MANILA, Philippines – Star Cinema and Viva Films announced on Friday that Anne Curtis, Cristine Reyes and Derek Ramsay are going to star in a movie about forbidden love.
Seen by some as the movie of the year with a “casting coup,” Curtis said the film will keep its patrons guessing.
Film writer Ana Manalastas said she made sure that viewers will not be able to predict how the story will develop.
Movie director Ruel Bayani said the roles that Ramsay, Curtis and Reyes will portray are very challenging.
“Hindi ito Kimerald movie, this will be sexy and daring. Not the usual mistress movie na ginawa na noon nina Vilma Santos,” he said.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Reyes said this will be her most challenging movie project by far.
“Ito na siguro ang pinaka-challenging na gagawin ko so far,” she said.
Ramsay, on the other hand, said that he is already excited about performing in the movie.
Ramsay also used the occasion to clarify rumors linking him to actress Erich Gonzales.
“There’s nothing going on between Erich and I except for this movie (another film project) that we’re going to finish off,” he said. – Report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
Viva Films acquires 50 novels of Carlo J. Caparas to be made into teleseryes and movies

OPEN TO ALL TV NETWORKS & CO-PRODUCTION IN MOVIES.
Sagot ni Donna, "With Boss Vic here na talagang may focus 'yan at may direction 'yan, Viva 'yan, e.
"Katulad sa Marvel Studios, it's a brand name.
"The whole idea is for us to produce the materials either through movie production or other networks.
We will be like a major supplier.
"Kung sino ang nangangailangan ng materyales, we are open for negotiations."
"Kunwari may isang station na gustong kuhanin ang isang materyales dito, we are open to negotiate.
Kasi ang movies, for me, mas madaling i-handle.
"Kasi kung 12 movies a year, madali naming matatapos yung 50.
"Alam mo kasi sanay akong magtrabaho.
LINEUP OF ARTISTS.
"Why not?" ani Donna.
10-YEAR TIME FRAME. Aabot sa 10 years ang time frame na napagkasunduan nila para matapos ang 50 titles. Pero posible pa bang madagdagan ito in the long run?
"Ayoko namang pangunahan sina Direk Carlo at Donna, pero kami willing kaming i-extend ng more than 50 yung contract namin."
"Kaming tatlo naman we always work hard, e. But I think this time we will work harder for the industry."
Caparas-Viva tie up good for ailing industry
FUNFARE
By Ricardo F. Lo
The Philippine Star
Updated August 15, 2011 12:00 AM
A mega-deal between Carlo J. Caparas and Viva big boss Vic del Rosario Jr. was sealed last Thursday night at Viva’s Ortigas office, witnessed by movie writers who agreed that the merger is the shot-in-the-arm that the movie industry badly needs now.
“It means jobs for many of those in the industry who have been jobless for years now because of the slump in local movie production,” said Ethel Ramos.
Yes, indeed. Industry workers have a reason to rejoice.
Del Rosario said that he had long been thinking of partnering with Carlo but never got around to sitting down with him, until Carlo’s wife Donna Villa (she and Carlo are known as The Golden Couple because of their successful team-up in their own Golden Lions Films) paved the way.
“Actually,” Donna told Funfare, “it’s not the first time that Carlo and I are working with Viva.”
The Golden Couple and Viva Films have had joint ventures that were box-office hits, one of them The Maggie dela Riva Story (Dawn Zulueta in the title role) which set an all-time box-office record.
The joint venture between the two giants covers Carlo’s 50 blockbuster komiks novels which Viva Films will remake for both the big screen and the small screen.
Called Caparas Studios, the partnership has lined up 11 Caparas classics for early production, namely Rosenda with Sarah Geronimo in the title role (the original stars Janice de Belen), Maestro with Dingdong Dantes (original: FPJ), Bakekang (still searching for the right actress; original is Nora Aunor), Lumuhod Ka Sa Lupa with Robin Padilla (original: Rudy Fernandez), Angela Markado with Sam Pinto (original: Hilda Koronel, directed by Lino Brocka), God Save Me with Gabby Concepcion (original: Christopher de Leon), Tasya Fantasya with Anne Curtis (original: Kris Aquino), Panday Kids with the Bagets stars (of the TV5 revived show), Jacoba with Vice Ganda, Paano Hahatiin ang Puso with Aga Muhlach (original: Edu Manzano with Donna Villa), Dalawang Kagat sa Mansanas with Cristine Reyes, and Dugong Buhay with Bong Revilla and Jolo Revilla (original: Ramon Revilla Sr. and Bong Revilla).
The rest of the titles are: Ang Babaing Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang, Tuklaw, Blanco-Negro, Contessa, Daang Hari, Ermitano, Gagambino, Halik Sa Babaing Hudas, Harimanok, Hingin Mo Ako Sa Langit, Hiwaga Ng Cadena de Amor, Ilaban Mo Bayan Ko, Jesusa (Ang Babaing Ipinako sa Krus), Joaquin Bordado, Kamandag, Kung Bakit Kailangan Kita?, Minsan Nating Hagkan Ang Nakaraan, Mong, Pieta, Precious Love, Quadra, Rosang Mandurukot, Saan Pupunta Ang Pusong Sugatan, Sambahin Ang Ngalan Mo, Sister Leona, Somewhere, To Love And To Cherish, Totoy Bato, Limang Daliri ng Diyos, Andres de Saya, Dalmacio Armas, Alas ng Tundo, Boy Tornado, Sa Dibdib Ng Sierra Madre, Ayaw Matulog Ng Gabi, Pagkagat Ng Hatinggabi and Damon Angelo.
A National Artist who has a street in Pasig City named after him, Carlo has 800 blockbuster komiks novels to his name that have earned him the title Komiks King. He has been variously called Box-Office King (for obvious reason), Teleserye King and The Crossover Artist because he’s the only living komiks novelist who has successfully crossed over from the komiks pages to the big screen and then to the small screen — and back. His works have been remade by all networks (GMA, ABS-CBN and TV5 which is currently serializing Bangis, which is about a little boy who has a crocodile for a friend, starring, among others, Oyo Sotto, Danita Paner, Rodjun Cruz, Miriam Quiambao, Yul Servo and CJ Caparas who is a Law student in Ateneo).
Besides Viva Films, the few other mainstream companies that have been propping up an industry beset by film piracy, onerous taxes and rising cost of production (including big stars’ astronomical asking prices) include Regal Films, Star Cinema and GMA Films, with the rest making movies only for the annual Metro Manila Filmfest. The industry used to produce as many as 300 (or even more) films a year, perhaps second only to India’s Bollywood, and the number has dwindled down to not even 50 these past few years. Most of the output come from indie producers.
That’s why the Caparas-Viva partnership is a welcome development, the revival “pill” that the industry has long been waiting for.
‘Deal of the century’

