TV5 to announce final comeback date of 'Willing Willie'

MANILA, Philippines – The TV5 management is set to announce the date of the return of controversial TV show “Willing Willie” on air, as confirmed by TV5 publicist Peachy Guioguio to Bulletin Entertainment via text message on May 6.

“it is definitely coming back on air but as to the exact date, we shall make the announcement soon,” read Guioguio’s message.

In a recent press interview, however, Kapatid network’s chairman Manny V. Pangilinan (“MVP”) revealed that their management already considered May 14 as the comeback date for “Willing Willie” even as the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) suspension is lifted on May 9. He also noted that more time is needed to make more enhancements on the show.

MVP also related they also came up with new games and gimmicks for the show’s live audience and its television viewers, noting that “Willing Willie” will also be housed in a new studio. It remains unclear, though, if this means they are moviing to a brand new location, or that they have simply refurbished the original studio, which reportedly cost millions to build. Shalani, meanwhile, earlier revealed their set now had a new state-of-the-art LED flooring.

Shalani's confirmation of a “comeback,” which she has made during an interview with “Paparazzi” last April 24, seems to hold true. On May 4, in fact, they already held a dress rehearsal for the show, according to the “Willing Willie” website.

“Willing Willie” has been off the air for nearly a month now after the network voluntarily suspended it following the searing controversy involving a six-year-old “macho-dancing” boy who performed in a segment of the show’s March 12 episode.

The show, particularly its main host, Willie Revillame, then became the center of criticism among government agencies, children’s rights groups and even ordinary citizens. A torrent of complaints urged the MTRCB to launch an investigation regarding the incident. And after almost a month, the board imposed a one-month suspension on the show, but deducted from it the number of days the show went on a voluntary suspension.

According to the MTRCB ruling, “Willing Willie” can resume airing on May 9. However, the board has placed the show under probation, requiring them to secure a permit for every episode; according to reports, this also hold true until the MTRCB deems a permit is no longer needed.
