Since Misa Hayase has been kind enough to share with us her expertise in dentistry (I know, I know, you're "just" a dentistry student. That's just fine with us. Since we don't know anything about dentistry anyway, you're still way ahead in this department. ), I think it's only fitting that we give her the proper credit by renaming this thread after her. Thanks for the help, Misa Hayase!

If anyone can think of a catchier title (it has to contain the handle "Misa Hayase", okay?), please post your suggestions.

Ngiiii! Nagulat ako Doc Ira ha! I came back to post a reply for Kal-el (after consulting with my more experienced friends) when I saw the renamed thread.... Lagay mo na lang "student dentist" please!(baka may magsue pa sa akin dito for virtual malpractice!

Uy, mga lurking licensed dentists... post naman kayo. =)

i can't sleep at night and was up the whole night because my 3rd to the last molar was aching so severely that i had to suspend cold water in my mouth to subsidize the pain, after about a minute, my teeth would ache again and i have to suspend water again!!! ****!!! it happened to me twice and the pain was unbearable, i drank ponstan already yet it had very minimal effect.
Judging from your passionate narration, it sounds like "irreversible pulpitis"... parang the infection has involved your pulp such that you can't treat this anymore by just simple "pasta" or filling.
Kasi pag ang involved ay enamel lang, or enamel and dentin (yung mga outer layers protecting the pulp), usually reversible pa, meaning ipa-pa-filling lang, ok na. Pag irreversible na, masakit na masakit (classical yung "I can't sleep at night" feeling) and it's unprovoked, sasakit yan when it wants to and not when, for example, uminom ka lang ng malamig or mainit. Usually ang treatment dito is Root canal filling or extraction. Visit your dentist asap...para mas better ma-asses ng dentist yung condition mo.
I noticed na you said you have braces. If the painful molar is encased in those braces, this will be a cause for concern for your dentist or orthodontist. Kasi pagbinunot yan, shempre magkakaroon nanaman ng space. Pag ni-root canal naman, iba ang behavior ng (dead) root-canaled tooth than a vital one, so movement might be affected.

those teeth have fillings and i think that the pain is coming from inside the teeth, that i should have my fillings be replaced.
Nagrecur yung caries, or yung cavity-causing "infection" malamang from the periphery of your fillings.

o God, i wish it would never happen again, i feel that i'm the only person in the world who has experienced this kind of happening. i'd like to know, has anyone of you felt this way?
    Believe me, di ka nagiisa!

HOW I WISH PEOPLE WOULDN'T HAVE PROBLEMS WITH TEETH!!!
    tnx!

Parang sasalpakan ng tooth-colored substance yung space...imagine mo parang tataba yung width ng tooth mo sa harap, tapos ila-light cure yon, then closed na yung gap.
Thanks for the advice. If I get those laminate veneers or composite restorations you mentioned, sisirain ba yung teeth ko like i-file or anything like that? And, paano yung maintainance nun...is there a possiblity of it getting stained like from drinking tea or coke? Would you know how long it will last before I need to have them re-done or permanent na ba sya?

sorry and dami kong questions. My mom said kasi to just leave it like that kasi daw if iba-bonding daw, sisirain daw yung teeth ko para kumapit yung kung ano man yung ilalagay nila and mahirap din daw kasi its stains easily...mahilig pa naman ako sa iced tea. I hope you can help me...I'm going to the dentist this weekend kasi.

    Thanks!

No prob, melrose girl! If you do get those restorations, the surfaces na lalagyan nung composite would have to be modified. "Sisirain" is a heavy word, hehehe. In a way, yes, parang ifa-file, pero minimal lang naman yon. Lalagyan ng parang bevel yung edges. Needed yung modifications to help the material adhere better, tsaka para hindi halata yung delineation nung tooth enamel and the material.

Regarding the staining, I don't think it stains easily...depende na lang talaga if the person drinks tea and coffee very often. Since mahilig ka sa ice tea, i'd recommend sipping it through a straw para ma miminimize yung contact ng tea sa front teeth mo.

