artangelo, same lang to sa Ateneo ME and UP IE. more related ang Ateneo's ME sa UP BAA except that BAA has an additional Accountancy course.
Job opportunities? If you're looking for something technical, go for IE. But if you're looking for something more generalist (i.e. flexible as regards career opportunities), go for BAA. Be prepared, though. Accounting is not for everybody.
simple lang yan...BAA=accountancy. so if your aim is to be a CPA and get into audit or finance after, then go for BAA.![]()
Tama. I agree. Go for BAA..
Ayan post #1 for my UP pin.![]()
IE!!!
for UP Pin too HAHAHA
IE! IE! IE! Wooot woot. At kumukuha na pala ng IE courses ngayon ang CBA.
#UPPinPlease First day na ohhh HAHA
I can't argue against IE since wala naman ako kakilala talaga, casual acquaintances lang. But here's my biased opinion on BAAsince course ko yun:
-if you're the type na mabilis madala sa herd mentality (I'm not advising you to be one), then you would probably pick BAA. Based on my interactions with GE classmates during 1st year and 2nd year, BAA, MBB, EEE courses lang ang talagang magpapa-wow sa kanila. Yung tipong, "ano daw sabi, sinong BAA?!!" It came to a point that in my 2nd year GE classes, when people were asked to introduce one-by-one, I had to go to the CR to escape these awkward situations. Also, at least in every GE class I've been, there's at least one or two na eventually makikita ko din pala during 3rd year since nag-shift na pala to BAA. I don't know how it is now, but nung time namin ganun talaga (around 5-6 years ago)
-yes, tama yung comments nung iba about it being a generalist business course with accounting nga lang. So if you're interested in having a comprehensive learning experience on how a business works - marketing, strategic management, finance, controllership, HR, accounting, operations, even business law - then this is the course for you. We even had 4 economics subjects - macro, micro, international trade, monetary and fiscal policy.
-if you graduate from the course, consider yourself a CPA already. almost palaging 100% ang passing rate namin sa CPA boards, and kung hindi man, mga 1-3 lang ang hindi pinapalad pumasa, although conditional status lang naman. We did not get the top 1 spot nung batch namin but there were 4 who made it in the top 10 (alam na ng mga BAA dito kung anong batch ako haha)
-you're in good company if you get accepted in BAA. I remember in our Math 17 BAA block, when the professor asked kung sino vale/salu/ 1st hon mention nung hs, parang 70-80% ata nagtaas ng kamay. (kasama ako dun sa 20-30% na hindi). we're all friendly with each other, but when it comes to acads, competitive and patayan talaga, lalo na in 3rd year na magkakasama na lahat lagi since puro majors na. KApag 4th-5th yr na, the competition dies down a little since by then we've already warmed up with each other, or is it the fact that 50-70% of your class in 3rd yr had already been wiped out?
(see below)
-tough exams. well, this would only strengthen you (if you don't happen to get eliminated in the first place). starting on your 3rd yr, may isang accounting subject every sem na talagang manganganib ang grades ng karamihan (imagine, the median grade most of the time for these accounting subjects is 2.50 - 2.75, which means half of the class eh hanging on 2.75 or 3.00, or kung minalas talaga, 5.00, which means out ka na or retake). I remember during one dreaded long exam on cost accounting (4th yr), 8.30am pa lang nasa room na yung mga tao, nervously discussing about the 9am - 3pm (no break) exam ahead. 6.45 kami natapos, and most of us were complaining na kulang sa time! Imagine sitting through an arduous 6-9hr exam, tapos malalaman mo most of you hindi man lang tutungtong ng 60+ mark yung grade. Consider yourself lucky kung makaka 70-80+ ka. Yung mga nakaka 90, mga summa lang nakakagawa nun
-good career prospects. many get accepted to prestigious multinationals such as P&G, Unilever, Nestle, Shell, etc. as management trainees or management level agad. Some go to investment banks such as Citi, HSBC, ING, Credit Suisse etc. The rest opts to go the top accounting firms. I know of one, na na-accept sa McKinsey and Co. recently (top management consulting firm) who's already earning 6-digit monthly salary. Well summa naman kasi siya and well-rounded pa
Ako I'm currently in the financial services industry, and in a few years time will earn the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation. Tapos apply na ko sa top business schools in the UK haha![]()
