maybe...the den of kidnappers and criminals!

land of dog eaters, kidnappers
unstable, corrupt government
around or near manila - dirty, full of pollution & poverty, a place to get cheap sex
some provinces - beautiful scenery, undiscovered treasures especially boracay
some people believe most filipinos still live in nipa huts and don't have electricity
uncivilized society because of riots shown in the news
ruthless and primitive people because of the Abu Sayaff beheadings
but on the contrary, some people think filipinos are friendly and hospitable
candz79, I couldn't agree with you more. Generally, the Philippines sucks. But hey, this "hospitable and friendly" thing is very overrated. I've been to lots of places, and I can say that other nationalities like Peruvians, Bolivians or Costa Ricans are friendlier and even more hospitable than these Filipinos.

but on the contrary, some people think filipinos are friendly and hospitable
hmm...what can i say? Filipinos sometimes do that not out of sincerity of the hospitability given to the other party...but as pakitang tao or plastic...i'm not saying that every Filipino is like that but i have seen lots of these people that are hospitable when they're in front of you...but will happily stab you behind your back!Originally posted by SUX2BU

Kasi nga parang na-stereotype ang Philippines under a negative light.
Why don't we speak of the good things abour country?
Philippines: travel at your own risk (or something to that effect)

Some of my colleges like Nigerian,Chinese, Japanese, Mexicans and Americans know about Marcos, Imelda's shoes, EDSA 1,EDSA 2,3.They heard about snakes everywhere including the two-legged snakes.
But on the other side, other countries also has its own crimes, its own lawlessness. There are also kidnapping, Gang wars, and there are also mentally retarded humans. There are American security guards, Mexican maid, Russian prostitute.
It is not only in the Philippines...
Believe ME..
Country hounded by Power hungry policemen, plunderers, corrupt politicians, politicians involved in trafficking...Oh what do you know...seems like Mr.Ping Lacson fits every category...

Sad to say, our country is perceived very badly by other countries. Our country is perceive as corrupt (government just sucks), dirty and polluted country (what with all the squatters and dirty streets), poor (our economy is going nowhere), dangerous (abu sayyaf, kidnam for ransom gangs, dirty policemen, no law and order) and also a haven for fee for sex trade (especially true when the U.S. bases were still under the americans).
The worst part of it all is that there is no change in sight. The government keeps going back to the same corrupted politicians. A few younger politicians get infected the moment they get in contact with the "old guard", so to speak.
I will always be a pinoy. I'm proud to be a pinoy, but the reality is our country itself is not perceived by others as something to be proud of.![]()
After some reflections on my posts and the other's...i realized that i'm proud to be Filipino...unfortunately, i aint proud of some of my fellow countrymen...

an article from Manila Bulletin...
Tama nga ,we are full of smiles...
A DASH OF SUNSHINE. We have been feeling depressed lately from being bombarded with 'bad news' seemingly from all sides. Such as... the apparent bungling of the military campaign against the abu sayyaf goons, the intramurals in the senate, the Estrada 'plunder' trials, the devalued peso, the Manor hotel fire tragedy... have we seen the worse already?
Then comes this email letter from one happy French woman who simply identifies herself as “Violaine”. The letter, dated Aug. 18, is titled “Thanks Filipino People.” And we are reprinting her letter verbatim:
“My name is Violaine, I am twenty, and I come from France. I have worked in Manila as a volunteer for a French-Filipino association, the Alouette Foundation.
It is now time for me to go back to my country, after six weeks spent in the heart of Malibay, Pasay City. I just wanted to tell Filipino people about this experience, and thank them for all what they taught me.
When I arrived here, I did not have the slightest idea of what I would live. I had a mission: teach computer science to women at the Correctional Institution for Women.
It has been really impressive to discover the reality here, so far from all what we see in France. I lived in a slum. I lived in poverty, with poverty. People around me lived nothing, just a few pesos to cope everyday’s needs. Streets were dirty, noisy, overcrowded and polluted.
However, I felt at home. I knew that after work, when I would come back from the CIW, everybody would be waiting for me, everybody in the street would greet me, and I would get so many smiles that I would feel the richest person on earth.
Here, people know the value of little things. I was so amazed to meet so respectful, honest, kind and full of attentions inhabitants. They are poor, so what? They have family, friends, they love God and God loves them, so...
At the beginning, I could not understand how you did, Filipino people, to be so happy and smiling when life was so hard, when you lived in so poor conditions.
Little by little, I lost my European marks, which grant so much importance to material comfort. You made me realize that the heart of life was not in this comfort, but in daily little happiness. My experience here with you opened my eyes, and I will fly back to France with a huge treasure in m y heart: the secret of authentic human relationship.
Salamat Po for your smiles and your kindness, and please, believe me when I tell you you are much richer than many very rich European men who have forgotten what simplicity meant”
Violaine’s happy experience in the Philippines warms our hearts. The Filipino hospitality has likewise been appreciated by other visitors, including diplomatic spouses (along with the ambassadors themselves) who are always sorry when they have to leave our country. As one ambassador’s wife told us “Only in the Philippines have we felt so welcome and so at home — like one huge family!”
Nakakapagpataba ng puso talaga! Salamat din po to Violaine.

my 2 cents...anyone who lived in the phil for a long time and then migrated abroad will feel how wonderful it is back home. true, maraming masamang nangyayari sa pinas pero sa ibang bansa rin naman e, meron din mga krimen na kahalintulad diba?
work opportunity sucks in the philippines. mahirap tuloy kumita. pero iba pa rin *** mararamdaman mo pag umuuwi ka **. basta iba at masaya...![]()
