I swear, I don't want to be a tisay anymore! I envy morenas - they have all the fun! Guys go up to them more often, girls are more comfortalbe in befriending them. Diba? I know some people will say that this has got nothing to do w/ the color of the skin, that this is a matter of attitude but hellooooo, I know for a fact that Tisays create this impression that they are not as approachable as morenas.
Is this an attitude problem? I am tempted in trying those self-tanner products - any recs?! For the tisay people, are you tired of being one? For the morenas - uhh, same question! For the guys, do you prefer tisay or morena girls? For everyone, when you see a super fair girl, what's your INITIAL impression of her? Thank you so much!! |

hmmm, i know exactly what you mean about the "not being approachable" thing. in the philippines kasi, most people "idealize" fair-skinned, not-so-native-looking people. i've noticed that most filipinos' beauty standards are somehow hinged strongly upon skin color and having mestiza features. so kung maputi ka and you look like you have some foreign blood running through your veins, you already have an "edge." and often, people have this notion that you're "up there" or "hard to reach" or whatever. yung mga morena or golden-skinned look more approachable and down to earth.
but based on my experience, i can say that my morena / dark skinned friends have more fun and meet more interesting men! personally, i am attracted to mestizo-types, but you'll notice that mestizos are attracted to dark-skinned girls (just look around you!). such is life. ![]() |

i have a friend who's a real head turner, kasi mestiza siya. i guess people have the perception na all tisays are well-bred, snobbish, conio people...you can't change that anymore.

i've always envied the morenas...i think being fair can get really boring. para kasing mas may color yung mga morenas. i used to really love sun bathing but i realized it's not good for my skin na. i'm not saying naman na ayokong maging maputi, but if i were given a choice, i'd choose to be a little bit darker.

I got lots of Tisay friends...though I must admit what you say is true, Cosmo. Mestizas tends to have this Aura of invincibility/aloofness that makes a guy having second thoughts before approaching a mestiza chick. It's an attitude thing I guess...

It's true that people think that you're unapproachable just because you have fair skin. Also, people assume that I'm rich because I'm tisay. Ngek! I mean, hindi naman kami naghihirap or something, but some people find it hard to believe that I commute to and from school and that we don't have household help and that I do my own laundry, etc. All this becaue I'm fair... Tsk, tsk... Haay buhay.

great self tanner is Clarins Auto-Bronzant Express. doesn't make you look like an orange and dries up very quickly. the trick is to exfoliate and don't overdo it..just 2 coats tops..the color actually goes darker after a few hours.
i'm also 'tisay' and among my Manila based buddies, i'm the only one who loves to go sunbathing..i think it's the whole tisay ideal that keeps people from enjoying the sun. For the past couple of weeks though i've been getting good color..i used to look like a lobster whenever i go sunbathing but ever since i tried putting on suntan lotion, the color sticks na. and i have a routine with my sunbathing..i really time each turn..heheh but be careful, the sun can wreak havoc to the skin..my white friends are all sun worshippers and they look like they're in their 30's when they're all my age(i'm 22). |

I know exactly what you all mean. When I was there, people automatically thought that I was this snob because of my skin color. They said that they felt intimidated to come up to me. Even my fiance now thought back then that I was this big *****...
But anyway, check out my honey's page: www.MastaPlann.com |

Cosmo naman!!! if you find yourself too fair, pano pa kaya ako ha??!
![]() I get what you're saying though. I used to dislike being tisay and for the life of me, I don't get it why so many girls resort to using all these skin-whitening products! I would love to get a tan but I doubt it if I'll ever use tanning products. I really envy Jennifer Lopez, Giselle Bundchen and the likes who have perfect tans! But then, I think of Nicole Kidman, Winona Ryder, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc. - they're all really fair-skinned too so we're still in good company girl I'm not saying that we're at their level - just making a point here - which is, work your skin color to your advantage. Wear clothes, makeup that will flatter the color of your skin. Personally i love wearing red or shades of red like old rose, dark pink - they flatter me best. I apply blush-on everyday so that I won't look Casper pale. Above all else - if you want to look more approachable - SMILE more often ![]() |

I have fair skin, and very light brown eyes, when I was in high school, teachers would call me "tisay" instead of my name. It pisses me off! Yes, if you are fair skinned, you will be labeled as a snob but it depends, I'am approachable, strangers always ask me for directions, so I guess they don't find me as an unapproachable person, but, there is an advantage to being a mestiza, you could make urself unapproachable if you want to!
When I get sun burned, I get rosy cheeks! |

Don't worry my fellow white-skinned pexers, we all have to live with the color of our skin and just try to be approachable as much as possible to people we like in our lives.

I'm a tisoy and I'm also encountering the same situation. Most girls find it a lil' difficult to deal with me. Grouch! that's not right!
Maybe we can have a Tisay and Tisoy EB! tayo-tayo na lang close! ![]() |

I've always found it's a case of you always want what you can't have. Morena ka kaya gusto mong maging tisay (hence skin whitening products that are so popular in some countries), o tisay ka kaya gusto mo maging morena (popularity of self-tanning products in the West).

pale tisays don't do it for me. parang may sakit kung minsan. keep on tanning girls... please. joke ![]() - Caligirl - you're right about the "working class" but i would just like to correct something. a more tanned skinned suggests health and youth. greek slaves for example: tanned and strong. and as we all know western culture has its roots tied in with greek history. our culture still hasnt evolved from that tanned= slave or working class concept. oh well too bad... anyway, you girls are all cute naman no matter what colour you are... wag lang blue. |
