    Adele

Have you heard of Adele? Adele is a soulful singer who's popular for singing hits like Chasing Pavements and Rolling In The Deep. She has released two albums so far, namely "19" and "21", which were of huge success, mainly in Europe.

Thumbs up Adele "21" - Music Review

Personally, "Someone Like You" is my most favorite Adele song to date.
I got really inspired by "21", so I went on and wrote a music review:

Adele's "21" Sets the Bar High for the Best of 2011

    Adele - 21 [2011]

    XL Records

With expectations running high after her debut album 19 [2008] launched into charismatic reception in the United Kingdom, United States and just about every stratospheric height, Grammy-winning artist Adele Adkins certainly has a lot to prove as her latest offering, 21, hits the shelves in increments worldwide, into the ears of eager fans and discerning listeners.

The verdict? A sophomore slump it ain't.

Adele has truly evolved into her music, and not just “a BRIT School alum with awesome talent and a big voice', as was presumed when she burst in the scene. While 19 may have spawned the chart singles "Hometown Glory", the Bob Dylan original "Make You Feel My Love" and the acclaimed “Chasing Pavements", the album in general was pleasant, if not permeating. A few standout tracks, good hooks, and stirring choruses that prompted many a listen into the young British singer-songwriter's abilities, was favorably gauged (although mixed) with the guarantee that Adele's talent was incredibly promising. In a bevy of breakout Brit contemporaries, some of them had sassy follow-ups (i.e., Lily Allen's "It's Not Me, It's You"), and satisfactory sequences (i.e., Corinne Bailey Rae's "The Sea"), though others weren't as stunning (i.e., Duffy's "Endlessly", a hollow contrast to her delightful "Rockferry")... could it be that Adele has the best one yet?

Adele hits the UK with a historical one-two punch!

Adele’s Someone Like You rockets up the Official Singles Chart from last week’s number 47 to become the UK’s new number one while her current album 21 heads the Official Albums Chart for a fourth week.

With single Rolling In the Deep and album 19 also charting Adele is the first living artist to achieve the feat of two Top 5 hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since The Beatles back in January 1964.

Adele’s achievement spearheads a huge surge in sales for all the artists who won or performed at the Brits with downloads of live Brit performances surpassing 90,000 sales in just over four days.

Adele also guested in a season-closer episode of Ugly Betty.

Can't forget Marc St. James (Michael Urie) reminding Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) that "...she's Adele, not Amy Winehouse!" Tou-effin-che!!!!

I have no hopes anymore. I asked Sony Music Phils about it, and they said they are "gonna try to get some rights". I mean like seriously. She's Adele. She's an international soul star. I don't get why they just don't give SonyMusicPh the rights, or maybe SonyPh isn't trying enough. Do they want us to support piracy? That would cost them more pain. But if we're gonna talk about the J/K-Pop releases thingy, oh boy.

How about spamming artist threads for the likes of our Adele as well as Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend to get local distribution?

Hey, I got to listen to her current "21" CD through...well, you know what (me credito no es bueno - go figure!!!). Yet SonyPh is quick on the case for the Glee-diots out there.

I certainly don't enjoy how our country has been associated with toothless enforcement of IP laws, but if piracy is the only alternative for true music lovers over here, then I have no recourse but to momentarily follow the herd (chances are, 8 out of 10, I eventually buy the stuff I download - case in point, Cee-Lo's The Ladykiller CD)

haha na discover ko yung music niya dahil sa sobrang nainis ako nung hindi nanalo ang pinakamamahal kong si Sara Bareilles bilang New Artist of the Year nung Grammys at siya ang nanalo hahaha....

nagsearch ako kaagad nung mga songs niya para makita kung worthy ba siya sa award and i became an instant fan the moment i heard her version of "Make You Feel My Love" and "Hometown Glory"... tapos pinakinggan ko yung whole album niya na 19 at magaganda talaga yung not only because of her great voice but also the lyrics...

pero naniniwala pa din ako na dapat "TIE" sila ni SARA BAREILLES kasi they're equally brilliant para sakin...

fave song ko sa 19 eh "Best For Last"...
sa 21 ang gusto ko sa ngayon eh "Rolling in the Deep" kasi nakakarelate ako hehehe =)

  10. #10
^ Sarah Bareilles was actually not nominated for Best New Artist, I think you mean Best Female Pop Vocal, dun tinalo ni Adele si Sarah Bareilles (Chasing Pavements vs Love Song).

