    Trouble in Syria

If this happens, I feel that this will result to a much wider conflict and the whole world will feel the effect.

    Finally....
17,000 Pinoys face evacuation from Syria
By Aurea Calica (The Philippine Star) Updated Aug 17, 2011 12:00 AM

Malacañang yesterday said it is preparing for the repatriation of at least 17,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Syria after tension escalated in the troubled Middle Eastern nation.

How about Pinoys in Iraq and in Libya? I don't think situations there are getting any better, too.

Will PNoy pay for each of the 17,000's fares and accommodations when they get back to the Philippines? will they be provided with enough subsistence allowance for at least 3 months?

Is this a force evacuation? There might be some PNoys in Syria who have been there for a long time and have a family and considered Syria as their home now and might prefer to stay there. But, then, anybody who thinks about the welfare of their family, would be foolhardy to reject the offer of repatriation. How will PNoy's administration handle repatriation of OFW's with a family? Will they be provided housing?

(And check out my new Pins? Don't they look good and attractive?)

I believe the government's obligation to OFWs might be limited by whatever they agreed and signed to in their contract when they decided to be an OFW. Outside of that, it will just depend on the magnanimity of the President.

Majority of 17,000 Filipinos in Syria are working and living there illegally, making them more difficult to extricate from strife-torn areas, according to a migrant workers advocacy group.

Assad warns action against Syria will backfire

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Sunday unrest sweeping the country had become more militant but he was confident it could be controlled and warned that any military action against his nation would backfire.

Syria, which borders Israel, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey and Jordan, has regional influence because of its alliance with Iran and its role in Lebanon, despite ending a 29-year military presence there in 2005. It also has influence in Iraq and supports militant groups Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah.

Army deserters on Saturday took the town of Douma northeast of Damascus on Saturday after fierce fighting, activists said, a day before the Arab League decides the future of its Syria observer mission.

The League looks set to extend the mission at a ministerial meeting on Sunday, despite heavy criticism that it has failed to stem the violence, and fresh reports on Saturday of civilian deaths.

Ang hirap na paniwalaan mga drama ng mga taga Syria. Mag dra-drama sila sa internet and other international media para makialam at mainvolve ang US and Europe. Pag nakialam ang US at tinanggal nila si Assad, sisishin naman ang US for their "imperialist" intentions. Katulad na katulad ng nangyari sa Libya and Egypt. Hayaan na lang magkamatayan sila doon.
