Now that Slaughter has played in the PBA...

...is he still eligible to play in college?

    Just clearing things up.

i'm sure ateneo and the uaap made paperwork to clear him for national duties.

you've got to be pretty stupid not to think about that.

Greg Saughter, like Aldrech Ramos, are college players who are members of Smart Gilas, the country's mens national basketball team.

As part of their training for the Olympic qualifiers later this year, Smart Gilas has taken the place of Red Bull Barako in the PBA's Commissioner's Cup (Red Bull has begged off from fielding a team, at least in the Commissioner's Cup, due to financial problems.)

Smart Gilas is, therefore, just a guest team in the PBA. All its players are not yet eligible to play as regulars in the league because they have not entered the PBA draft. UAAP players who have joined the PBA draft are ineligible to play in the UAAP (unlike the NCAA which allows it).

Said Cup will end by the end of summer.

IIRC, Rabeh and Ryan played for Gilas against PBA teams as well, in the middle of their college stints.

There's a 6"10 player in a certain UAAP MB team to contain that slaughter :-P hopefully

Then the said player just landed a spot in the Blue Eagles. Hahahaha *kidding*

I don't think Slaughter will be the main anchor of the Ateneo offense.

Not bad for a mercenary eh?

But the true test is when he faces the great green beasts. I'm just hoping he can at least hold his own against the likes of Ferdinand and AVO.
    ayan. your post just corrected.

mabuti na ang malinaw. kasi naman. this would be the biggest breach of the don allado/cyrus baguio/yousif aljamal rule. hell, it even supersedes the lou gatumbato/aris dimaunahan rule and its uaap equivalent

I'd hardly call a guy who's part of the national program and the top 10% of ACET passers a "mercenary."

Brian Ilad, on the other hand...

Douthit was injured in the middle of the 3rd quarter in their game today and Slaughter came in and played the rest of the way for the Gilas team.

He may still be a bit raw offensively but he has shown a lot of potential and it seems unfair he will be playing in UAAP this coming season. I saw one instance where he blocked the import and Kerby 3 straight times. I think he finished the game with no less than 6 shot blocks.

Then the DUNK was just sick and with two B-MEG players coming up with him at that with Pingris almost being the third poster boy.

The foot work is not there but as Dr. J said he is still 6'11" and you cant teach that. Now Norman you have your work cut out for you on this one but even at this stage he will be a good defensive anchor.

He had 7 shot blocks. Not bad for someone who's still feeling his way

I can just imagine what would happen to him once Norman Black trains him full time.

    Sarap maging Atenista!

Then Chua can play the 4th spot with Salva at the 3? Or Chua will back him up at center with golla?

They have a pretty tall line up considering Long and Buenafe are also above 6 feet.

Norman can definitely develop him further and other teams need to gear up all the more this coming season and are they looking at a perfect season as well? hehehehe sana huwag lang maging UE pagdating sa huli.

Unlike Alrech Ramos and JR Cawaling, Greg Slaughter was still serving residency at ADMU when he played for Smart Gilas and was never cleared by the the Uaap board because Ateneo failed to ask for a clearance from them. The Rules clearly state that a player serving residency shall not play for any other league. But, im sure the Ateneo is well aware of that rule.
