    ACL Injury

I had an ACL complete tear and I'm wondering if any of you knows anybody who could give me a good price for a surgery/replacement.

I had my injury out of school and I played against my coach. The school doesn't know and since it's off season. I would like to get it replaced ASAP because of it's 1 year rehab. And I'm sure I could make fast progress of that. And I don't want to get booted out of the varsity. If anybody could help, let's talk through this forum.

    Thanks!

go to your school, its best that they know about it. you can be almost sure that you're insured for it.

if not, go to St. Luke's, I had mine done from Dr. Canlas. He might not be the cheapest, but he does quality work. I'm happy with the results. Other options are Dr. Quintos at Medical City.

Great, there's a thread for ACL tear!

My right ACL got completely torn from a bad volleyball fall last October. MRI confirmed this. I had to leave the country in December so I couldn't quite have the reconstructive surgery yet. Moreover, the doctor (St. Luke's) who diagnosed me pre- and post-MRI quoted P180K, which was kind of steep for me. But I thought, this is my knee we're talkin about here, and I really want to get back to my playing sports (tennis and volleyball), so I've been selling my body to collect sufficient fund (I kid).

Dr Victor Gaddi's my doctor, and he looks really capable. I hope to have the surgery by July (since I again have to go to a trip overseas).

akosimiguel, how is your range of motion nowadays? I still feel a little discomfort when I'm walking (but not all the time), and I havent tried to fully bend my right knee, like have my sole touch my butt during stretching.

I hope to hear from others who've had ACL injuries and were able to go back to their usual activities post-surgery. Yung mga may good news lang po ha. I don't want nightmare stories.

hey mrazmaniac, good to know that you'll be having that fixed. long term effects if you dont have it fixed includes arthritis. and you won't be able to do sports that much.

what's important is you trust your doctor first. I had both knees operated on by the same doctor and i'm really happy with the results. research on the procedure, the type of implants that theyll use and therapy, this will help you alot.

hey aadvark, when did you have your surgery? and, wow, you tore both your left and right ACLs? how'd you manage to do that? =))

And how are your knees today? are you still able to lead a sporty lifestyle? I hope so.

I did some googling on ACL surgery and implants. When it comes to deciding which type of implant to use, is it up to me or the doctor? I just want to get back to playing sports again. I don't care if it takes a year to fully recover. I just want to play again.

Yeah, both knees. Left knee back in '06 and right knee in '07.

It took me a while before I had my left knee fixed. I still did sports even though I tore my ACL, so I think my right knee overcompensated for it. So when I finally got it fixed in '06, after 6mos. of therapy, went back to sports. 9mos after I had my left knee fixed, I tore my ACL on my right. ACL, MCL and some meniscus damaged, mind you.

So there, my knees are fine now. back into sports, although a year of inactivity made my legs weak so I need to continue to strengthen them.

With regard to the implants and procedure, its really up to the doctor. His style mostly and they do change it up frequently. They used the bioabsorbable ones on my left and titanium screws on my right. Same doctor for both, and they got ligaments from my hamstring. The old style (they say) is they get your patellar tendon to replace the ACL (this would take a longer time to heal). Just make sure that you're really confident that your doctor will do the best possible job . Mahirap magsisi lalo na if it's a major surgery.

For therapy, usually its just 6months of 3-5 times weekly therapy for 2months and strengthening and increasing of flexibility the rest of the way. but it's really how you feel about your knees. if you're confident enough to play, go for it.

my main reason to have these fixed, really, is to go back to sports. I probably die with boredom if I can't do sports.

    Good luck!

    ACL reconstruction

    Hi,

After theACL surgery, does it require you to have complete bed rest afterwards? Or pwede na makabalik to work, say after a week? (Using crutches)

Share your post op experiences guys

Hey guys. I tore my acl playing varsity bball way back in '95. Didnt have it reconstructed until '99. Did the rehab. Tore it again in a game in '02. Didnt wanna go through surgery again so lifestyle modifications na lang ako. Took up other sports. I'm an orthopedic surgeon now by the way. :-) so maybe it was fate that i messed up my knee in the first place. To everyone out there with a torn acl....its not the end of the world....even though it seems like it and it can be very frustrating. :-)

I had my first ACL Reconstruction last 2006.

I tore the graft just last Sept. 2
