being forced to marry somebody by my parents? hell no. yes i know what they always want is the best for me but if i dont love the dude at all and especially if i got my eyes on someone else, i dont care if theyre going to disown me but im not gonna live all my life being unhappy because i dont love my husband.

and i know im not stupid. when it comes down to marrying someone. a good-looking man who i know can support me and our future family financially (im not saying im going to milk him) and is a good man is what im looking for. so i dont need my parents telling me who i should marry.

The only good thing with arrange marriage is if you're ugly and no one would touch you with a stick in the free market. Welllll...even then I can think of worse things than being single, like a husband that hates me.

The answer to the question is a case to case basis. It depends on the culture, environmental setting, norms and the financial status of the person. I have an ex-girlfriend who choses to be married to a foreigner in exchange for a visa so that she could get naturalized in the foreigner's country of origin. I think that's her only solution to elevate the financial status of her family. In another setting, I have a friend who could not refused an arranged marriage since in their culture, it is considered as normal. The same thing happens in Afghanistan where an old man in his forty's can have an arranged marriage with a 12 year old girl.

I heard uso pa rin sa China. Pero kahit hindi uso, minsan may mga nagpa-practice pa rin nito.