They are the first to admit it’s a major coup in the entertainment industry.
But komiks novelist/film director Carlo J. Caparas and wife/business partner Donna Villa would rather not divulge just how huge a contract it is. “Basta it’s very big,” Villa said. “It’s the deal of the century.”
And that’s not an empty claim, Viva boss Vic del Rosario confirmed.
Caparas and Del Rosario’s Viva Entertainment just inked a 10-year deal that earmarks 50 of the former’s komiks novels for future development. “It could be a multibillion deal in terms of potential,” said Del Rosario.
On the list of new acquisitions are the novels “Bakekang,” “Pieta,” “Joaquin Bordado,” “Angela Markado,” “Tuklaw,” “Lumuhod Ka sa Lupa,” “Panday Kids,” among others.
According to Caparas, some of these titles were previously acquired by TV networks (ABS-CBN produced “Pieta” and GMA 7, “Bakekang”), but ownership eventually reverted back to him. In all dealings, Villa makes sure that Caparas’ premium as author is protected. “[We always] specify that he should be acknowledged and billed alongside the title,” she said.
Advertisements and collaterals would read, for example, “Carlo J. Caparas’ Pieta.”
In the couple’s previous collaborations with TV studios, Caparas also gave his input on the revivals of his works. “I have a good working relationship with both GMA 7 and ABS-CBN,” Caparas said. “They were open to my ideas and promoted my works well.”
Del Rosario said Viva will continue to give Caparas creative freedom in future projects.
“Carlo can add new characters to his existing novels,” Del Rosario explained. “He can create new works if he wants to. And he will have a say in the casting. We can tap Viva’s stable of artists in the remakes of his novels.”
Caparas said that Vice Ganda would be perfect for the novel “Jacoba,” and that Sarah Geronimo is ripe for “Rosenda.”
He’s eyeing another Viva talent, Claudine Barretto, for the remake of “Minsan Pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan,” whose original starred Vilma Santos in 1984.
“Carlo and I go a long way back,” Del Rosario said. “Our first movie together was ‘Dugong Buhay’ in 1982, which featured Ramon Revilla Sr. and Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla Jr.”
Caparas said, “Maybe now we can do a remake of ‘Dugong Buhay’ with Sen. Bong and his son Jolo.”
Del Rosario’s personal favorite in the Caparas collection is “Citadel.” Caparas said, “‘Citadel’ is my first novel and it hasn’t been adapted for either the movies or TV.”
Viva has big plans for the Caparas catalogue, Del Rosario said. “Our tie-up is multimedia. Carlo and Viva will go into film and TV production, publishing and merchandising. We may tap the Internet, too. New media will play a vital role in distributing Carlo’s works.” (Some of Caparas’ works have been serialized online—“Berdugo,” “Tawak,” “Dugong Buhay,” “Sampung Ahas ni Eva.”)
Del Rosario sees a virtual gold mine in Caparas’ body of work. “Hollywood hit the jackpot with the film adaptations of Marvel Comics novels. Viva is confident with the Caparas catalogue. Apart from the first 50 titles, we plan to add some more novels soon.”
“Santa Nińa” is the first Caparas novel that Viva will produce as a drama series, on TV5. “We’ve studied the industry; it’s the right time to develop our titles again,” Caparas noted.
He related that his latest novel, “To Have and to Hold,” which was serialized in the Inquirer, was picked up by GMA 7 as a possible soap opera. “I can work with all the channels,” Caparas said. “Even with Channels 4, 9 and 13.”
Villa quipped, “Carlo is the original crossover artist.”
when i was growing up.. adik ako sa komiks. halos buong pamilya namin and i really admire carlo j caparas. wala na ang komiks. sayang.

