Emma Watson's 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' receives R rating by MPAA - rating appealed

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) - which administers the motion picture rating system in the United States - has issued an "R" rating (Restricted/Under 17 not admitted without parent or adult guardian) to Emma Watson's next film to be released Perks of Being a Wallflower for teen drug and alcohol use, and some sexual references.

This has not been a favorable rating to the producers of the film, as an "R" rating reduces the number of attendees to the film. Less attendence, less income. Therefore, the producers have appealed the decision of the MPAA.

The film is not scheduled to come out until later in the year, so there is plenty of time for the appeal to be reviewed and decided on.

The movie is based on the book by novelist Stephen Chbosky and is set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the 1991-1992 school year. The story follows the school year of the main character Charlie, played by Logan Lerman, and explores topics such as introversion and the awkward times of adolescence.

MPAA Overturns R On ‘Perks Of Being A Wallflower’

LOS ANGELES — The Classification and Rating Appeals Board today overturned the R rating given to the movie Perks of Being a Wallflower. The Classification and Rating Administration (CARA) had assigned the movie an R rating for “teen drug and alcohol use, and some sexual references.” The film is now rated PG-13 “on appeal for mature thematic material, drug and alcohol use, sexual content including references, and a fight – all involving teens.”

In the appeal brought by Summit Entertainment, the Appeals Board heard statements on behalf of Perks of Being a Wallflower from Erik Fieg, President, Production Lionsgate Motion Picture Group and Stephen Chbosky, Director, Screenwriter and Author of the book on which the film is based. The Classification and Rating Administration was represented by Chairman Joan Graves.

they had cut then appealed for a PG 13 so expect na it wouldnt be like the book lalo na iyong mga scenes na maybe vital wala sa movie also marami din iyon kasi drugs and sex iyong reasons sa former rating let's just hope na may dvd sila of uncut version or alternate screenings perhaps?

brokeback mountain, the reader and some adapted movies became faithful to the books kaya maganda kinalabasan but we cannot blame them this is a teen movie and malaking mawawala sa kita nila if mawawala ang mga teenagers sa market nila

still papanuorin ko pa rin ito no matter what love the cast! especially logan and ezra

I hope merong unrated edition para mai-restore yung cuts. That's what they did for The King's Speech, right? Yung R-rated version ang pinanlaban sa Oscars, while the PG-13 was for general release. (La lang, kala ko nasa Oscar thread ako ehehehe.)
