obviously, this isn't a well thought out thread.

it makes me wonder though where the class envy is coming from.

I'd like to think they (mayaman vs. mahirap) just have different motivations in studying and finishing degrees in UP.

KALOKOHAN YUN. ang UPCAT mahirap ipasa (proven na mahirap talaga, although di ko pa natatake un) kaya mahirap *** exam nila .. para hindi nila ma downgrade *** UP , which is kailangan nila ng matatalinong student talaga.. at hindi lahat ng mayayaman BOBO.. porket mayaman na UP naisipan mo na kagad na BOBO na taga up.. why wont you try the UPCAT?

It's sad to think that some students believe that rich = stupidity. I hope this sort of prejudice is forgotten come the Ikot tour or when the first few days of college start. I've always thought this school had an open mind, enough for any sort of person to feel welcomed. (Coming from an incoming freshman) I hope I am proven that as I get to know more about the school.

WOW. I've read almost all of the posts here. I'm an incoming freshie and guess what, sa College of Home Econ pa. Promdi ako. I've seen some of my future class/blockmates who really are rich and I have to admit, it's a bit intimidating to see them at first, but I shouldn't be bothered much. A UP Education is all I want, and that doesn't only refer to education inside the classroom but outside as well- exposing yourself to different people and environment. I think being able to socialize with people who are of different social statuses will be a very big part of discovering and developing one's self more.

Ngayon lang ako nadalaw ulit, madami nagagalit sa title pero it serves the purpose, it did attract attention from opinionated people. Most people here are negating the premise na bobo taga UP, so for me that's nice to know.
I hope you do great! Enjoy the UP roller coaster ride! I

I would be more concerned if the students do not still use laptops in school. Outside of the country there are universities where that is even a requirement. The sad truth remains that more and more students from UP are coming from better schools since there has been a degradation of the quality of education from public high schools lately. Kahit sa Phisci or sa Masci more and more students are coming from families who can afford better education.

I don't think it is wise to judge the whole system based on what happens in one course. Not to mention that the Ts' brother are observing freshmen who are still learning the UP culture. I am from UP Manila btw.

  10. #50
Maraming UP alumni na broken-hearted kasi hindi nakakapasa ang anak nila sa UP. Pati na rin mga faculty at non-acads. Apparently, genes are not always enough.

Masyadong discriminatory si T/S. I have 2 college kids, 1 is in UP Diliman and the other is in UST. I know the difference.

Eh sa UST puro fastfood nga dun unlike sa UP may turo-turo style sila like lutong-bahay and Rodicks. Dun pa nga ako nakakabili ng kwek-kwek and banana que whereas sa UST, KFC and other fastfoods...

Try nyo pumunta sa UST during enrollment, 1 lane sa Espana is occupied by cars entering UST.

My son who is studying in UST needs to buy new books every sem unlike yung anak ko sa UP na puede kahit photocopy lang. My son needs to wear long-sleeves uniforms sa UST everyday, nice shoes and pair of pants pero yung anak ko sa UP, naka-shorts lang kung pumasok with china phone and minsan naka-tsinelas pa

So what kung may kaya yung mga nakakapasa sa UP. Subsidized nga ng mga well to do students yung mga poor kasi they are forced to pay 1,500 per unit whereas yung mga poor ay almost free.

One of the reasons why there are few poor but good students entering UP is because the elite private schools are pirating them. Free tuition/books and allowance.

Also, di bobo taga UP kasi yung anak ko na valedictorian nung elementary until high school ay nasa UP. Yung classmate nya na salutatorian ng elementary and lumipat sa isang science high school at tinalo nya sa mga inter-school quiz bee but naging valedictorian dun ay inalagaan ng Ateneo. Now, scholar sya ng ateneo. Without Ateneo, I am sure sa UP rin ang bagsak nung bata.

I think, sour-graping lang yung relative ni T/S na nag-drop and lilipat sa UST. Baka bagsak, hehehe....

Topic of debate sa class is kung mas ok ba ang iPhone or Blackberry.

Feeling daw nya talaga mabobobo sya, magiging insensitive at palasak.

Wala daw kwenta sa UP.

    College of Home Economics sya...
    ^TS

Personally, I am not yet an Isko myself pero giving the definition na mayayaman na lang ang nakakapasa sa UP eh parang sort of discrimination na yun sir. May hinanakit ka ba or something?

Haha. Kasi as you've said, bobo.

There's no problem naman kung may mayayaman sa UP. Bakit?

UP is the most prestige school in the country. Of course, many will want na makapasok dun. Mahirap man o mayaman.

    KUYA, BITTER KA BA?

This is a non sense thread. Saka sa ibang bansa, ang mga gadgets are even requirements. SO WHAT?! Grabe big deal koya? Insecure ka masyado. Give yourself a break.

Haay nako. Buti pa ako kahit 16 years old e open minded. Unlike you, makitid utak.

Many students ng UP gumagamit ng Jeep. Sikip nga e Hindi ako mayaman, may kaya lang. Pero, I own a Corby myself. Be open minded koya!

[QUOTE=ugers;56473730 I went there the other day and I just thought, wtf is this DLSU?[/QUOTE]

The other day?

  17. #57
Um, yeah. UP is definitely far from DLSU. Sobrang layo. Try nyo kasi tagalan dun. You can't really tell the school's culture by merely staying for a couple of hours.

Yes, maraming mayaman sa UP. Marami ring middle class. May mahihirap din.

And your social class does not define how smart you are, mind you.

HAHA. Bakit? Di nyo ba pinag-uusapan yon? Kahit ano naman pwede pag-usapan. Nag-uusap din kami about social issues and politics. Madalas. Ano ba.

At chaka. Oo nga. Dami kaya sumasakay sa jeep. Hirap nga makipag-agawan eh!

Bihira umaattend sa klase? San?

Yun yung malungkot.

  18. #58
Kung totoong mahirap ka talaga, may STFAP naman which would bring your tuition to roughly the same amount as that in the early 2000's.

You'll be paying 300/unit again and if I'm not mistaken, your miscellaneous will be waived.

300/unit is already very cheap. Under the lowest STFAP bracket you'll generally be paying less than 6,000 pero sem. If you still can't produce 6k/sem for your college studies, the blame is already either on your parents or your personal circumstances already. Huwag sisihin ang UP.

This isn't a new circumstance. Dati pa lang even before the 300% increase, there were a lot of UPCAT passers who didn't enter UP due to financial reasons.

"Financial problems" isn't limited to tuiton fee alone. There are a lot of students who can't afford living expenses (for those coming from the province) or can't afford the daily commute.

  19. #59
    ^Ts. Fishy? Ampalaya? Katayin kita.

  20. #60
UP parin naman po to. Walang pake-alamanan, kanya kanyang trip.
