Si Fred Panopio! Country yan!
No offense meant, many PExers misinterpreted this thread I created.
Can't help myself but laugh at some comments ( no bashing intended ). As for my opinion, there is really no hardcore country music-type of songs/artist here in the Philippines. The closest that we can compare to the country music of the US is the folk ones that we have or more a more mainstream proportion, Freddy Aguilar, Fred Panopio and Yoyoy Villame. Aside from that I don't see any other artists/musicians flourished in this type of genre.
Just to add: I love Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, Dixie Chicks and Josh Turner.
If Freddie Aguilar is an example, then there might be more examples, perhaps old songs in local languages accompanied by a guitar. It's just that they are not usually part of commercial mass entertainment.
i am a big fan of country music and i hate my fellow Filipinos na pinipintasan ang genre na to.
from ernest tubb to conway twitty-loretta lynn tandem...to garth Brooks and george strait.....to Taylor Swift , Lady Antebellum...to Scotty McCreery...name it....
Folk Music is different from Country Music...they have same origin (old-time music) pero Country is more commercialized. Folk still has subject like problems in life, movement against authorities, mga pang-araw araw na buhay ng tao (kaya nga folk)....country music are songs of love, drinking, cowboys, etc....masarap pakinggan,,,maganda ang mga lyrics... i love the southern twang...l love the cowboy icon....aminin na rin natin na the best looking music artists ay nasa country genre....
pano magkakaroon ng country music dito...Filipinos love Taylor swift not because she sings country.
and what's wrong with hardcore country na sinasabi niyo?
The Pinoy's penchant for "senti" love songs dovetails perfectly in the US country music format, where a great many songs fit into the "cryin' in one's beer" demographic.
Moreover, one can be pleasantly surprised at the wide variety of topics tackled by the likes of top-charting US country music acts - racism, homophobia, the current economic downturn, the heroism and heartbreak of overseas troops...and that's just scraping the tip of the iceberg. Daig pa ang CNN if you try to tune in to a typical US country radio station.
Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party and Eric Church's Chief album are two of the best albums of 2011.
T Swift and Lady A are overrated, but still good performers.
If you want hard-core, try Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert (angas ni ate!), Little Big Town, Brantley Gilbert, and Dierks Bentley.
Most Played Country Song in my playlist
1. Your Man - Josh Turner
2. It's Your Song - Garth Brooks
3. Take a Back Road - Rodney Atkins
4. 9,999,999 Tears - Dickie Lee
5. Co to Jest to Country - Michael Lonstar
6. She's Every Woman - Garth Brooks
7. I've Already Loved You in My Mind - Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn
8. Water Tower Town - Scotty McCreery
9. Ours - Taylor Swift
10. Springsteen - Eric Church
Btw, any posters here from Baguio? Saw a post in the Philippine Music Charts thread coming from a 99.9 COUNTRY FM in the Summer Capital. Looks like the sounds of Music Row are still thriving up there....
ang alam ko lang folk singers. mga tipo ni asin and freddie aguilar. pure country music, waley me alam sa mainstream.
Tiyaka ang Country music is so broad and it's not all about the music, it's the lifestyle! Listening to Country while feeding cattles and breeding foreign/horses (like my lolo's hobby back in 60's when we still have our 10 hectares land)
Ang Kawawang Cowboy - tinagalog lang po yan na kantang Rhinestone Cowboy. So technically, we can't call it our own.
