my wishlist for Gilas v 2.0 would be Greg Slaughter, Aldrech Ramos, Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks, RR Garcia & Sudan Daniel. That is apart from Chris Tiu & Marcus Douthit that may vie for FIBA 2013 Asia Championship. A good training ground would be the new SM MOA Arena come 2012.

Per existing FIBA rules, a national team is only allowed 1 Naturalized player in the final lineup. We can't have Marcus and Sudan (if he ever decides to become a naturalized Filipino) in one team at the same time.

    fil am ba si Parks?

    ako dream Gilas 2.0

core - Tiu, Douhtit, Aguilar, Slaughter, Fajardo, Ravena, Garcia, Parks?

dagdag nalang ng iba sa amateur
kulang pinoy sa SF. kung mahihiram nila si Williams and Santos sa team, ayos na ayos. sama mo pa si castro pambutas ng depensa.

    dream lang naman. hahaha

How about the assistant coaching staff? Any thoughts? Who would you like to see for assistant coaches and scouts?

Aside from Ryan Gregorio, they have a very mediocre line of assistants. Surely, there are much more talented prospects in the Philippines aside from Jude and Charles. This is in stark contrast to Ron Jacobs' promising team of scouts that inclued Jong Uichico, Derek Pumaren and Cris Calilan.

Some faces I would like to see are:

Jerry Codinera/Alvin Patrimonio - big man

    Bogs Adornado/Ritchie Ticzon - Shooting

    Elmer Reyes

    Olsen Racela

    Jeff Napa

    Lawrence Tiongson

    Boyet Fernandez

Manny Dandan (proven to be a very good student)

^Agree...

Top pick Casio disappointed over contract: report

MANILA, Philippines – Former Smart Gilas standout JV Casio is apprehensive about the contract offered to him by the Powerade Tigers, the team that made him the number 1 pick in the 2011 PBA Rookie Draft.

According to PBA.ph, Powerade is only offering Casio a 2-year deal.

"We've heard Powerade will only give a new contract after the 3rd year, and it will be based on the performances of the player and the team," Casio's agent, Charlie Dy, told PBA.ph.

Casio's contract situation is in contrast with 2nd over-all pick Paul Lee, who has been signed to a maximum 3-year contract by Rain or Shine. He will be paid the league maximum of P150,000 monthly.

"Parang hindi fair, kumpara sa ibang fellow first round picks ni JV na nabigyan ng tig-ti-three-year contracts," Dy said.

The agent said that he and Casio will meet with the team management Wednesday, but are already considering other options.

Dy revealed that if Casio is indeed offered only a 2-year deal, the star point guard may opt not to sign with Powerade.

"We just have to listen to what they have to say, about their plans for JV and with regards to the team," Dy said.

yes he has, but he can still play for the philippine national team for as long as germany grants his release. though he is really good, i don't think he'll make the german men's team. sa pinas ka na lang boy

    A REAL National Basketball Program...

the smart gilas pilipinas basketball team just ended the fiba-asia tournament 2011 with a sorry note... they just lost to the korean team... however, even though the team lost, many of us spectators still feel proud with what they've achieved... we commend the team for their sacrifices, their gallant stand and their amazing efforts... its so sad to see though that yet again, we failed to achieve our goals and that is to make it to the olympics... with that said, i would like again to congratulate the gilas team for doing their best... thanks for making us proud...

now that our dream to enter the london olympiad has been doused with a cold water, i would like to know what's next. will the gilas program be retained? will toroman still coach that team? how is philippine basketball in its entirety react to yet another loss in its bid to redemption?

first off, i believe that for us to really have a REAL national basketball program, the big companies should give its entire resource to make this work... like right now... smart communications seemed to be the only one who helps the program... can't san miguel corporation help them??? how about the pba??? can't they lend some of their other superstars to help the national cause??? gabe norwood would have been a big help... l.a. tenorio would have been a big help... joe devance, mercado, baclao and a few others could have helped...

and what's with the name, smart gilas?? i mean, yeah, we appreciate what mvp has done for the team, but wouldn't it be more appropriate if we revert back to the rp team... we've had more success with that name than we had since we started putting corporate names on our team's jersey... if we want to be nationalistic about it, let's use Koponang Pilipinas...

i know filipinos love basketball... we all adore the sport... it would mean a lot to go back to the olympics... but you see, one company can't have the sole responsibility in this endeavor... everyone who cares for the basketball program should help... imagine if san miguel corporation and mvp's companies can help each other, as well as the uytengsu's, the ayala's, the sy's, plus the government... forget about corporate pride... just for once, let filipino pride be on top of your priorities... its all for our country... hope we can make this a reality...
