A very familiar story, I am currently working in a government hospital here in Davao. But based on your story, he has edema, perhaps he did not die due to TB but more on cardiac cases like MI, CHD because the time frame of 12 hours is very short. Sudden death is most probably due to heart disease secondary to TB. Well, in a government hospital like ours is bombarded with volume of patients everyday as in sobra dami, sometimes we dont have beds anymore, some intubation are done in the floor actually because of no vacant beds available and only 1 doctor is present in a particular time. So rapid assessment is only done based on the interview of the informant. Supposedly, the patient should have a full work-up not in the ER but a regular visits to the OUT PATIENT CLINIC or Private clinics for check up. Some patients we have even did not consult to physicians even one so when they come to ER, they are already seriously ill which could have been preventable if labs are done prior to disease became worst.

Doctors are not magicians naman that they know everything about the disease, thats why patients stay at ER for observation only and on work-up status or labs are done to confirm the diagnosis. In a goverment hospital, not all patients are required for admission. Only those needed IV therapy meds and close monitoring because of limited beds in the hospital. Actually, we reached the maximum already but we cant refuse admission sometimes, they are stucked in our ER even for several days until the wards are emptied. This is the reality here. In private hospitals, you have all the luxury to be admitted even if you just have minor or non-admissible problems like athletes foot or small abscess from a pimple.

You have the right to complain and we had one experience when we were called by the DOH (relatives were related to some DOH employees kasi) to meet with the watchers/significant others in a closed door meeting. Thank God it was settled there. Everything became clear already. The goal of the meeting is not to suspend a particular employee but was to create a solution so that incidents may not occur in the future.

Mga doctor dyan mga killer as in!! How I wish mangyari din sanyo *** naranasan nming sakit. I salute you..kalokah ka!!

^Meropenem is an ultra-broad spectrum antibiotic. I highly doubt it was injected directly into your father's pulse. Maybe you are misinformed. Meropenem is usually for severe diseases. So perhaps your father was suffering a life threatening illness perhaps chronic illness which resulted in his eventual demise. It is very unfair to put the blame on the ospital and its staff. Though your case is not unique - I mean blaming the hospital/doctor/staff for someone's death, when you can blame the patient or the relative for not consulting a doctor or following his or her advise religiously when the illness is not yet on its terminal phase.

Here in the US, family presence in the ER is highly encouraged, even on resuscitation, intubation or any other complex medical procedures.

And patients should not be sent home unless clinically stable. I am a nurse, and my medical knowledge is somewhat not that superb, but swollen feet maybe an indicator of heart failure, esp. that your dad had TB. It's a good enough reason to be hospitalized and be given acute attention.

    I'm sorry.
    excellent post dikonaalam.

May bulungan dyan na mas kikita daw ang negosyo sa patay. di ko get talaga how it works pero sa ospital na to may katabi syang funeral parlor, galing no?

Me and my wife have our share of sad stories here in this hospital, pabaya sila, pero pag nalaman nila na wala ka yellow card at willing ka magbayad, saka ka aasikasuhin ng tama.
