moreover, it will be even harder for them to go into the final four if Slaughter decides to go pro.

By the way there is speculation that coach Chot Reyes will head the national team and most likely bestowing the coaching chores of TNT to Black since Toroman might not coach for us but will remain as a consultant. If that is the case, there would be a vacuum in the head coaching job at Ateneo.

Adamson will be on rebuilding mode this year so I don't see them going higher than a 3rd place finish.

Ateneo will get our ONE BIG FIVE.

De La Salle will once again not make it to the Final four.

FEU will lose some players to graduation but they will once again play a guard-oriented offense, something that Ateneo and UST will just toy with.

National University can make it if they learn how to play the team game.

University of the East can finish better since I heard they will be beefing up their line-up with an Iranian, and they do have a good coach so they might play the spoilers role next season.

University of the Philippines will still remain lost. I don't know really what to say but they will again finish last.

University of Sto. Tomas will be Ateneo's toughest competitor because this year they had a fairly young team and still gave FEU and Adamson a run for their money. Abdul can only get better.

I don't think MVP will remove Black from Ateneo and start a new system especially if it's a champion system that produced four UAAP trophies in a row. MVP knows better than that. He's also addicted to winning.

Coach Chot won't coach the National Team since, no offense meant to fellow Atenean, he is such a talker. All you need to do is follow him on Twitter and you'll do good in scouting reports. He doesn't have apt experience to lead Gilas to even greater heights

Those are unfounded speculations. The Buzz lang kumbaga.

LOL why? Buenafe will be coming back next year, his coming outweighs the departure of Long and Monfort. Not only that, Von Pesumal and Capacio should be getting some burn next year as well. Slaughter leaving could end up being a hit, but with Chua and Erram still there I don't see it as that big a deal.

And lastly, to those who asked why Greg is not part of the Gilas in Wuhan, let me remind you that Greg transferred to Ateneo to develop big man skills from arguably the best bigs coach in the country.

Yes it's still for flag and country.

Quoting MVP, “We’ll look at possible names for our cadet team from the collegiate. Obviously, (Greg) Slaughter is there to form part of the team,” said Pangilinan.

Yes his stint in Ateneo can only make Gilas better-off.

DLSU actually has very good players in their roster that's why I was surprised they weren't successful this year considering also a Pumaren is at the helm.

Notable players are Torres, Marata, Van Opstal, Tampus, Paredes, Mendoza, Dela Paz, Vosotros and even Revilla.

that's because the Pumaren system does not work in today's basketball anymore. the full court press is now easily broken by other teams, especially by your team and Adamson. the Pumaren system also hindered the further growth and development of our Archers both as a team and as individual players unlike your team, Adamson and FEU.

If for anything, we will one again have unpredictable offense.

The biggest loss would probably be Kirk but looks like Tonino is groomed to be a lockdown defender with all his peskiness.

Monfort will be replaced by Tiongson.

Again, for those people who won't understand until now, the only reason for Ateneo getting Slaughter is for him to play in the UAAP. What else would that reason be? Slaughter was virtually untouchable at UV. How did they even manage to get him?

If it were because of Gilas, then he should've been with them in Wuhan, or better yet he shouldn't have been playing this season in the UAAP in order for him to practice and play for the flag. But sadly, Ateneo chose to have him stay for the collegiate games. Yes, it's still school first before flag.

Do you think Slaughter could have made any difference in Wuhan when Marcus Douthit has proven to be effective?

I don't want to get banned because of some people's ______ity.

  14. #34
Of course. Douthit has been playing extended minutes in the tournament. Gilas had only two separate rest days in the whole tournament so basically they're playing almost everyday. Douthit is already 30 FYI. Slaughter would have been a good reliever because he can intimidate inside as well as shoot from the outside, which is needed in international basketball. It's a no-brainer to having two tall players in your roster, especially FIBA Asia.

By the way, if Slaughter would not be playing next year, can Ateneo handle it? If so, this means they could still win this year even if they allowed him to play with Gilas. But the matter of fact is they didn't.

Honestly I still can't believe that some people just don't get it. Maybe they really are that __d

Pangilinan, however, hinted at tapping a local to take over from Toroman even as the SBP chief acknowledged the Serbian mentor’s big contribution in the national team’s big improvement in the Asian meet.

There are speculatiosn that Chot Reyes would be the new national coach with his post at Talk n Text to be inherited by Ateneo coach Norman Black.

I agree with your list except for Van Opstal. True, he has a lot of potential and hopefully will be a good addition to the national team someday. What he has now is strength, athleticism and height.

However, he is still VERY raw. Still needs to work on his FUNDAMENTALS which is sorely lacking. Footwork is awkward and timing is way-off. Attitude needs improvement (acts like a spoiled rich-kid) and composure (especially end-game) has not been tested at the collegiate level.

I do hope DLSU properly develops him so he can contribute to the national team someday.

That's true. In fact Norbert has a better footwork than Van Opstal. Maybe AVO should get some pointers with Abdul's skills coach ahehehe.

I almost forgot Yutien Andrada. He's very underrated but very effective for DLSU but unfortunately went down with an injury. Kahit payatot yan, marunong maglaro yan.

Well to those who hope to beat ADMU not only next season but in the coming seasons..... their best bet is for NB to finally depart the ADMU bench because as I see it the other UAAP teams can continue to predict and hope to beat ADMU but I do not think that will happen anytime soon.

For those who think if Greg leaves ADMU next year it would be more difficult for ADMU to win just look at the third championship and you will see how ADMU is built and how good NB is in making his players adapt and play to their strengths. Golla was the starting center in that team and they didn't have a single player in the mythical team that year and FEU was the essentially the same team we faced even with Pipo and Cawaling in the line up but then again same results.

So I think the best bet will be to take out NB from ADMU and given their record now more and more players would want to play for him and the program but then again not all will be taken in.
