Another recent development is the inclusion of Kritika Kultura of Ateneo de manila University in the ISI list. So, that makes 18 Philippine-based journals classified as ISI-quality.

i am very sure that yang 12 na research output ng the feu ay quality at its finest and sited by most acdemic institutions around the globe.

    12 > 325 and that's the true! haha!

    FEU Manila - 12;

As a former FEU college instruction, I guess FEU conducts researches more than this number (12).

tapos meron pang promo na first 500 enrolees, may free laptop.

    ano yun?

may nakita na ba kayo na TV ad ng UP and other well known schools na gumawa ng ad just to attract students?

tulad ng UP, PUP, PLM at MSU.

Like sa PUP, based sa ibang PEx threads, it seems like PUP sta mesa lang daw yung nagpeperform ng maayos. The rest PUP branches are not. nagpapagraduate daw sila ng students kahit hindi naman ganun kacompetent. tulad na lang sa batangas campus nila.

Sa PLM naman, nagtataka ako kung bakit nagtatag pa ng isang state school sa Manila other than PLM. University of Manila ata yun o City colleges of Manila ata.

uulitin ko, there are over 2,000 higher learning schools in the country but less than 20 lang yung may potential to perform well.

for sure mas madami pa yan.

If I'm not mistaken, hindi porket may research, papasok kaagad sa scopus.

May validation pa yan for sure

kesyo mas credible yung isa kahit konti etc.

    Peace to all!!!

That figure corresponds to the number of citations that an institution/research work received. Even if you produce tons of researches if they are NOT SIGNIFICANT then nobody will cite your work.

Research work often leads to new knowledge that's why RESEARCH UNIVERSITIES occupies the top in the pecking order of universities. These research universities regard a Ph.D. degree as a minimum requirement for anybody interested to venture in research and development works. As such a Ph.D. degree is the hardest degree to obtain since it requires that a candidate produce new knowledge. This also makes a medical/law degree puny compared to a Ph.D. degree.

As I mentioned in one of my late posts, SCOPUS only credit researches from reputable sources, i.e. ISI-listed journals or SCOPUS-validated research journals. In the Philippines, CHEd does this as well (see my related post). As the leading abstract citation database in the world, SCOPUS needs (definitely, it's a must!) to validate and screen out potential incompetent research outputs published in dubious and of-low-quality journals. Hence, the low numbers of cited documents of some institutions.

In the academe, it is not enough to publish; researches have to be cited, replicated, extended, refuted, revised and transferred to applied realm of science or humanities. Most importantly, researches have to be credible--that's why they have to be published in caliber journals.

^I forgot which thread I posted that info. I guess, that was in the QS Asian University Rankings of 2010. Sorry, I can't find it anymore.

As everyone has pointed out, it's difficult to instill a culture of research overnight. It necessitates a massive overhaul, if not complete reorientation, of how people view tertiary education. It is, I agree, gruesome how some people, including those in the academe, neglect research as a measure of academic might.

Prevailing Filipino feudal values (obsessed with diplomas as mere tickets to good jobs and, consequently, social mobility) have produced generations upon generations of people who equate education not with knowledge or wisdom or any of that crap, but with professionalization (such as tech-voc jobs), which is not evil per se, but can get crippling if left on its own.

To a certain extent, the mentality is exacerbated by misguided government policy. Aside from budget cuts and the lack of support in general, the way it highlights English, for instance, and its relentless trumpeting of call center jobs and the like send the wrong message. The end goal of education is just that: employment.
