UAAP and the Imports! Agree or Disagree?

Just read the article of Christian Soler sa inboundpass. He mentioned that half of the collegiate teams had atleast one foreign recruit on their line-up.

Here are for the UAAP teams:
Adamson - Austin Manyara and Ingrid Sewa
FEU - Pipo Noundou and Christian Sentcheu
NU - Emmanuel Mbe and Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
    UST - Karim Abdul
    UP - Alinko Mbah
    ADMU - Norman Black (joke!)
    DLSU - ?
    UE - ?

“There are no rules saying foreigners can’t play in the UAAP. You can’t stop schools (from enlisting them) if they have foreigners enrolled,” said Ateneo de Manila University athletic director Ricky Palou. “If they’re legit students, they can play.”

Now the question is, are these imports recruited from their home country? Or talagang nag-aaral na sila dito? Kasi we cannot disregard the fact na madami na rin namang mga foreign students dito sa bansa. Good indication that our country is progressing onwards to globalization.

    Number of foreign students:

    DLSU - 818 foreign students
    UE - 768 foreign students
UST - 600 foreign students (est.)
Adamson - 200 foreign students (est.)
UP - 200 foreign students (est.)
    NU - 23 foreign students
    FEU - ??

Bobby Ray Parks is not an import. Fil-Am sya

    ADMU has Kirk Long

i think at this point in time, wala nang maniniwala na nagkataon lang na meron nagenroll sa school mo na 6'9 African student na gusto maging pari, its already a given that these people were RECRUITED just to play basketball or kung ano man sport in your University. so whether or not a school has a press release that this and that player only came here to study and just happened to be a behemoth of a man wala na rin maniniwala. in anycase IMO, its perfectly legal, and I in fact encourage it. Having imports -- African, Cameroonian, American, Euro, Korean, Chinese, etc. raises the level of competition and benefits our country in the long run. College players exposed to playing with and against imports, twice their size, with twice their strength and athleticism raises the bar and forces locals to play a lot better, else lose games or even their slots.

in the past, our amateur leagues (collegiate and/or semi-pro) only entertained having pure filipino players, and the few times that a pure foreigner student played, these guys were mediocre or only serviceable at best ex. UE's Omar Ali Liban, UP's Robson Bornancin, Arnold Booker etc. so locals got used to playing with only each other, having more or else the same skill level. so on occasions that we competed internationally -- SEA Games, Asian Games, Jones Cup, etc. our supposed "ALL STAR ALL PBA" team gets massacred since we got used to playing with people our size with our skill level, while China has NBA level players skill and size-wise. The more collegiate teams will recruit bigger and bigger players ensures that our next generation of players will get used to the idea that a Center is not limited to a height of 6'5 and that there are a lot of people out there who are a lot bigger than that. thats the advantage that fil-fors in the PBA had before, and is now being enjoyed to a lesser extent by our current batch of collegiate players due to this sudden influx of Imports in the college ranks.

I don't disagree with the recruitment of foreign student athletes. I disagree with UP's choice of Ifeanyi Mbah. The way he plays, he is such an MBAHrrassment. He does not play like ABDUL at all. Unlike NU fans, they do not feel MBEzzled at all.

Alinko, SEWA na kami sa mga fumbled passes na sana easy lay-up para sa yo. if you don't improve next year, your UAAP career won't be that LONG and UP will SENTCHEU home MANYARA!

I heard a rumor that Sam Ekwe of San Beda came to the Philippines to be a priest. And then nagkataon daw na matangkad at malaki sya kaya nagkaroo ng chance to play for the team.

Totoo ba ito? Can someone enlighten me? Cause it sounds so bulls@!# to me.

But If you guys read what happened to Noundou and Mbe, mahilig daw talaga sila mag basketball and they really want to play for amateur league. Nag-google lang daw sila. Noundou first went to Bangkok pero di naman daw sikat basketball dun.

    Not sure of Manyara's kwento.

MBE played for EAC before shopping around in the UAAP for the highest bidder for his services. He offered his mercenary gig to UST and UE. UE Team management decline because the asking price is too much.At the end of his shopping for a team his journey stop at NU Bulldogs wherein he got what he want.

In conclusion MBE failed to bring NU to the F4 even with BRP playing for the team. So the money invested in the NU Bulldogs can't buy a seat in the F4

That's fair enough I guess.

Pero dapat may extenal organization na nagmomonitor how these players (whether import or local) perform in their classes.

Obviously based on the list provided by the TS he is referring to Foreigners playing in the UAAP. He mistakenly made the assumption that BRP is a foreigner.

If your idea of import is those brought in from abroad then might as well include the likes of Norbert Torres, Mike Silungan and even Chris Camus since they "brought in from abroad" having studied HS in overseas.

And as far as i know ADMU has players in-waiting that are "brought in from abroad"

^If you're referring to our guard who will debut on Season 76, he's Fil-Am.

  17. #17
i don't care as long as pumapasok sila sa sa klase at hindi lang talaga basketball ang ginagawa nila.

Intel Core 2 Duo, released by the United States but manufactured in the Philippines, local? or stateside?

I think, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. is still considered as an import.

Booby Parks is NOT an import. His mom is Filipino.

But is he a Filipino by nationality? I don't think so.
