    Residential Window Tint

what is your experience regarding tinting your home windows ?
which brand is better in terms of quality and value for your money?

There are a couple of popular brand tints available. VKool, 3M, SolarGuard..

Any experience on this? and how much do they usually cost

frostik for frosted effect. with proper lighting and positioning of tubs, bowls against the lighting and window, you can make your silhouette at bare minimum. light-person-window (viewed outside the window) will create maximum silhouette as the shadow cast by the light highlights the outline of the figure more. person-light-window controls the silhouette better.

3M and solarguard medyo pareho ang price. VKool is the most expensive (at least 3x) pero vkool is the most effective. kahit double ply pa ng pinaka madilim na tint ng 3M.

also, VKool is less darker in shade than all the other brands when comparing equal heat rejection properties.

Reconsider putting a big window (as shown your photos). you could apply those one-way 3M magic tints which is effective during the day, and you could install horizontal or roman blinds naman to block the view when needed especially at night. At least you would have a big window ready when you need natural light or natural ventilation during certain occasions.

One option is to intall blinds that rolls/covers from down up instead of the typical roll-down, so that you can leave the shade half open (the upper half of the window), hence the rooms view outside is blocked but light from the sky can still come in.

Yung mga iron grill or trellis works sa facade ng bahay ay permanent obstruction and works more against the observer from inside the house than from outside. Besides, those trellis works have to match the design of the house, which mostly are modern, zen and bali architectures. My impression is that you love to have much natural light coming inside the house but very concerned about your privacy. Roman blinds and other blinds made of fabric, fiber, plastic, sheet metal or wood are opaque--walang defined silhouette visible from the outside.

very informative, super thanks! by the way, we're up for the zen type of house design. so ganun pala, mas obstructive sya sa amin na nasa loob kesa sa makakakita from the outside hmmmmmm... you're right, kaya gusto ko pumasok ang natural light, kasi sayang ang liwanag kung magbubukas pa ng kuryente during daytime... so!!

  11. #11
Actually the tint for me is for reducing internal heat.

I just installed a Rikecool for my SUV, gusto i-test talaga kung gaano ka-effective itong tint na to..

Kung talagang effective i'll definitely consider this for my home windows.

Quite alright, yours are legitimate concerns. The tint may be applied by architectural glass installers. A trusted tint-boy sa mga motor rows could to it as well. Pwede rin kayo--watch those tint boys apply them on windshields; it is a lot easier to apply it on flat rectangular surface. Since tint films are sold from rolls, make sure lang that you are using efficient and economical cut from the tint roll stock--yung walang masyadong tapon, but at the same time walang dugtong sa application sa window panel mo. Do some geometry. You may use other brands, as 3M might be more expensive than necessary, especially if the window you are going to apply it on does not fall under direct sunlight and, thus, would not need heat insulation. Although 3M tints are very visually clear at masarap sa mata to see through.

^maraming salamat talaga Mr. Rendaku. we're considering 3M, may kakilala kami ng pwedeng bilhan sa 3M office (e.g. carmat we got was P2,200 lang, pero sa labas nakita ko P4,600), employee kasi sya so sya ang naiisip ko kuhaan ng tint if ever, tama ka per roll nga yun.

Was recommended by a friend about this clear film called Rike Cool, said it was a clear film that blocks the heat daw, so took a shot at it for our attic as it was scorching hot ( thanks to the afternoon sun )...the first 2 days noticed the heat but considerably decreased in terms of quantity...after a week thats when I felt it was worth the investment, guess the curing takes a week before you could really feel the difference. Cheaper than v-kool but did the job as recommended by my friend and recommending to my other amigos as well.

  15. #15
the tints used on cars and building windows are the same stuff.

kung heat ang problem you should consider insulation. tints only last a few years in respect to effectivity and the actual color / "tint" fades away eventually.

insulation from heat pretty much lasts a lifetime. keeps heat out, keeps cold in.

  16. #16
just a correction, heard that if you use the film from cars on buildings or homes, they will do the job partially but fade quicker than usual. Will be a painstaking effort to scrape off the film every 2 years. There are films meant for buildings that cost a little more but are far more durable and last longer. Good films are V-kool and Rike Cool for homes etc...

  17. #17
^ yes, there are tints for architectural and vehicular use. Rike Cool is a good example. If you read through the Rike Cool thread in Tsikot.com, most users complain of the rainbow effect. As it turns out, Rike Cool seems to be suited for architectural use, rather than cars.

Pero if you ask tint suppliers about clear tint for cars, they will often point you to an architectural tint, but the thinnest kind. Thicker tints will be more suited for architectural use.

ano pinagkaiba ng bronze glass tsaka tinted glass? tama ba na-iassume na yung bronze glass eh clear glass lang na may bronze tint? or magkaiba talaga to?
