Matter of technology really. I don't think AKTV would find themselves in a situation where they won't compete against ABS-CBN when it comes to equipment advancement. They will be able to match, if not, even go beyond the technological development that the Lopez Group has.

The question though is if they have the right team to run this. ABS has the former Vintage people running the show at the background so you know they're in good hands.

Kung nanonood kayo ng UAAP games ngayon mapapansin nyo ang coverage improvement nila. Meron pang camera shots mula sa taas during timeout/halftime, ala-NBA ang dating!

Creativity ang isa sa kulang ng AKTV, even new guys can do that, hindi kailangan ang pagiging beterano, i guess.

'Yung pagiging masa appeal, pwede naman sigurong gawin 'yun kasabay ang pagiging class ang dating.

AKTV's contract with the PBA is for 5 years. Solar let go of the PBA because it was not earning money from the coverage.

AKTV also has some people who worked under Vintage before. I think MVP should invest in more equipment to improve the PBA coverage.

akala ko, yung transmitter and other equipments na nasa IBC13 compound lang ang pagmamay-ari ng IBC13...

As far as I know, MVP spent for the use of the equipment that AKTV uses for the PBA games.

Investing on new equipment is, of course, essential when trying to run a media outfit. But MVP's funds aren't unlimited and since these are capital expenditures, these eventually have to be justified by additional revenue to recoup the cost.

It'll come. Once the GMA7 deal is consummated, I expect Mediaquest to drop their blocktime hours with IBC 13 since they already own two VHF networks (GMA and TV5) and two UHF networks (AKSYON TV and HYPER). They will use either of the VHF networks to become a sports network (TV5 would appear to be the more logical choice) that's intended for a niche market. GMA will bring in the revenue though and they will strengthen its programming further to ensure that they remain competitive, if not, better in the ratings, against rival ABS-CBN.

But all these will come. There is a need though to rationalize capital expenditures especially since they aren't exactly earning from the PBA coverage. But as their sports network becomes bigger in their effort to collar all the major sports events worldwide (they already have Wimbledon, Australian and the US Open of tennis, the UFL, the English League, the London Olympics, primary boxing promotions except those from Top Rank, the PBA, the NCAA and the D-League, WWE Smackdown, etc), it won't be long before they firmly establish themselves as the premium sports network in the country - better than Studio 23, better than Balls...

It'll take some time. But it'll come.
