Anime Comparison Thread

This thread is yet another way for me to discover some new anime series. You can compare 1 series to another for as long as you can pull it off. You can even compare 1 series to multiple series of the same type. Format for comparison is up to you.

This may also not be limited only to a series comparison. You can pull off an anime character comparison, say Luffy (One Piece) VS Goku (Dragon Ball) in an eat-all-you-can contest. Who wins?
Why him and not the other, something like that…

Guys, let’s “TRY” to be objective and avoid bashing other series and/or characters.

Here’s mine (based on the two most recent series I’ve watched):

Tohai Densetu Akagi (TDA) VS Legendary Gambler Tetsuya (LGT)
SIMILARITIES:
Theme: Both Mahjong-inspired
Setting: Post-World War 2, where Japan is in a recovery stage post-war

DIFFERENCES:
Protagonist: Akagi is on a GOD mode level while Kid Tetsu is on a normal human genius mode
Character Development: There was very minimal in TDA (IMO only in the first few episodes) while all throughout LGT’s series, development of Kid Tetsu is shown
Side Stories: TDA is rival-intensive while LGT is comrade-intensive
Violence: Death in gambling is more depicted in TDA as opposed to LGT wherein there were only some occasional beatings are shown
Psychological Thriller/Suspense: TDA has more of this element as compared to LGT, this may be due on how the mahjong game is being shown on each episode

OVERALL: TDA < LGT

Since I'm currently watching Gosick, I'm gonna compare its characters to other Detective series characters:

Kujo (Gosick) vs Kudo (Detective Conan) for the Ultimate Case Magnet Title

Grevil de Blois (Gosick) vs Mouri Kogoro (Detective Conan) vs Yako (Majin Tantei) for the Ultimate Front Act Award

Victorique (Gosick) vs L (Death Note) for the Diabetic Detective Title

tokuchi toua (one outs) and hiruma youchi (eyeshild 21) both are devilishly cunning and manipulative. great tacticians and gamblers. both of the have blond hair.

Tokuchi>Youchi if we talk about overall strategy. Guess what, Tokuchi actually planned to make Lycaons the ultimate champs (as he promised this to Kojima) and eventually pulled it off.

Take note: Tokuchi is the original blonde evil here, not Youchi. Hahaha.

Tokuchi (One Outs) is pretty much similar to Akagi (Akagi) because they are both on GOD mode and appear to be unbeatable.

On a side note, Tokuchi is like a mixture of Hisoka (Hunter X Hunter) and Akutsu (Prince of Tennis) in terms of physical appearance.

Tokuchi Toua looks like a blonde Hisoka of Hiatus X Hiatus They are also both manipulative.

Prince of Tennis (POT) vs Softenni (ST)

SIMILARITIES:
Theme: Both Tennis-inspired
Setting: School-Tennis Club
Others: School Rivalries, Exaggerated Techniques

DIFFERENCES:
Protagonists - Gender: All male tennis club with an old hag coach (POT) vs. All female soft tennis club with a former National Champion male coach (ST)
Character Development: Rivalries among players in terms of regular spot (POT) vs. rivalries among players in terms of love interest (ST)
Length: POT by like a mile
Ecchi stuffs: ST by like a mile

OVERALL: POT > ST (unless the ecchi-factor would outweigh other aspects)

SAKI vs Tohai Densetu Akagi (TDA) and Legendary Gambler Tetsuya (LGT)
SIMILARITIES:
Theme: All Mahjong-inspired

DIFFERENCES:
Protagonist: Akagi and Tetsuya are both professional gamblers while Saki is a member of a Mahjong club
Setting: Post-World War 2 (TDA and LGT) vs. Modern Japan (Saki)
Game Play: Cheating is very prevalent in TDA and LGT but there is hardly any in Saki however the series is dominated by insane skills/luck/coincidence, etc.
Romance: Almost non-existent in TDA, minimal in LGT and Yuri-type of Romance in Saki
Rivalries: Mentor-Student Rivalry (LGT) vs. School and Club member rivalries (Saki)

Rank: LGT > TDA > SAKI

[Objection]

Urusei Yatsura & Inukami

Inukami's main duo closely resemble Ataru and Lum of Urusei Yatsura.

Steins; Gate vs Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni

Main Similarity: Altering outcomes based on prior knowledge of event or sequence of events

Main Difference: Sci-fi vs Supernatural approach

Plot: IMO Steins;Gate almost = Higurashi, but I like how the sequence of events was presented in Steins;Gate
Humor: IMO Steins;Gate > Higurashi (Kyouma FTW)
Suspense: IMO Higurashi >>>> Steins;Gate
(I firmly believe this is generally the strength of When They Cry series, both Higurashi and Umineko)

1 guy plus 6 girls under one roof is equals to comedy; 6 girls with supernatural powers;

differences: koi koi 7-yung babaeng bida is a diz/airhead who almost seduces the male lead and at one point male lead(tetsuro tanaka), accidentally touches ditzy/airhead heroines breasts, though the latter liked it
ah my buddha: female lead is a tsundere; uses physical violence towards the male lead whenever the latter accidentally touches the girl's breasts
