Mga mga kakilala kong kaklase ko na Nurse na ngayon sa PGH (BS Nursing kami sa UP Manila) tas ngayon nagte-take ng BA in Multimedia studies sa UP Open Univ. Kung gusto mo talaga kumambyo eh di go.

    @TS

Congratulations! You should be proud of yourself!

Ang lamang mo lang naman pag sa UP ka ay you exit the premises of the school as a graduate who is armed of "experience" that you cannot get from any other private/public institution. Plus, you get the chance to be taught by "big" people (famous economists, mathematicians, physicians, scientists). Name it and UP has it.

Pero, really, UP is just a "place" to help you grow. And you have proven to yourself that you CAN, even without UP. So be proud.

(based on my experience)

Super late reply ako haha. Si Mam Borja ang Adviser ko sa Thesis, si Mam Tolabing sa Program. Haha.

At mamatay na ako, *** pa rin akong thesis topic. Gusto ko na grumaduate! Haha. Baka yan pa ika-regret ko. Hahaha.

one of the top graduating class ka nga, hindi naman UP..

madali mag-summa sa ibang schools lalo na sa probinsiya.. kaya if i were you, 6 years ago...

Just want to share some thoughts. It's been like 6 years since I took the UPCAT. I did not pass my first priority course which was BSBAA but passed the BS Mathematics program at the University of the Philippines Diliman. This is the reason why I did not pursue my education at UP, rather, I took up Accountancy in our province. In addition, I was not yet mature enough to be separated from my family and had that fear inside me. Now, I'm a CPA and was even one of the top in the graduating class.

Just want to get your insights. If you were me 6 years ago, what path would you have taken?

    Thanks and Godbless.
Marami naman diyan BSBAA UP grad nga, di naman makapasa sa CPA board, ayun still relying on a piece of yellowed paper, hoping to be accorded deference. Board exams are there to make sure standard ang skills ng bawat profession where ever the student studied. Out there pare-pareho lang tayo.

I share the same thoughts as TS.'

I passed UPCAT with BS Econ as my course. Di ako tumuloy nang UP for the shallow reason that my mom graduated from UP a quarter of a century ago. Besides, Ateneo talaga yung first choice ko (which I also passed). I ended up in a provincial school for the same reason as TS'.

I've been thinking about this as often as I remember that I'm an UPCAT passer. I believe that if I have chosen UP or Ateneo, I might have become more fluent in English, both in writing and in speaking. But I guess I could still improve on it in the future. I just don't know where to begin with. Perhaps, some tutorials are available on the net.

Right now, binabawi ko na lang sa pag-eexcel sa class ang mga bagay na ito, which is one good way of motivating one's self. And I'm ending this post by saying that I've written this for the purpose of "improving my writing skills." LOL

While I agree with your last statement (and your point overall), I also know for a fact that most (if not close to all) UP BS BAA graduates are of a particular quality. Ultimately, success is determined by the individual, not the school.

I applaud the TS for success in college. That is a big deal in itself.

In the same vein, I would also like to give UP BS BAA graduates their due. It's just that the training given by UP CBA (and UP overall) prepares you for an entirely different mindset when you're working. How do I know? I've worked directly with a lot of UP CBA graduates. Individual differences show, but the skillsets and depth of thinking are consistent.

In recent years, the board exam passing percentages are in the high 90's, if not 100%. AFAIK, it's just the first few years of the 2000's where it really plummeted, but not to a totally dismal level (it was still beyond the highest passing percentages of other schools). But being a UP unit, it was definitely disappointing. Even then, some of the people there have already redeemed themselves by being established audit professionals.

So, let's applaud the TS. But equally, let's give a good (if not excellent) program its due.

^Oh well. It's a known fact that a majority (if not all) UP alums are proud to be UP alumni. Let's just choose our words carefully.

Pride is alright, but I know false pride when I see one. I'm proud to graduate from UP, but I don't go around dissing other people for being otherwise, much less a licensed CPA.

I have regrets as well. I kinda feel that the field I chose to study isn't really for me. The first two years was fun and I actually enjoyed learning. But as the major subjects came, I found the lessons totally unappealing, boring, and insanely and unnecessarily difficult. I didn't see the point in studying them. It wasn't what I expected my course to be. I didn't know what I was signing up for when I wrote down the name of my program on my UPCAT form. It's difficult to study something you have little interest in. I just told myself that I would finish my degree just for the sake of finishing it. It also didn't help to learn from our alumni that our course was very under-appreciated in the Philippines, and looking for a good-paying job that actually practices our profession would be difficult.

As my friends from other courses breezed through their semesters, we shed tears and blood to pass. I thought that maybe I made a wrong decision. Maybe I wouldn't have had such a difficult time if I actually liked my course. I just graduated last April, cum laude, and I am not really that happy or proud about it. Now, I'm not so sure of the career that I want to pursue. I plan to take a master's degree abroad, but in a different, although related, field. I am also considering getting a second bachelor's degree abroad. I'm not so sure. If only I had shifted out before it was too late.

Don't get me wrong, my stay in UP was the best five years of my life. The most important lessons UP taught me, I learned outside the classrooms and the laboratories. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything else. I just kind of think that the things that I DID learn in the classrooms aren't really for me. I hope this is just part of a fresh graduate's life drama and soul-searching realizations. I hope this is just a phase. Maybe I'm just overthinking. I dunno. By the way, I'm an engineering graduate.

^I agree, Sir TTJ. For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught.
