Thank you for the pictures. Toni character will most likely be hysterically funny, she has an huge amount of make-up applied on her face.

Hehe there's a stereotype with those who work in Japan. Japayukis = Filipinas who worked/ are working as entertainers in Japan. Usually wear a lot of make up, other people equate it with prostitutes in Japan though.

In the 1980’s, the term “Japayuki” was coined to describe Filipinas bound for Japan under the pretext of housekeeping or honest entertainment work, only to be compelled to work as prostitutes in the thriving sex industry. They were hospitality girls. Derogatory as it was, many Filipinas bound for work in Japan were tagged Japayukis regardless of their kind of work.

In practice, Japayuki refers to Filipinas who worked, or are working, as cultural dancers, bar hostesses or entertainers in Japan – with a sternly negative connotation. It has also become Filipino slang often used to justify how one amassed a small fortune in a relatively short time, presumably while “working” or “entertaining” in Japan. For the few men who become entangled in this profession, the term specifically developed for them was “Hosto,” but it did not adapted as widely as the term Japayuki.

Regarding Tin's transfer to Belo, I actually liked it better. Its undeniable that Belo is the no. 1 Beauty clinic in the country. Which means, more exposure and better quality of ads. And yes, Tin was with Belo before, and now with Belo again. I remember that she thanked Dra. Belo a few years ago, for giving her a laptop.

The Buzz
Noticed that the latest 2 Sundays of Uncensored have improved (i.e., no simultaneous talking). Re Ethel’s news, for example, Charlene provided the gist, Toni provided the background and more details of the story while KC gave her opinion. Even if, at times, I don't agree with Mr. Abunda because I think there were instances when he was subjective and too politically correct, I do respect his opinion.

Re the twitter episode, Toni mentioned that she only listens to people close to her. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. However, the people she knows only represent less than 1% of the viewing public. Wouldn’t she want to listen also to legitimate concerns of part of the 99% of her viewers minus the weeds (bashers)?

Last Saturday’s show was one of the best for me mainly because I enjoyed Toni’s singing of May Bukas Pa and the Happy Ka-Family championship complete with muses, bands, and cheerleaders. The pakwan game was the funniest.

If Toni’s character is a Japayuki / babaeng-bakla, does that mean she’s a prosti? If that’s the case, that’s an offbeat role for her which is good.

^ Regarding her opinion in The Buzz about the twitter thing, I think the bashers' stuck on her mind when she said about not listening to strangers. But I believe that she also consider the opinion online about her.

I think hindi naman prosti. Entertainer lang. Kaya lang kasi, there's a connotation about those who work even only as entertainers, that they also do that sort of thing (sell their body). But I think, Filipinos are more open now, that Japayukis are actually entertainers and not automatically equate to prostitutes.

I thought I'm not counted. Otherwise, there's no point giving comments and suggestions. But even if Toni does not really want to listen to everyone else, I understand her reasons completely.

So, Japayuki is a general term pala for Filipino entertainers with a bad connotation. And how did you know all these? Hhmm...
More than likely, she's just a babaeng bakla entertainer with no fringe benefits for customers. With the recent turn of events in Japan, though, I wonder how the Japayukis are doing. Sorry, off topic na pala. On second thought, I wonder if there's going to be some changes in the script because of what's happening to Japan.

Nung bata kasi ako, kapag may dumadaan na babae na sobrang kapal ng make up, tapos revealing yung clothes and medyo vulgar magsalita, maririnig ko, sasabihin ng mga tao na Japayuki nga daw. So yea, people judge them as skank. So offensive nga kapag natatawag na Japayuki nung time na yun. Ngayon kasi, imo, medyo hindi na ganun ka-judgmental ang mga Pinoy about those who work in Japan. Ngunit ang hindi natin alam, ang trabaho lamang ng Japayuki sa Japan ay kumanta, sumayaw, magpatawa (standup comedy), makipag-usap sa mga panauhin, at magsilbi ng pagkain. Years later, she came back fully made up, carrying a boombox (yeah, not Ipod) that loudly played a Japanese song for all the jeepney passengers to hear. You could just imagine the reaction of the passengers. I just thought it's very funny but it's true.

Yeah, exag outfit is no longer funny, overused especially in ATP. What can you say about the supporting cast esp. the fiancee?

According to the press release, Who's that Girl had 60M for their 1st week gross. Not so good reviews on that one though, so I don't know the reliability of the reports released by Viva. Tsaka mahilig sa hype ang Viva. Wala pang report ang BOM.
