When I enrolled this past May, I had this in mind. When I asked the enrollment consultant for advise on the prospectus, he just said something to this effect, "just pick among the offered major subjects"... so I enrolled according to what is best for my schedule.

When I arrived at two of my major subjects this past Saturday, the professors said that their classes were for PhD students! When I talked to these professors, they said that the prospectus posted online was outdated (CHED released a new prospectus for my MA program) and the actual MA subjects that I should have enrolled in are the ones I did not avail.

With this at hand, I'm planning to drop and re-enroll to the actual prescribed subjects, either this week or next week. My question is, where should I go for the dropping of courses? Who should I talk to? Should I pay anything (and how much)? Finally, is there any refund in case I plan to drop some of my subjects altogether? In a nutshell, what is the process?

    Thank you

welcome the the USTGS you should go to the graduate school information window;the first window to the left when you enter TARC. if you are going to "drop and add" (substitution) and your not adding another unit load there is no additional pay. but there is a deadline for that and you also have to consider the slot availability in the subjects you chose to replace the previous courses you dropped. goodluck.

    I have a question!

I'm planning to take a master's degree in Human Resources sometime when I finish (and probably some work experience muna, haha). Is there an advantage if I chose the thesis track? I'm asking because I'm planning to take the non-thesis track but a lot are saying that the thesis-track is a lot better, especially to those who are planning to take their PhD sometime. Personally, I don't hate research, but I'm not really going as far as PhD.

Also, is there a GWA cut-off for applicants?

    Thank you!

aside from being able to take your PhD; the thesis track will improve your research (writing) and presentation skills. You will also gain additional confidence due to your realization that you have gone through the rough and tumble period of thesis writing and presentation. At saka ganun din naman may isusulat ka pa din na risert work kahit non thesis track wala lang defense kaya ithesis track mo na hehehe.

    My USTGS Experience--so far!

Hi! In my case, I started with my MA in English right after graduating from college. I was also working then and reviewing for the board exam. I started at DLSU for term 1 (May-Aug) but I was not used to their trimestral system hence forcing me to drop all my subjects (also because I decided to focus with my review). I sent an application to UST-GS for the same program for second sem and they did not ask me to have the test and interview and I just proceeded to the enrollment two weeks after. (I wonder why?)

*About the WORK EXPERIENCE as a requirement:
I think most MA degrees (in Humanities, even outside UST) do not require work experience IF you have an identical bachelor's degree. But definitely one who has few years of experience in the actual field will have the utmost advantage (with regard to recitation).

*Overall impression (UST-GS's curricula, facilities, professors):
Courses at the graduate school are aim towards attaining certain skills, I suggest that if you are planning to take a graduate degree, make sure that you are clear about your goals. If you are planning to pursue a graduate degree because you are just eyeing for a promotion, I don't think that's a good motivation. Before choosing a degree, make sure you understand its rationale and the course descriptions, through this you can predict the "kind" of class that you will be having especially if you are enrolling for the first time. Some professors can be very socratic, some can be research-oriented, some can be activity-based, etc.

I really like the facilities, especially now that the Graduate School has transferred to its new building (in TARC) before, it was sharing the same building with UST High School though there are still some classes being held at the OLD Graduate School bldg. I also like the idea that there is a CAFE inside the building, UST-GS personnel are all accommodating, especially SIR HERBERT who will help you if you have issues about the sched and other academic-related matters.

Professors are very competent but they all differ with their approach in class. One should know how to adapt with their differences, some profs require A LOT while some DO NOT, some require you talk A LOT and some profs do the talking A LOT. You should always ask feedback from other students.

Concers about OVERLOAD, WCE, TWI, II, III.

Hi! I have 15 units left, WCE, and thesis I,II,III before I finish my degree. Is it possible to enroll 15 units next sem (2nd sem, '12'-13') and take the WCE on March? Please also enlighten me about enrolling TWI, II, III. Can I enroll TWI on summer and proceed simultaneously with TWII and III? When do I expect to graduate if have done so? I don't really know how much time I should give for me to finish a thesis, is it do-able in one sem?

This means your Undergraduate's GWA is at least 2.00 (87-88 using UST's scale). No entrance exam, no interview.

you are correct. they based it on your Undergraduate GWA.

if your GWA is 85 and above. they will accept you and no need to take the entrance exam and interview. (ganyan din ako)

if your GWA is 84.something they will put you on probation status. you need to hit a certain grade on your first 15 units i guess.

you need to pass the WCE first before you are allowed to take the TW2.

you can take your tw1 on Summer and take tw2 and 3 the same time.