But I like both although magkaibang genre naman sila

  11. #11
uu nga naman baket ko ba sinabing artist of the year... pero dapat kasali dun si Sara nyahahah...
    thanks for the correction!

speaking of the two songs(Chasing Pavements and Love Song)... mas sikat pa ang mga kanta na yan kaysa sa artists hehe.. parang si Adele and Sara ay nadikit na sa mga singles na yan... sobrang nakakalungkot kasi almost all the songs in their album eh maganda...

dahil may fan din pala dito si Sara Bareilles eh pwede ba akong gumawa ng topic about her naman? hehe di talaga ako papayag na ma-ungusan ni Adele si Sara hehehe... I'm also planning one for Ingrid Michaelson kung may fans din siya dito.... =)

  12. #12
^ feel free to create a thread about those artists

  13. #13
    I will thanks!

btw I like your taste of music... sara and adele... =)

    Good job girl.

Yes! A thread about Adele! I've managed to import 19 and 21 since it was not released here. Very impressed with this girl! She's in it for the long run and she is so refreshing amidst all the Lady Gagas, Rihannas and Katy Perrys dominating the pop scene.

Ordered online or bought it abroad?

  17. #17
^Ordered online. I usually order from either YesAsia or Amazon.co.uk, YesAsia is pricier but the delivery is quick! - you'll receive what you've ordered within 3 to 5 days, Amazon.co.uk is cheaper, the selections wider, but your order may arrive 3 weeks after the order date.

Thumbs up Adele Has Taken The World By Storm!

    From Billboard.com :

Adele's '21' Debuts At No. 1 On The Billboard 200 With 352,000 Sales

Adele storms in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with her sophomore album, "21," selling a mighty 352,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It's her best sales week -- and highest-charting album -- and also the highest frame for any album since the sales week ending Nov. 28, 2010. That's when Kanye West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday" started in the Nos. 1 and 2 slots, respectively, with 496,000 and 375,000.

Notably, "21" also bows atop the Digital Albums chart with 217,000 downloads -- 62% of the set's overall first week. Again, it's the fattest week for a digital set since West's "My Beautiful" moved 224,000 downloads in its premiere.

Adele, who took home the best new artist Grammy award in 2009, reached No. 10 with her debut set, "19." It has spent a total of 71 weeks on the tally and has shifted 948,000 copies in the United States. This week, it bounds 50-16 on the Billboard 200, giving the singer a pair of albums in the top 20. It's the first time an artist has placed their first two releases concurrently in the top 20 since Justin Bieber did so on June 5, 2010, with "My World" and "My World 2.0."

This week, "Rolling in the Deep" -- the first single from "21" -- vaults 13-7 on the Digital Songs chart, moving 151,000 (up 26%). To date, since its release to retailers on Nov. 30 of last year, it has sold 621,000.

Another "21" song, "Someone Like You," which she has been performing to great reaction on a number of TV shows lately, bows at No. 45 with 51,000. Adele memorably sung "Someone Like You" on the Brit Awards on Feb. 16, and in two weeks' time, its two clips with the most views on YouTube have racked up 3.3 million views. (To compare, Rihanna also performed on the Brits, singing a medley of songs from her "Loud" album, and its most-viewed clips have tallied 1.3 million views.)

Prior to the album's release, Adele stopped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (both on Feb. 24), CBS' "Early Show" (Feb. 25) and "Chelsea Lately" (Feb. 28). The official video for "Rolling in the Deep" has picked up more than 16 million views on YouTube and Vevo.

Adele's "21" is basically the only exciting news on the Billboard 200 this week, as the next-highest debut comes in at No. 29 from Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows and its "D.R.U.G.S." album (14,000).
