^Not a perfect place but quality of life is much better. . .and you could see where your tax payments are going.

^ohhh.. swerte pala ng mga pinsan ko. during their vacations, ayaw na rin nila bumalik ng Philippines. Kasi naman mga airport natin, puro corrupt din. hay...

    ^Where sila in Canada?
I think the good things we miss in the Philippines are:
    - the fiestas and bonding moments with families and friends (kaya ang mga Pinoy kapag nag-get together dito may mga videoke saka sisig, lechon, and the like)
    - a more solemn celebration of the Holy Week and the Christmas Holidays, and even the All Saints and All Souls Day. Very commercialized ang Christmas, saka they place more emphasis on Haloween than in praying for departed relatives
    - bonding with neighbors. . .dito even kids have playtime skeds with friends. .

Ganaremos!!!
ha ha you must live in vancouver kasi ultimo dishwasher or nagtatrabaho sa kitchen kailangan ng certification. tawag nga nila sa vancouver and the rest of british columbia (where vancouver is) is the land of certification because almost everything requires certification. a way for their schools to do business. you will see doctors, lawyers, scientists who made the mistake of going to vancouver working as taxi drivers, janitors etc.

tapos, iyong mga highly educated dito have to lie in their resumes so that ma-hire sila for the only kinds of jobs available to new immigrants. kung hindi, lalabas silang overqualifed.

Also, its sad that highly educated Pinoys go there and end up serving in a fast food chain. Oh phils my phils what's happened to you?
I agree with you about Vancouver. I observed the same things that you have. I regret not doing my research properly and wasting several years in Vancouver. Fortunately, I now live in Toronto.

To those Filipinos who know very little about Canada, most of the big business establishments in Vancouver are just branches of the big Toronto companies. All of the major Canadian banks (Royal Bank,Scotia,TD,CIBC) are headquartered in Toronto, which is the financial and commercial center of Canada.

Vancouver is a wonderful place. Mountains everywhere, fresh air, nice and disciplined people, great government services. I've been almost 15 months here, still struggling, After just two months in Canada, I found a high paying temp clerical job through a friend's referral. I thought I would not go through what immigrants went through - to do survival jobs. I thought I would be absorbed by the company, but lo and behold, my contract with the hiring agency prohibits that within one year. I worked there for 6 months and lived good. When my contract was finished, I wasn't worried because I felt I already had Canadian experience. I'm now 7 months jobless. 7 months I did nothing but send out resumes and availed of job search help done by NGOs funded by the government. 7 months. NOT ONE FUCKING INTERVIEW. I'm a CPA with less than 2 decades of experience, with a canadian equivalent of CGA level 4. I already rearranged my darn resume every which way I can. Still nothing. It's good that I received EI for 6 months. I'm still receiving Child Tax Benefits, Quarterly GST/GST/Environmental Tax refund, and I'm waiting for BC Housing rental subsidy. Next week I'll start getting our groceries at the Food Bank for free.

I worked as a milkman's assistant carrying crates of milk. I thought I'd die of exhaustion. Real back breaking work. I quit after 4 days. Next week I'll start training at Tim Hortons.

With that I'll still pursue my CGA studies while working. It's home study so there'll be less pressure. If I had more money now, I'd move to Alberta or Toronto to try my luck. I know I'll still find the job I want with the help of my network. Networking is important.

Honestly, I feel dejected, but hope is still there. Most newbies go through this phase, I just tell myself.

Ok tumira sa Canada, yes I agree alam mo kung saan nappunta ang tax mo. Prices for gadgets here and other stuff are affordable. Keri ng sweldo mo, kahit minimum. I am a health care aide in Winnipeg for now, just waiting for my CCA sched. Then level2 na bridging for nurses. You won't miss Pinas that much, kasi ang daming Pinoys dito. Although I really miss my Pinoy friends back in the PI. Well anyways, it's a good country to consider if you want to migrate and all that. I love it here and I can see myself still here 50 years from now. hehe =)

Provincial nominee with my family. Bridging program is actually free, and yes I am a Registered Nurse in PI. Guys don't believe to those people who are saying na don't take the board anymore because they are not going to give you any credits etc. blabla. CRNM will ask you to go back to PI and pass your exam in order for you to apply as a nurse here. You need to be a board passer.

vancouver has the highest cost of living in canada and the lowest minimum wage (and believe you me, new immigrants will care about what the minimum wage is because at the begining the only jobs you will get are minimum wage jobs, unless you are in health care).

the only thing going for vancouver is the weather (the best in canada) and the scenery (but no one migrates for the scenery, right?) if you want warm weather. than go to Austrailia. job prospects are better, the health, education, welfare benefits are the same as Canada, and it's closer to the Philippines.

if you want Canada, toronto and alberta are tops!
