JCSEVERO - dude kaya tinawag na murder inc ang letran team during the 50s kasi sobrang lakas nang basketball lineup namin we literaly plowing the teams during the 1950 NCAA season that was banner by Lauro "The Fox" Mumar and Herminio "Togay" Astorga.

    - the jeers and banners were also notable ('luto/basura' from la salle side; 'look who's #1' by those from the blues)

1994 -the pep squad/babble 'incident' during halftime that led to a scuffle at the parking lot after the game

1999 - BJ Manalo. Nuff said!

The derecho la salle cheer was still reverberating back then. During the '94 game, they came out with Popeye and Fido Dido mascots rooting for La Salle and Ateneo respectively.

unless UST recruits another African import(6'9 or taller), expect more of the same when they face Ateneo. and that will happen in front of their huge "homecourt" THOMASIAN crowd.

besides will UST's new gym be one of the venues for UAAP MBT games? i thought most of the games will be played at the MOA Arena with Araneta as an alternative venue.

Still too early for anything to be definite at this time.
Just wishful thinking on my part.

Yep i remember those. Good times! Although medyo baduy pa ang ateneo nun hehe! (no offense)

    A few other notables:

-the losing team's cheering squad was the first to perform in halftime and the first to sing its alma mater song after the game ('88 video). I think the order was reversed beginning the 1990s.

-the cheers were faster. i think this went on til the 90's. LS spelling and fabilioh beats became slower 2000-onwards

-"Hail! Hail! Hail!" and "Win or Lose..!" were not shouted then. I believe the former were exclaimed by lasallians when they first won back-to-back championships ('89-'90) as a show of pride.

On the other hand, the latter ('win or lose') were shouted by ateneans during the 'dark ages.' To remind them why they attended ateneo in the first place! and it definitely it was NOT because of the basketball team (then)

I've been looking for that '88 video for the longest time! Thanks for the link. Now if only somebody would upload that 'historic' 1986 championship win of the UP Maroons, then my earliest experiences of the UAAP would be complete

    OnT:

Yep UAAP would survive. But it won't be as fun esp to joiners and corporate sponsors

Just saw them while browsing you tube. There's even clips of the 1996 DLSU-ADMU 2nd round massacre.

Yeah i know. Still looking for that darn '86 UP video though.

Last aside, i think the '88 game was very historic because it was the 1st time that the two rivals faced-off for the championship not only in the UAAP but since the '76 NCAA season (if i heard the video right)

  13. #173
    Definitely.

There are other 6 schools worthy of the media's attention.

Ang alam ko he's out due to injury. In case nakabalik na, malabo na siyang makahabol. Tignan natin in the future.

They will survive, nag survive nga sila for how many decades bago lumipat lasalle at ateneo noong 6 teams pa lang uaap eh, kung mawala man yung dalawa parang balik lang ulit sa dati.

It will survive, but whether or not it will still be the premier collegiate tournament of the country is a different question.

The UAAP will survive and thrive even without the rivalry as long as basketball remains the country's favorite sport. It's all about how the UAAP "sells" the next big rivalry to the public.

When the Lakers - Celtics rivalry subsided in the early 90's, the NBA not only survived, it became a global phenomenon thanks to a guy named Michael Jeffrey Jordan.
