    [question] Certificate in Teaching Program

Good day po sa mga PExers bago lang po ako dito,. Gusto ko lang po sana magtanong sa inyo tungkol sa teacher's certificate program.. Nagsearch na po ako kaso wala naman pong thread na gaya nito. Ayun nga po, maskom grad ako but i realized na talagang gusto ko magturo at maging teacher, then i discovered this program for non educ degree holders.. Kaya baka sa UST o NTC po ako mag enroll kasi they dont require the students to do practice teaching. Basta anything you know, nakikiusap po akong pakisabihan ako regarding this. Maraming salamat po sa mga magpopost

Hello there! Just graduated Certificate in Teaching Program at PNU last March this year. In my opinion, it is a good head-start course for all non-educ graduates who wish to teach. Formerly it was only 18 units but the new curriculum is already a 30-unit course. But don't be discouraged to take it because you will learn how to teach on each subject along the way because it has already a field study feature where you will observe actual classroom environments in the school that your professor recommended or of your own choice and how will you going to apply it on the subject you are currently enrolled with. Plus, this is the essential requirement for you to be able to qualify to take the LET if you are really wanted to become a full-fledged educator. In my part, I really fell in love studying at PNU. It is a really a great school to hone educators. Downs about the course? Well, TIME. You should really invest time because the enrolment officers will be the one to give your designated schedules and not of your own choice. If your Saturday is your free time then it is the best day for you to take the subjects for the semester. But there are also classes that starts at 5:30 pm on Monday to Friday (except Wednesday) but these skeds will be only available if Saturday slots are already full. And also with the schedules with the field studies and other projects, you should really allot time for those activities. It really depends on managing your availability. Hope these details help your decision to take the CTP course. Good luck!

Hello again! Well, if you are going to be a full-time student with 3 or subjects each semester, you'll be able to finish it within a year and a half or maximum of two years. In my part, I have to juggle between my work and studies so I only took two subjects (6 units) each sem. Time management is really the key. Even there was a tuition fee hike, PNU is still one with the affordable fees combined with quality education compared to other universities. Plus, their review materials in LET is so much similar to the actual exam so you would get a lot of tips and techniques from them on how to ace the examination. CTP specializes in Secondary Education so you're right, English is definitely the major you are going to tackle in the LET exams. As for me, I'm a Computer Science grad so my specialization is TLE or Technology and Livelihood Education. Here's the subjects you will be taking in CTP:

Educ 1 - Foundations of Education (3 units) with Field Study (1 unit)
Educ 2 - Childhood and Adolescent Development (3 units) with Field Study (1 unit)
Educ 3 - Curriculum Development (3 units) with Field Study (1 unit)
Educ 4 - Principles and Strategies in Teaching (3 units) with Field Study (1 unit)
Educ 5 - Assessment of Learning (3 units) with Field Study (1 unit)
Educ 6 - Developmental Reading (3 units) with Field Study (1 unit)
Practicum A (Pre-service Teaching) - for those who don't have yet experience in teaching/On-the-job training
Practicum B (In-service Teaching) for those who already have years of experience in teaching. Will do only researches.

But don't worry on the practicum A if you don't have experience yet in teaching, you can already take the LET as long as you have already finished the six subjects that I've mentioned.

There is an online education where they also offer these subjects but based on my experience, classroom interaction is still the best way to learn the course well.

Hope these will help to your major, major decision to study teaching. Don't worry, it's worth it once you've finished the course. Good luck!

CTP really specializes in Secondary Education. It is the first course to be taken before you can study Elementary, Early Childhood Education or SPED at PNU. You can definitely already qualify as a teacher as long as you completed all 18 units and of course the LET. If you accomplish CTP, you can take any other certificate courses or masters of your own choice. For me, I'm planning to take up MA in Educ Management next year. It's again an investment so I really have to plan things up very carefully. About the review, there are 3 areas that you will going to tackle: General Education (English, Mathematics, Filipino, Social Studies, General Science), Professional Education (all 6 core subjects) and Specialization (your major). So it's not necessary anymore for you to take up the other subjects that you have seen in your friend's prospectus. And it's really up to you whether you're going to attend review classes (which I'm saying this early on, you have to prepare a substantial expense for the review materials alone) or do a self-review. As for the board exam, I've already took it last April. Just waiting for the results right now. Hope this helps. God bless!

I'm an engineering grad i want to teach math, physics, etc in hs.

pagnag enroll ba ko next sem, 2nd sem sa PNU at full time makukuha ko ba lahat ng 18 units in just one sem, balita ko 30 units na? Gaano katagal kaya makukuha yung certificate for teachers kung nag full time ako?
