PEX The Amazing Race: Episode 1

This is Miami, Florida. First inhabited by the Tequestas for more than one thousand years, it is now one of the most important financial centers in the United States. While residents and tourists enjoy the beautiful beaches of Miami, ten teams are about to embark on a race around the world for one million dollars.



The ten teams are now being taken by jet skis across Miami Beach to the start line, at Jackie Gleason Theater.

Zac & Vanessa, Formerly Dating from Los Angeles, California.

Vanessa: As you all know, Zac and I have broken up December last year after almost 5 years of being together. We joined this race to possibly rekindle our love for each other 'coz those times we were together were truly the highlights of our lives.
Zac: Actually, I kind of miss being with her and all, she knows that. Our work schedules were always packed and we had no time to talk face-to-face. Long distance relationship was really really hard for the both of us. Hopefully, we'd win this race to show them that our friendship is still 100% strong.
Vanessa: The two of us are all in this together.
Zac: And we're gonna bop bop bop, bop to the top!


Dana & Mauricio, Aerobics Instructor and MMA fighter from Connecticut and Brazil

Mauricio: I'm a MMA fighter and he's my aerobics instructor.
Dana: We joined the race to relax a bit from the exhausting fights and trainings.
Dana: Hopefully, it'll pay off.


Roger & Mirka, Married from Switzerland.

Roger: You know that I'm a professional tennis player. Former world #1, but I'm currently world #3.
Mirka: I'm his cheerleader. We have two kids. They're twins, by the way. I just want to spend time with my husband so I forced him to join this race.
Roger: Yeah. At first, I was hesitant because of my upcoming tournaments and I want to be World #1 again, but for now I'll just enjoy traveling the world with my beautiful wife without even thinking tennis for once.


Jon & Ty, Emmy-nominated Actors from Los Angeles, California.

Ty: Jello! I'm Ty!
Jon: And I'm Hamm!
Ty: And we're Tymm!
Jon: That is awful sounding, Ty!
Ty: I know! Let's just introduce ourselves! I'm Ty Burrell, the most famous star of Modern Family! Haha!
Jon: And I'm Jon. If you don't know Don Draper, then I'll get to screw your wife!
Ty: Language, Hamm! We're on National TV, not Cable!
Jon: What?
Ty: Nevermind. Anyhoo, let's get this race going!
Jon: Hold on, I'm lighting my cigarette.
Ty: Wait, you're Hamm and not Don Draper, am I right?
Jon: Ooh! I forgot I'm not Don Draper anymore.


Jess & Lani, Party Girls from the Philippines.

Jess: Hello again! The party girls are back!
Lani: To get money from locals so we can go shopping everytime!
Jess: Haha. Right Lani. And we're going to win. We got screwed in Korea because we didn't hire a taxi. That was our downfall.
Lani: Well because we're saving it to buy clothes after the leg. We did after our elimination before going back to Singapore.
Jess: Now, you're gonna see the fiercer Jess & Lani.
Lani: Watch out for that! We're gonna kick some @$$. We're the only female-female team in this race! If you beat us, you're good racers. If not, kiss our @$$.


Colin & Christie, Married from Corpus Christi, Texas.

Colin: We're back for the 2nd time. We can't join TAR:All-Stars because Christie got pregnant.
Christie: A beautiful baby was the reward for not joining the race. I'm available now so we're here.
Colin: Where's Charla & Mirna? I wanna see them again.
Christie: Stop that! They are probably in Texas feeding our baby.
Colin: You hired them to be our child's nanny? Insane.
Christie: Yeah. Nothing's wrong with that.
Colin: Fine. Enjoy Charla & Mirna!


Ryoichiro & Kenichi, Brothers from Hokkaido, Japan.

Ryochiro: Hi, we're from Hokkaido, Japan.
Kenichi: We're gonna prove that Japanese people aren't only good in sports, but also in competing in a race around the world.
Ryochiro: It's great to travel for free, but the sad part is we're competing. To be able to travel the world, we need to do great.

Pil-Sook: Hi my name is Pil-sook!
Jason: And my name is Jason!
Pil-Sook: We're joining The Amazing Race!
Jason: Oh my gosh.. We're racing around the world!
Pil-Sook: I want to visit different places with Jason.
Jason: And we will win this race!
Pil-Sook: I want to taste different kinds of foods all over the world.. haha
Jason: You want to be fat and gain weight again?

James: Coach Weiss will be pissed at us not attending trainings. World Cup Qualifiers is just around the corner, but we're here competing. Not in football, but in a race.
Phil: Yeah. But on the other hand, I think they will be proud of us especially if we win.
James: Let's go Azkals!


Mac & Kate, Best Buddies from Manila, Philippines.

Mac: Kate and I are best buddies since primary school.
Kate: We are considered as the yin and the yang. One cannot exist without the other. That's what our friends call us. YinYang!


Can these teams stand the pressure and stress of the race? Who has the right combination of brains and brawns? Who will be $1,000,000 richer at the end of the race? These are the questions waiting to be asnwered as we begin The Amazing Race.

*camera pans over Miami until it reach Jackie Gleason Theater and shows the teams and Phil*

In just a few minutes, you will be leaving in a race around the world. This race is divided into several legs, and at the end of each leg, there is a Pitstop. Seven of these pit stops are elimination points, so you need to finish the leg as fast as you can because if you're last, you will be eliminated. Along the race, you will be encountering detours, roadblock, yields and u-turns, but there is a twist. In the first three legs of the race, the first team to arrive will win the Express Pass which you can use to skip a task you don't want to complete.

You first clue is waiting on top of the luggage you brought with you. When I say the word, you can run to your bags, read your clue, hop into one of the marked cars. After that, it's all up to you. The first team to cross the finish line at the final leg will win $1,000,000.

Teams must fly more than 4,000 miles to the city of São Paulo in Brazil.



There are only two flights to São Paulo: United Airlines which will depart at 11:38 AM and Delta Airlines which will leave at 2:48 PM. However, the first flight will only carry 4 teams, while the other 6 teams will be on the second flight. When teams arrive in São Paulo, they have to travel by taxi to Praça Ramos de Azevedo where they will find their next clue.
