Nationalians Win the 1st Nursing Quiz Contest

The euphoria after the long festive Christmas break did not lessen but continued early this year with the "1st Battle of the Neurons" Quiz Contest which was organized by the Far Eastern University- Institute of Nursing last January 12. Organizers said the quiz contest aims in educating the growing population of nurses in the allied health care and had invited six (6) participating nursing colleges/ universities within the university belt catchment area. Each team had at least (2) participants and the contest proper was held over three (3) rounds with the top teams progressing to the final round. THe NU College of Nursing was represented by Ms. Arian Nikke V. Amoyo and Ms. Wiljean Melon. NU delegates were able to answer an array of easy to difficult questions during the quiz competition that created a festive turmoil.

The top three teams in the contest were delagates from the La Consolacion College, National University and St. Jude College respectively, garnered the coveted prizes 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for the said activity. A tie-breaking question for the 3rd position was fought over between Nationalian, Ms. Wiljean Melon against participant from the St. Jude College that resulted to former elimination taking the 3rd position.

This year's participation aimed not just harboring camaraderie among nursing students, but also showing the allied medical community the NU -College of Nursing's identity, spirit and to encourage students' drive toward progress and academic excellence.

Cheers to the Nationalian Nursing Students, Shine above the rest!

    National-U President's Baccalaureate Address

Pleasant good morning to one & all.

In behalf of the board of trustees and my administrative colleagues of the
National University, I would like to welcome you to the Baccalaureate Service
for the graduating class of 2011.
My commendations go to the organizers & the staff for making this event
    possible.
Let me take this opportunity to thank the parents and relatives of our graduates
for trusting us with your children's education.
Most of all,it brings me great joy and pride to congratulate the graduating
    class of 2011.
A big hand for our graduates.
Dear graduates , tomorrow morning, we will be handing you your hard-earned
diplomas representing years of hard work & personal sacrifices which will be
duly recognized & rewarded, accompanied with an atmosphere filled with cheers, a
few tears , and our wishes for a happy journey through life.
Watching you grow and mature personally and intelectually into young men and
women, you will shortly be moving on to start new lives, careers, and for some
of you, eventually, families of your own.
But right now, allow us to hold on to you a little bit longer to let you know
that it was truly been our pleasure to work with you, how proud we are of you,
and of everything you have accomplished here.
A Baccalaureate, by definition, is a farewell sermon to a graduating class. I
would rather like to think of it as a “rite of passage.” Passage not only from
one status in life to another, but passsage from one context of life to another.
On this wonderful day, as we are gathered together to celebrate your academic
success, I have decided to talk to you about certain realities of life.
If, indeed, your years of study here at National University are to take real
meaning, you must keep abreast of the truth of our times and the reality into
    which you are moving.
As this familiar saying goes, life is not a bed of roses. It has its ups and
downs but unfortunately, more downs than ups. There will be times in your lives
when you won't know what the next step is. There will be times in your lives
when you won't know where to go or what to do. These dear graduates are the
struggles and the journeys that make up life.
One reason your future is so exciting is because it is so uncertain. Life keeps
you guessing. The only certainty is that your lives will change and then change
    again.
Be prepared to take risks, and be prepared to fail. There is no harm and no
shame in failure as long as you learn from the experience. Each mistake
represents yet another opportunity to grow and learn.
The humility to know that life is difficult, unpredictable, thrilling,
complicated and beyond anyone's total control, will enable you to survive life's
    uncertainties.
You will never truly know yourself, or the strength of your relationships,
unless you have been tested by life's adversities. What at first appear to be
roadblocks and setbacks are the very things that will get you where you were
    meant to be.
Treasure the knowledge that you will derive from life's lessons, because such
knowledge, is a true gift, an ingredient, that will increase your chances of
    becoming a winner.
I firmly believe that your National University education and National U
experiences will sustain and fortify you throughout your lives, giving you the
ability to improvise in changing times. For this, we pray for the strength and
the wisdom to help you succeed wherever you go & whatever you do.
My dear graduates, always believe in yourself and persevere. Nothing is
impossible! Just keep trying! Never give up, never, never give up! Because the
only person that can stop you from trying is YOU!
I earnestly ask you to be truthful & faithful to your chosen vocation. Live up
to the ideals & the skills that your alma mater has imparted to you. If you
believe in yourself, others will too. And if you have confidence in who you are,
there is no end to what you can accomplish.
I also urge you to conduct your lives wth love, compassion, and respect for
others. Try to leave something that will be lasting. Strive hard to bring the
world towards a better tomorrow making of the future a better place for
yourselves, for your children & for future generations.
In closing, I'd like to convey that graduation day is a special day that you
will always cherish Why, because by graduating together with your classmates,
you are bound by affection and by shared experience of a time that could never
    come again.
Allow me to quote an ancient saying: “life is not how long you live it, but how
good you live it, is what mattes.”
I wish you all very good and fulfilling lives.
    Congratulations and God Bless.

    Mabuhay po ang National University
    Mabuhay po tayong lahat.
    Salamat po.
