Don't tell me, you listen to Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, etc., hindi nyo alam yung country music?

There is no hardcore country artist in the Philippines.

^And those are trashy country artists, IMO.

Try Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson, Alan Jackson and Brad Paisley.

Don't forget the classics....Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell and the one and only Johnny Cash!!!

Just how can you open up a country-music discussion without throwing in McGraw-Hill....yup, Tim McGraw and his missus, Faith Hill!!!

I think there are some "country" or "folk" (is there a difference?) artists in the Philippines like Asin and Freddie Aguilar. I don't know if Tito Mina belongs here though. These 70s singers were singing songs way before I was even born and that I once mistook Tito Mina's song to be sung by James Taylor. hahahaha. The first time I heard his song, the similarity of their voices is uncanny.

Here are some of Tito Mina's songs

Got to Let You Know (I thought this is James Taylor when I heard this before. lolz) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXmKVKffzSA

Walang American-style country artist sa Philippines eh. Pero meron tayong folk music.

I've been in a country phase, but I've listened only to mostly contemporary country. Hindi yung hardcore na country na roots at bluegrass ang dating. My favorites are Zac Brown Band, The Band Perry and Keith Urban.

The 2/two Dixie Chicks songs that I really like are "Wide Open Spaces and "Ready to Run".

    Oh no. Ba't mo natanong?

I remember the first song that got me listening to country. Delta Dawn by Tanya Tucker. Kinanta ni Monica sa Friends at natuwa ako. I googled it and found other artists as well. At dahil diyan listener na ako. Haha

Go to the Cordilleras - country music is BIG out there. There are Pinoy songs (bands that sound like a more folky Aegis) that I hear around these parts that I couldn't locate on Google. There's certainly a niche there.

I think a good number of Freddie Aguilar and Asin songs can count as "country" songs in the same vein as John Denver or Johnny Cash.

Country music was never popular here in the Philippines. It will not click because we always try to promote our own Folk music.

Folk music in the Philippines is usually heard during Linggo ng Wika eh?

You were referring to "country artists in the Philippines" and "country music in the Philippines," and I think folk music comes closest.

Perhaps you're looking for local radio stations that play country music. If so, then I think there's one in Baguio.
