No such restriction. So long as you meet the PBA's requirements as to age (22yo), etc., then you can apply for the draft.

Pong Escobal was still eligible to play one more year for SBC when he applied for the draft. At that time, he already earned his degree and won 3 championships in the NCAA so he (rightfully) decided to move on.

^I'm quite certain that it was Pong's last season when he joined the draft. Remember that he was a transferee from Holy Cross of Davao. hence, 2 years was deducted to his playing years that's why he only played for three seasons with San Beda.

A player of course can join the draft anytime he wished in accordance to the PBA rules, but Collegiate Leagues has it's own rules that prohibits this and that. PBA came up with a proposal to both NCAA and UAAP to allow their senior players to join the draft while still playing college. the condition is that the PBA Team that drafted an active collegiate player has the rights to sign the player but the team cannot sign him yet and the player cannot join the team nor the PBA team to demand him to join their practices right after the draft. The drafted collegiate player will only be allowed to join the team after the first semester of the school year since basketball is a 1st sem sport. The proposal of PBA was approved by NCAA but the idea was rejected by UAAP.

I'm not sure though if it was included in the agreement that an NCAA player can join the PBA draft and allowed to play for his college team at the same time "as long as" the player is in his last season and should seek permission first to NCAA MANCOM.

If Abueva(having 2 more playing years left in him) is allowed to join the PBA draft then I stand corrected, but until then I'll stick to my understanding.

By the way is Sudan Daniel still eligible to play next season?

I remember correctly, a member of the coaching staff mentioned that Pong played in a league which was considered a "developmental league" only - akin to the FMC - such that his playing years in Davao were not counted insofar as his NCAA eligibility was concerned.

    He is no longer eligible.

Mar Villahermosa is also in his last year of eligibility.

a hearsay from a coaching staff doesn't convince me much. I'm not saying that it's not true though. I'm not just that convince. Like I said, if Abueva plans to apply for the draft and was allowed by NCAA then I'll say that I stand corrected.

Why is our american friend Sudan Daniel can no longer play next season? This year won't count in as his playing year because he was never included in the lineup. Is it because of his age?

    1 more year big guy!

How about si idol Dysam ng Perpetual.. este Letran?

^^Last Year na ni Dysam. Kasabayan(Kasikuhan) pa ito ni Hermida nung naglalaro pa sa perpetual c Dysam. I just find it funny that when Dysam Transfered to Letran, Perpetual never complained but when Marlon Gomez transfered from Letran to Perpetual biglang protesta ang Letran. Don't take my statements seriously, I don't know the whole story..

I'll just give you another name - James Sena.

Just check with Mr. Google his playing years, age at the time of the draft, etc., so you can convince yourself that NCAA players can come out early and apply for the draft.

  11. #31

Cutoff this year is 1987. 1988 daw si Abueva, so, hanggang next year pwede pa sya sa NCAA.

***Nakalineup po si Sudan Daniel sa Red Lions this year (http://www.ncaa.org.ph/season87/bb_sbc.php)(wala si Sudan Daniel sa team photo dahil ng araw na kunan ang picture na yan, yun din ang araw ng operation nya for his acl injury) at 1987 po ang birthyear nya. kaya nilineup or not, last season na nya ngayong taon.

**Si Nuilan po ang nanggaling ng Letran, hindi si Gomez(si Gomez, originally from PCU, napunta JRU then Perpetual),. si Nuilan, from FEU, to Letran, then to Perpetual po.

  13. #33
Si Dysam ata pwede pang maglaro next year. Di ba 24y/o ang age limit tapos 5 playing years ang max? Kasi 1989 ang YOB niya tapos pang 4th yr. niya ata ngayon sa NC.

  14. #34
Dysam is already in his third year as a knight, if you add up his two seasons with Perpetual this will be his 5th and Final season in the NCAA.

McCoy of CSB is on his final season as well! Looks like this may be the final year for the remnant transferees from the PCU Dolphins.

sorry, but ian dela paz and jan tan (how many years do these guys have left anyway?) are at best backups at power forward and center.
    OT discussion na tayo!

Fikowsky, Bartolo, and Tolentino are suiting up next season since they need to stay in CSB for another schoolyear as transferees.
