i guess this is not the first time that a player from a non-Final Four men's basketball team was named as Season MVP. in 2007, Sam Marata, then a UPIS Junior Maroon, was named as Season MVP despite the fact that UPIS was not part of the Final Four and that he was not even a part of the Mythical Five.

however, the naming of Parks as Season MVP sends a dangerous message to the UAAP. okay lang pala na maging ball hog kung yun pala ang magiging paraan para maging Season MVP ka.

    Totoo naman eh.

I hate Slaughter, pero I'd rather choose him over a player who can't even bring his team to the Final Four. (And yeah, Greg's a good player)

    Screw the system.

bottomline is for a team sport nobody will really remember who the MVP is this 74th season... it's always the team who won the championship that will be remembered and the players who made it happen!

try ko lang and guys don't use google, wiki, etc. ha.... who can remember the MVP (season MVP and not finals MVP) in season 64?

Unless u know the teams involved then.

Try ko rin i-guess, I didn't google promise, 10 seasons ago, 10 years ago, 2001, the teams involved were Admu and Dlsu. 4-peat (not forfeit ok, lol) of Dlsu. Alvrarez had back to back before Enrico got his on their championship year. So Rich Alvarez.

But I get your point and it's a valid point. If someone outside of top 4, heck even the finals, gets the mvp, it won't be long before you have to resort to googling for the record to be able to identify the mvp.

    Did I get it?

I even thought Nico Salva has an inside track on the MVP plum ahead of his teammates Ravena and Slaughter. In most Ateneo games, Salva had the more stellar performances than his 2 teammates. Parks got the nod of the UAAP because it's more of a 'where Park goes, so goes NU' this season. Not to mention, Parks is the most athletic of all the MVP aspirants.

i would just like to know your opinion guys, putting aside the definition of ROY according to what the UAAP rule book says.. let's say you're eligible for ROY as long as you're on your first year (again putting aside what the rules says, residency, etc), who would you pick as the best new comer (ROY)?

as for me, i'll go with ray parks jr.. he looks great individually, though yeah i know basketball is a team game and that is where ravena looks good..

so who's your best new comer?

    thanks!

    RR Garcia for MVP

Hands down Ray Parks.. Should be mvp + roy ..

    Rules are rules..

Come to think of it.. How old is he anyway?

Roy criteria dapat age bracket din.. 16 to 19 y/o lang sana... Hehehe

His statistics won him the MVP plum.

pero in fairness sa uaap eh the rules are clear, mvp based on stats eh and para dun sa mga hindi nakakaalam eh iyung bonus SPs for each won game are also considered stats.

Did he really want to got NU for college or was he just bought like the other players?

He said that he has no regret in playing for NU because he did it WHOLE HEARTEDLY.

Why wouldn't he want to play for NU? I know most guys wouldn't agree with me, maybe because of bias or they didn't know NU's rookies next season, but the team is very promising.

NU's got their own arena next season. The school is improving at a really fast pace. And with NU, he can showcase his talent being the best player of the team.

Like any other person applying for college, you've got to enroll where you can benefit the most.

I agree that Garcia is one of the guys who deserve the MVP award. But I disagree that he should have been MVP. My MVP pick was Greg Slaughter followed by Nuyles and Garcia.

The reason why there are a lot of Ateneans dismayed by this is because one of our players deserved the award more than Bobby Ray Parks. Ateneo is the best team in the season because of guys like Slaughter, Ravena, and Salva. And it's also due to the fact that Ateneo players are ahead in terms of statistical points over all the other players whose teams are in the final four. A lot of us didn't know that the UAAP Board still included the lower seeded teams in the MVP race. Hence, Parks won the award which led to our disappointment

MVP = Statistical Points, that's the existing rules and the MVP award goes to BRP

but seriously the UAAP Board should take a look on the revisions of the existing MVP criteria

NU Coach yung nagbabad kay BRP during garbage time hindi ADU Coach

I was thinking, aside from stats, why not include "evaluation by peers", i.e all official players in the line-ups will each cast one vote? Since sila-sila rin ang naglalaro and would be in the best position to evaluate who's really good and who's not, then sila na lang.
