aside form Thailand, it's always been Vietnam.... for the past Sea games ans sumali tayo hindi na talaga tayo nanalo sa Vietnam....

on the other hand, indonesia naman is a little bit on top of us... and siguro of the same level tayo with malaysia and singapore.

Vietnam is a very young team but is emerging to be one of Asia's powerhouses. They actually play like the China team since most of their players are likewise tall. And because of their height, they are more of a blocking team and doesn't have much floor defense.

Team Captain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa is the top player for the team. She can play any position (although normally she plays utility) and I would consider her as Vietnam's best volleyball player given her amazing power and smarts. also have a good combination of open hitters; Nguyen Thi Xuan is a very powerful open hitter while the other one, Do Thi Minh is more of a smart player. Nguyen Thi Xuan has the same type of play as Angeli Tabaquero (as in parehas na parehas!) while Do Thi Minh normally resorts to off the block and off speed shots but given a good set, she can also hit hard. When it comes to middle, they also have some sort of variation as Din Thi Tra Giang and Pham Thi Kim Hue are more of A-quick/B-quick type of players while both Dan Thi Huong Le Thi Ngoc Tuyet are running hitters. Ha Thi Hoa, their setter is also good if their libero Ta Thi Dieu Linh can give good receives. Normally, this team relies so much on their libero in terms of floor defense.

They have a first six like this:
Setter - Ha Thi Hoa (6'1)
    Open 1 - Nguyen Thi Xuan (6'3)
Middle 1 - Din Thi Tra Giang (6'3)
Utility - Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa (6'4)
    Open 2 - Do Thi Minh (6'1)
Middle 2 - Pham Thi Kim Hue (6'4)

Substitutes are likewise good in Dan Thi Huong (6'4) and Le Thi Ngoc Tuyet (6'3) for the middles and Bui Thi Hue for the open spikers position (6'3).

As for Indonesia, hindi ko na kilala mga players nila. Wala na sila Ratiana, Rati, Loma, etc. Puro mga under 21 ata itong mga players na ito but they were able to hire an Italian trainer. And, may tinatago rin sila eh. May 6'3-6'4 Indonesian-Pinoy silang player who grew up here in Manila for 13 years then continued her studies in Italy. She plays in the Italian League pero I don't know lang kung macoconvince ng Indonesia na maglaro siya. It is also through this girl kung bakit sila nagkaroon ng Italian trainer.

Actually what I listed pala was the Vietnam National Team. I forgot na Thong Tin Lien Viet Bank Team pala ang sasali although I think marami rin naman sa players nila ang nasa National Team. Haha.

    Notable Players from Thailand WVT

NOOTSARA -- best setter in preliminary round of 2008 FIVB WGP. she defeated the likes of legendary Fofao (Brazil), Feng Kun (China), Lo Bianco (Italy), Takeshita (Japan)

ONUMA -- WOW!!!!!! this girl hits the ball with tremendous power. her wind up is explosive. she can hit a backrow attack like a a frontrow attack. i think Thailand has a special training in hitting a backrow attack, look at Bualee and Kesinee). She's one of the top 10 attackers in one edition of FIVB WGP alongside YUMILKA RUIZ (CUBA), LOGAN TOM (USA), PICCININI (ITALY), GAMOVA (RUSSIA)

PLEUMJIT -- her middle hit and running hit deadly. i saw her serve facials because she hits it at lightning speed. her serve is one of the deadliest i've seen. i think she once scored 10 points in a row against our very own team just on her serve.

WILAVAN -- her backrow attack is as strong as Onuma's. her frontrow attack is not as powerful but she has excellent off the block attack. she always finds ways to score (ala angela benting)

MALIKA -- all i remember in her is her deadly serve. opponents are troubled receiving her serve.

Dalawang beses ko pa lang nakikita to sa Pinas so far recently, iyong una ay si Dimaculangan setting to Ortiz pero hindi sa right side pumalo si Ortiz but sa may gitna (this attack was blocked) and iyong pangalawa is iyong unang set ni Rubie de Leon ng running hit kay Ford sa VLeague.

The setter will really be the key for Philippines here. I think we have capable attackers naman especially in Daquis and Maizo although I'm not too impressed by our middle blockers - yes, I don't find Balse impressive anymore. If it's Salak fault I don't know, pero somehow parang hindi niya masolid hit ang mga middle spikes ngayon.

The Shakey's invitational is a good platform to make us realize how far away we are from international level of play. Although I think we'll do better than the recent Asian Club Volleyball because we now have a legit libero in Torres and Reyes, unlike before when we saw Soriano and Cruz don the libero's uniform.
True. Sa SVL din napansin ko yan. Pero siguro nga fault ni Tina Salak. Ewan ko rin. But I think Pau Soriano and/or Maika Ortiz should be there. =D

Pleumjit no longer employs jump serve. I didnt see her do that in the recently concluded Grand Prix. Not even once.

