Honestly, I have yet to see a martial art or technique that can effectively counter a knife attack.

This is why, when $hit goes down, make sure you're the one holding the knife (and/or gun).
BTW you should check out the "Die Less Often" videos by Marc Denny and Gabe Suarez. It's for LEO and military types that have to deal with knife threats.
good point.
sh1t i hate those real life knife attacks.
parang nararamdaman ko yung bawat tusok.
it must be really terrifying being at the receiving end of a knife.
edit.
i just thought of an effective technique.
use your feet.
run like hell!
^ sayonachi.
Pero I think the best way to supplement your knife defense is to know how to use one.
mas nakakatakot talaga ang knife attack. saka mas masakit yan sigurado. pag nabaril ka di mo pa nga nararamdaman agad. kaya pag may naglabas sa yo ng knife at may baril ka, barilin mo na agad.
Great video! I have been looking for a video like this for a very long time. Thank you for sharing!
I have been a Kali practitioner for a few years now, but this video still managed to jolt me.
Awareness is still the best weapon to have in one's arsenal. Thank you for reminding me.
+ 1100x yes.
lol
as a guy with martial arts background, you got that right. awareness. =DAwareness is still the best weapon to have in one's arsenal. Thank you for reminding me.
Ouch. You can't really predict when or where the man wielding the knife would swish his weapon towards your flesh .. so the best thing to do is be aware / vigilant most of the time ..
Hindi nila iindahin ang suntok mo kahit san pa tumama yan .. basta pag naka lapit sila sayo butas ka...![]()
@franzb69
Yep, brother. All those training would be for naught kung mauunahan tayo ng saksak.
I downloaded this video and watched over and over. I have been aroung blades for years that I've gotten used to them. I kind of lost the fear of blades. After watching this vid, I feel like a Kali newbie again. This is such a wake up call.
Again, excellent find, crocopie!
I saw a demo at the recent Defense and Sporting Arms show at Megamall last week.
You can really thwart a knife attack if you have knowledge how to do it.
The Yantok stick is DEADLY. Open hands needs more training and practice.
@questor
That was the Isla Mandirigma Kali - Kali DeLeon group. Sayang, I wasn't able to watch them. Hope they post a video of the demo on youtube.
Pekiti Tersia Kali? There are a lot probably. But when you say effectively I think it'll mosly lie on the person executing it not the technique per say. Like work, they say that you learn more on your experience than you did in school. It's just that with knives you can't make mistakes![]()
i have a black belt in "saiyo na chi" martial art...
walang sinabi yang kutsilyo or knife attack....
just make sure you are not wearing havaianas before you use my technique...![]()
Tama yan, if you can run, just run. But still, mas maganda pa rin ang may idea sa knifefighting if you get cornered. Or in cases wherein running away is not an option. If I may plug my Kali club - In Sayoc Kali, there are training drills designed to condition the body's natural reflexes to turn them into "correct" responses.
The move a Sayoc Kali practitioner will execute to avoid being cut by an opponent's slash or thrust will elicit a reflexive response in turn from the opponent , a reflexive response that the kali practitioner is trained to exploit, putting himself in a superior position, making him dominate the "fight". It's like making the opponent "move" with you.
