Manalo, matalo...gulpi kayo!
@pampi - I'm not pro or anti adaptation anyway, I'm just pointing out eerily similar tunes since this is what seems to be the reason behind the threads existence.
why? thread title is chants and cheers and not uerd cheers blah blah.
Robert Stanley Weir wrote in 1908 another English version, one that is not a literal translation of the French. Weir's lyrics have been revised twice, taking their present form in 1980, but the French lyrics remain unaltered. "O Canada" had served as a de facto national anthem since 1939, officially becoming Canada's national anthem in 1980, when the Act of Parliament making it so received Royal Assent and became effective on July 1 as part of that year's Dominion Day celebrations.
hahaha, joke lang... may friends ako from la salle, baka patayin na nila ako, hahaha...
but seriously, alam ko may issues din ang ateneo sa cheers ng la salle, but i'd rather not get into that... too much history (150years for ateneo and 100 for la salle) to look into, and honestly i don't care anymore... i think the ateneo cheering tradition is a brand of it's own... it doesn't matter kung kopya o hindi, it's the recall that matters... kahit original man sa ateneo ang animo, or hindi, sa la salle na siya ngayon kasi sa kanila na nakilala... though old timers would still lay claim to it...
though sayang yung ibang songs, cheers and chants ng ateneo, hindi ko na naririnig (artillery yell, for example, which is one of my personal favorites)...
anyway, i guess ang importante is that the crowd goes all out with the cheers, at may ownership sila sa sinisigaw nila, yung honestly naniniwala silang ang cheer na yun ay may branding na ng school nila...
Shoot/Get that ball Ol de la salle!
Defense! de la salle! defense!
when they entered uaap after afaik 5-6 years (ncaa -> uaap because of letran- la salle incident) of no basketball they changed the way they used to cheer (traditional rektikano, singing victory songs) and to adapt to the more productive style of cheering (from LSC to DLSU and less-to-memorize cheers like go la salle and dlsu animo la salle).
ateneo also has their own "defense" cheer but not used as often as get that ball because the latter is a more known cheer for the blues.
their offense has always been "FIGHT", nothing else.
although that "red tribe" wanted changes for their cheering system, hindi maitatanggi na nanggaya sila and changes must be done. kudos for their efforts and sana naman other squads could also do it asap (yes, hindi lang po sila ang nangopya)
ateneo cheering started 1920
la salle cheering started 1926
almost 7 decades ahead before any cheering squad started to be formally recognized and/or organized (feu,up,ust,nu,ue,adu)
mga walang cheering history huwag kayong magmarunong, napaghahalataan kayo eh
ADMU - Lakas nung GET THAT BALL astig ganda nun...
UST-Oh Depensa astig din nun...
FEU- Lets go Lets go tamarraw Lets go...
ADU- A-d-a-m-s-o-n spell adamson
La Salle- Animo La Salle
UP- Shoot that Ball
Talagang ginawan pa ng sariling thread to a.
As of this season, I could assure everybody na wala ng GET THAT BALL at GO UE sa listahan at mga pinapractice na cheers ng UE.
