    Bodybuilding and Strength Training Myths

I'm not sure if we had a thread like this before, since I wasn't able to find anything while searching.

Anyway, the best way to start working out is to know what not to do. This way, we don't need to waste time, money and effort working out the wrong way.

If there was a previous thread about training myths, please merge this with the other. Thanks!

^Ultimate - Depends what kind of gain you are after. Weight loss maybe. But increased explosive and max strength? DEFINITELY. No pain. No gain.

    FACTS:

    1. there's no such thing as lower abs!

    2. abs are muscles that work like any other muscle; you don't need to do hundreds of bicep curls or bench presses to make it ripped...

Myth: not eating breakfast puts you on "starvation mode"
Truth: you have to be literally very low on body fat and burning your internal organs off to get into that "starvation mode"

    Myth: fat makes you fat.
Truth: fats are essential, eating calories more than you
    burn makes you fat.

Myth: The 2 hour protein window after workout
Truth: it is ATLEAST 24 hours.

Myth: obese/fat people have low metabolism
Truth: actually the heavier you are the higher your
    metabolism is

Myth: Carbs are essential in living a healthy life.
Truth: there are essential fats, essential protein (aminos)
but there is no such thing as essential carbohydrates.
you can live a healthy life with no carbs.

Myth: You must always use perfect, textbook form on all exercises.

TruthWhile using good form in the gym is always important, obsessing over perfect form is an entirely different matter. If you are always attempting to perform every exercise using flawless, textbook form, you will actually increase your chances of injury and simultaneously decrease the total amount of muscle stimulation you can achieve.

It’s very important that you always move naturally when you exercise. This could mean adding a very slight sway in your back when you perform bicep curls, or using a tiny bit of body momentum when executing barbell rows. - copy pasta

Myth: Women that lift weights will make them muscly and bulky
Truth: testosterone is too low to gain muscles as much as
    men.

    1. the only way for cardio is treadmill. ..
    2. women can't do squats, bench, rows
    3. if you're small and you lift heavy. . .you can be injured BUT if you are big and you lift big.. it's ok.

    4. women should only use baby dumbbells. . .

madapaka. . . ito mga common kong nakikita sa gym ko. . . henako

a few things that have been annoying me lately

rice is the reason pinoys are getting fat..

    high reps for cuts..

training more often and beating yourself everytime you train will improve your rate of progress

my gf never goes to the gym... now that nag-gain sha ng konting bilbil and she was invited for a free trial sa fitness first, nagpasama na rin siya sa akin...

anyway, the funny thing was that some trainer who was briefing her about fitness fundamentals were telling her a lot of myths, as i sat down with them... eto ang sabi ng trainer:

    - "we'll convert those fats into toned muscle"
    - "let's focus on sit-ups to make your stomach flat, and para matunaw ang fats sa midsection"
    - "don't lift dumbbells muna, it might make your arms big and muscular"

i was thinking, ganito ba lahat ng trainers sa fitness first?

i actually asked him kung nakaka-liit ba talaga ang tiyan pag puro situps lang ang gagawin, when he said yes since kino-contract ng body natin yung midsection and went on with everything that, ironically, what the spot reduction myth was about, i decided that it was actually more entertaining if i would let him go on... dun na nya nabanggit yung iba pang myths hehe
