The name "Chico Science" was given to those group of kids by the head jolog of the all-star jolog band Slapshock, Jamir Garcia (all hail). I wouldn't be surprised if it was ripped off from another group cause the two bands were never original in the first place.

    It's true, it's true.

I've read a previous interview with Chico Science on Inquirer's "2BU" supplementary mag. The interviewer asked them a bunch of generic questions, which of course includes -- 'where the band got their name from'. One of the members replied (probably the vocalist) saying that they got it from a Latin/Brazilian band being credited at the liner notes of Soulfly's self-titled album. Other band members joined in and said that at least they admit that they steal some stuff, and asserted that their music is original so they don't have to admit anything about accusations of them copying Korn and Limp Bizkit's playing style.

If you don't believe me, and if you're one of those feeble-minded miscreants that slam me for exposing Chico Science, go to Inquirer.net and look for it there.

    Thumbs down sama naman ninyo

kung manlait kayo ng ibang tao akala ninyo kung sino kayong magaling. kaya hindi umuunlad ang music scene natin eh dahil punong puno ng mga taong katulad ninyo na walang ginawa kundi mang hila ng ibang tao pababa.

fine, i come from the same circle of friends with these guys and i maybe biased in my opinions about thier musicality and all that but i really don't appreciate your comments because i feel that they are biased and unsupported.

please support your convictions with good evidence, there is such a thing as an educated criticism you know

Name at least three GOOD reasons why you think Chico Science is talented, aside from you being their "good friend" and maybe you can prove us wrong...but I doubt it.

i think they are good because

    1. they sound good on stage
every time i hear them play live, they seem preserve the dynamics of thier songs. although i have to admit that sometimes i can't hear miggy, the band is still a wall of sound. for me this is important because to sound good on stage and to perform your songs with high fidelity to the studio version requires talent.

    2. i like their work ethic
again because i know these guys, i get to see how they make songs and i think that they are able to make songs because they really work hard on it. even if there comes a point where they seem to run out of ideas and end thier practice, they still do thier homework of trying to come up with ideas with how to patch thier concept song up. and to constantly jam everytime is not easy, at least from where i am coming from.

    3. walang pasikat sa banda nila
whenever they make songs, they focus more on the song itself rather than making pasikat. again they r not exactly virtuoso s in thier line of instrumentation but i i have seen them play thier individual stuff and they are actually good as individuals. and even if they have the ability to make pasikat and all, they dont. instead, they just conceptualize on the song and do audiation because they feel that it is more important to make a Song than to actually display your individual prowess

if not for anything guys i think you should give them props for being one of the first bands to play essentially under the influence of this korn-deftones mania. they (or at least the original lineup) have been playing this rock phenomenon since 1995 when everyone else was listening to silverchair i dont know. And they have earned the respect of other artists from being laughed at and being made the butt of all jokes.

And besides, these are college kids having fun so just let them go.
i won't say anything na, sorry for hassling your opinions and for being an upstart. peace tayo

that's not the point dear. it doesnt matter if they sound good onstage or if theyre really really nice people because the whole concept of Chico Science sucks. along with greyhoundz, slapshock, theyre another one of the Philippines' most pretentious bands. just look at em. theyre so unrealistic about themselves! the lyrics, the skanky hair, the "skater" image... theyre wannabes.

maybe they ARE college kids having fun pretending to be something theyre not (which is fun for everyone every once in awhile) but HELLO! nakakatawa na eh.

i'm not saying their not talented...its what they do with it that really sucks.
oh, and miggy is hopeless, i'm sorry.

That's the problem with most people nowadays, they seem to pay attention more on the bands stage show antics and the mosh pit frenzy rather than a bands musical talent. I don't need theatrics to appreciate a bands music, and I'm sure everyone feels the exact same way. Just make the music full of power, heart, dedication, originality, and flawless texture.

I don't hear that with Chico Science, all I see are a bunch of skateboard posers (one even wears blue contact lenses for gods sake) whose talent with instruments are limited to three chords, and once again: the age-old "clean-to-scream" singing style for that commercial appeal. If I want to listen to noise and annoying voices, I'd watch the "Crocodile Hunter" on the Animal Planet.

    2. i like their work ethic
again because i know these guys, i get to see how they make songs and i think that they are able to make songs because they really work hard on it. even if there comes a point where they seem to run out of ideas and end thier practice, they still do thier homework of trying to come up with ideas with how to patch thier concept song up. and to constantly jam everytime is not easy, at least from where i am coming from.
Yes, their "work ethic" of ripping off numerous bands (ie. Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit) to become successful in the field of music is definitely admirable.

    3. walang pasikat sa banda nila
whenever they make songs, they focus more on the song itself rather than making pasikat. again they r not exactly virtuoso s in thier line of instrumentation but i i have seen them play thier individual stuff and they are actually good as individuals. and even if they have the ability to make pasikat and all, they dont. instead, they just conceptualize on the song and do audiation because they feel that it is more important to make a Song than to actually display your individual prowess
You do realize that Filipinos don't have blue eyes, right? Whatever Miggy-boys reason for wearing those contact lenses are beyond me.

if not for anything guys i think you should give them props for being one of the first bands to play essentially under the influence of this korn-deftones mania. they (or at least the original lineup) have been playing this rock phenomenon since 1995 when everyone else was listening to silverchair i dont know. Sorry, Chico Science doesn't deserve any form of 'props'. If there's anything they deserve, it's an opening spot for the local High School "Battle Of The Bands" contest wherein bands (whose band members doesn't miss an episode of Gimik), rally up and play cover songs all day long.

everyone is entitled to thier own opinion.

i did not say anything about thier antics i was paying attention to thier sound not thier "galaw" or anything like that. i think from all the "galaw" and "frenzy" that they have been doing since HS. medyo nagsawa na ako

they seem preserve the dynamics of thier songs. although i have to admit that sometimes i can't hear miggy, the band is still a wall of sound. for me this is important because to sound good on stage and to perform your songs with high fidelity to the studio version requires talent.
but i rest my case anyway so bahala na kayo

Pare! Hinde umuunlad ang music scene natin dahil sa mga bandang kagaya ng idols mo. Admit it dude! Wala silang sariling style, walang sariling identity and walang original taste.