Onuma yes. she do jump serve but not as lethal as Pleumjit before.

Its the lightning fast play that separates Thai's from the rest of the pack.

holy mother of batman, wilavan is only 5'7" and onuma 5'6"? O_O major props for being able to keep up internationally. i honestly thought they were as tall as the vietnamese players but i guess that's just what talent can do for you.

  13. #32
sorry jancarlo ha pero I dont think those are the heights of the thai players..you add 2 inches..yun *** totoong height nila..alam ko si pleumjit mas matangkad ng konting konti kay salak and balse...yung setter nila is 5'7 and si onuma is 5'8..I saw them here except for onuma..pero on paper she is 5'8

i doubt rin sa vietnam na ganon ang height nila...sobra silang matatangkad....kindly double check

I'm confused din actually sa height ng Vietnam that they submitted to FIVB parang ang laki nga nila with their players averaging 190-195 cm. Official yan ah. Haha.

As for the Thais, oo nga mali ata ako ng computation by two inches. Haha. Sorry.

Si Wanna (their Libero) na lang ang kulang eh starting 6 na yan ng national team ng Thailand (basing on the lineup posted above).
What I meant was that the two pLayers mentioned are briLLiant attackers having seen them GPing with ateneo but not in the first 6 of thaiLand NT, how much more pa sa kaniLang first six mismo na hopefuLLy wiLL see action in the invitationaL.

Since I already saw Indonesia, I can say that they have three good players in Amalia Fajrina Nabila (6'2), Novia Andriyanti (6'1) and Sari Maya Kurnia Indri (6'1). Among the three, Amalia is the best. Has a very powerful and precise jump serve (almost a sure point) and she is a very hard hitter (can hit anywhere in any position in any set). She can average 20 points a game. They have very good middles who normally do the running attacks and since they are tall, they can easily block opponents.

What Indonesia does din pala is to let their national team carry a sponsor like Garuda. It is the same as what our National Team does when joining Asian Club Tourneys like Shakey's, Accel, etc.

    Suggestion for RP player:

    Setter: Esperanza, Dimaculangan or Hingpit
Open Spiker: Mercado, Cha Cruz, Tabaquero or Bernal
Middle: Alarca, Balse, Din2 Santiago, Marano
Utility: Maizo, Gumabao, Ortiz, Pau Soriano
    Lebero: Reyes, Lasaro or Gohing

malakas naman sila as a team and individually. Plus the fact na kabisado na nila ang galaw ng isat isa. may mga bangko sila na hindi ginagamit dun mga 4... siguro they can fill in na lang MAIZO, ROCES, BAUTISTA and DE LEON

Setter: Salak, Iratay and De Leon
Open Spiker: RAD, M9, Bautista, Bunag
    Middle: Balse, Roces, Cruz
    Utility: Maizo, Mayeth
    Lebero: Reyes

Siguro for the coming VLeague Invitational okay na yang lineup na sinabi ni ElectricLambo, but if we are going to talk long term we should really start banking on younger players.

For long term national team members, ito ang mga naisip ko (12 members lang since iyon ang limit for FIVB matches):

Open: Daquis, Mercado, Cruz (Reserve: Valdez)
Middle: Alarca, Ortiz, Marano (Reserve: Santiago)
    Utility: Maizo, Gumabao (Reserve: Roxas)
    Setter: Dimaculangan, Ferrer (Reserve: Fajardo)
    Libero: Gata, Reyes (Reserve: Lazaro)

    Coach: Ramil de Jesus
Trainer: I suggest huwag European ang trainer dahil ang European brand of Volleyball eh medyo may pagka open-centric at hindi ito magwowork sa atin kasi Europeans are tall. Get an Asian trainer, preferrably Chinese or Japanese kasi mas magwowork ang ganitong style sa atin - mas forte ng Asian Volleyball ang speed at combination attacks. Nasa Asia lang naman ang two of the best setters in the world in Takeshita and Nootsara, so fast plays and combination plays are obviously very Asian.

Sana lang talaga may mag invest sa kanila. First 5 matches niyan sigurado bokya, pero that's how all teams start naman eh. Iyong RP team nga sa Asian Club Volleyball first match sobrang wala talaga pero ang bilis ng progress nila at pag-jell. Iyong mga players above have the height and potential talaga, sana lang magkaroon ng proper and continuous program. Good collegiate players will come and go, but a good program is what is going to raise the standards of Philippine volleyball.