MANILA, Philippines - Young Superstar Judy Ann Santos admitted she is not sure if her movie with Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo will still push through.
In the “Tanong All U Can” segment of “Showbiz News Ngayon” on Wednesday, Santos said she has not heard of any development about the planned movie. She stressed she would definitely be happy if it finally materializes.
“Wala pa akong balita diyan pero sana matuloy kasi talagang isa iyan sa mga pelikulang gugustuhin kong gawin,” she said.
Last February, Santos’ talent manager Alfie Lorenzo confirmed to the media that the three will work in a movie.
Meanwhile, Santos also disclosed she is open to doing another television series.
“Only God knows [kung kailan ako ulit gagawa ng teleserye]. Maraming puwedeng mangyari sa mundong ito,” she said.
Asked if she would be willing to work with actor Piolo Pascual again, the actress replied: “Working with him again, with a good project na talagang maganda at maayos, oo naman, bakit hindi?”
Santos is now busy promoting ABS-CBN's upcoming reality cooking show for kids, "Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition," which she will host.
She is also shooting her comeback movie with Agoncillo, entitled "My Househusband."
Santos took a short break from showbiz after giving birth to her son, Lucio.

by Ogie Diaz

Pinoy Parazzi
ALMOST P24M ANG first day gross ng second solo movie ni Vice Ganda, ang The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin.
“Pero mag-e-expect talaga ako ng bonus, ‘Day, ‘no! Prangkahan na ‘to! Dahil alam ko namang bibigyan nila ‘ko. Choosy pa ba? Hahahaha!”

SUNTOK SA BUWAN Ni Emy Abuan (Pilipino Star Ngayon) Updated October 30, 2011
Congrats! Gayundin sa Star Cinema at Viva Films.
Smack nina Vice at Derek, tinilian
ALLAN DIONES
OCTOBER 31, 2011 MONDAY

A NEW HIT PARTNERSHIP
WE just watched “Praybeyt Benjamin” at my favorite Gateway cinemas at Araneta Center. It’s true that the movie of Vice Ganda, Eddie Garcia, Jimmy Santos, Kean Cipriano and Derek Ramsay did so well at the box office. It looks like it is going to match the box-office record of “No Other Woman.”
If this happens, I hope Vice Ganda should all the more keep his feet on the ground. Remember that everything comes in threes. One more to go—and the movie industry is definitely on its feet again.
Looks like Star Cinema and Viva Films are bringing back the luster of the Philippine cinema.