Well, hindi porket malaki yung butas ibig sabihin doomed na siya. Depends on how deep it is too...Baka hindi naman umabot yung cavity sa pulp pero malaki lang yung butas.
Yung 3rd to the last molars....bale that is your FIRST molar... are the first of your permanent teeth to erupt. Bale yung lower first molars muna, tapos yung upper. Age 6 lumalabas yon, so it's been around the longest. Dati siguro nung kid ka you didn't pay much attention to brushing (ako rin, had an extraction, tsaka madami rin akong fillings, kaya di ka ulit nagiisa! ). Tsaka one more thing, I've never met a kid who didn't like candy.
Since those molars have been around the longest, kumbaga it experienced the brunt of your years of "rebellion".
When you go back to your dentist, make sure you have him check whether the rest of your teeth are okay.

Hi! I went to see my dentist last Monday. I got my two front teeth fixed...actually yun ginamit ng dentist ko was the same thing she used para sa filling. I don't know if that's the same as the laminate veneers you suggested.

Anyway, I am very pleased with how it turned out. Thanks!

Last advise: Have your wisdoms taken out by a SURGEON who specializes in teeth extractions. I have had ALL four of my wisdom teeth pulled out. I first one, I had this novice dentist named K_____ G_ pull out my first wisdom...it took her 4 friggiiiin hours. Her associate had to sub her to pull it out, coz it seemed like she couldn't find the last piece (it was divided into 4 pcs). Subsequently, I had my 3 other wisdoms pulled out in one sitting, it took the surgenon all of 1 hour!!!!! Not to sound sexist, but I will...wisdoms have to be pulled out by MALE surgeons...hirap talaga ang female dentists dyan, believe me.
In fairness to female dentists, I also have 4 impacted wisdom teeth one of which is particularly difficult in the sense that it was really deep and was practically touching a nerve. Naturally, this required surgery and bone reduction. I had this extracted by Dr. Cheryl Aguila. It was totally painless and was done in under an hour. I initially had this fear of dentists because I associated them with pain. Thanks to my dentists, Drs. Martin and Sheila Reyes and Dr. Cheryl Aguila, I am bravely having my final wisdom tooth extracted tomorrow and have agreed to finally have long overdue braces installed.

Dr. Misa Hayase is I presume, female too? Don't you agree that she definitely would make a fine dentist?

Problem: May isa akong ngipin na nahati ng dalawa sa gitna. Nakakabit pa rin pareho. Umuuga yung isa. Yung isa nakakapit pa rin. Pano po to? HINDI PA NAMAN sumasakit...

Sorry for the delay in my reply... haven't had internet access for mga 2 weeks na. PLDT really takes a long time para makakabit ng DSL! So anyway...

adonai : I hope by now you've gone to see your dentist...it sounds like your tooth is fractured. How it is fractured, whether horizontally or not, I can't really say...mukhang vertical cut ba pababa? Does it hurt whenever you bite and pressure is put on it? If it's a vertical fracture, the tooth has to be extracted. If it's horizontal, the tooth may be saved.

Mitzel : I'm glad you had a pleasant time with your dental procedure...a lot of people need to know that going to the dentist does not always equal pain. This is why kids (kahit as young as toddler age..basta may sign of teeth na) should be brought to the dentist for check ups to familiarize themselves with the dentist, and not pag sumasakit lang yung ngipin. Because if the latter is done, the kid will most likely be scared of dentists even as he grows up.
Yep, I'm female. I definitely agree that it's not in the gender, but it's not just the skill but the intelligence of the dentist to make the correct diagnosis and plan of treatment to make the treatment successful.
BTW, Dr. Martin Reyes sounds familiar... is he the orthodontist? Tall big guy? Ingat and thanks for the nice words, it is truly inspiring.

    Hi Doc Misa!

Yup, I think that's Dr. Martin Reyes alright and yes, he is an orthodontist. I'm having molar bands installed in a few days. Sakit daw yon? hayyy why I couldn't have been gifted with straight teeth hehe.

More power to you and thanks for offering your advise to us Pexers

My lower left pre-molars has a filling on it but it’s aching …definitely, the problem is inside my tooth which has abscess na daw according to my dentist, she said I have two options either to undergo root canal or extraction. Now, I’m quite confused…which is the best option and of course a bearable one? Is root canal painful? May chances ba na sasakit ulit later on kahit na RCT na? What are the indications or preventions to avoid undergoing such procedure? Sorry for the questions…I’m really getting scared. I need your advice. I’m going back to my dentist on Saturday. Thanks.
