At totoo ngang may mga mayayamang UP students. I live in a condo along EDSA, near Timog Avenue. May mga times na may nakakasabay akong UP student sa elevator (well at least, according to his/her t-shirt). Siguro doon talaga sila nakatira ng family nila OR he/she owns the condo unit. Who knows???

Parang ATENEO or LASALLE at 1/3 the cost.

UP's culture, sense of deeper nationalism and social responsibility.

    To TS:
    WOW! Very well said!

It seems your sister is not meant for UP. Maybe the best option will be to transfer to another university and/or course. Baka maging mas at home sya doon and she will find her place in the sun.

I agree hindi nga talaga sya para sa UP Diliman Siguro nga kailangan nya na mag hanap ng iba. Thanks

an exaggeration. marami pa ring dormers, at sa pagkakatapos ng acacia dorms at ng centennial dorm, siguradong dadami pa ang dormers in the next two years.

true, dorm culture has "diminished" compared to its counterparts during the 1980's - 1990's, but dorms still celebrate their respective dorm weeks and still sponsor USC-led concerts during fairs. sa ganang akin, mararamdaman mo pa rin ang dorm culture sa UP.. di kailanman mawawala yun.

If you'd rather have a sheltered college life, then by all means don't go to UP. The mere fact that you get to meet people from varied backgrounds is part of the UP appeal. While it's true that UP demographics have indeed changed, it is no reason to falter.

    Adapt.

That's what UP students have done, are doing, and will be doing in the next years to come. That makes a UP student worthy of the name.

I read an article in kule a few weeks ago, 50% daw ng passers from public schools, at 50% naman from private schools.

I honestly don't understand why people are fuming over the fact that there are rich people studying in UP. Just because your parents have money, doesn't mean that you should be deprived of the a UP education. Hindi charity organization ang UP, it's a state university.

Kung lahat ng tatanggapin ay galing public schools, edi nag devalue na ang quality ng student body, since you would have turned down a lot of "cream of the crop" students from private schools. This goes against UP's tradition of aiming to have the brightest set of students from different backgrounds.

Tama lang yung 50-50. It gives public school students a big chance to enter a prestigious university and at the same time it is aligned with the goal of getting the brightest students. UP is the University of the "Philippines", encompassing both the rich, the middle class and the poor, ideally for everyone to help our country.

Regarding tuition, I would admit that 1000/unit is steep for a family with low income. Ideal talaga yung 300/unit, pero no choice ang UP given the demand for better facilities, higher wages for professors and the low subsidy from our government.

Pero di ba nga, nasa UP ka kasi you want to gain knowledge and to hone your craft for your own benefit.

Bitterness to the highest level!

Medyo mean, pero totoo. Ano pala meaning ng TIBAK? HAHA.

May classmates kasi ako noon na ganun mag-isip. I don't know the right word to describe that kind of reaction. Kaya lang, they started eying on my friends' gadgets then they were saying "sana ma-hold up ka pagsakay mo ng ikot". And so that's it, they're already overreacting.
