Gaming, in all forms is not practical. Even in sports. If you want some good equipments, then you have to shell some money for it. Video gaming is a luxury. Practicality in it's simplest form is to do something simply yet pleasurable. Kung gusto mo nang praktikal eh di lumabas ka ng bahay ibang bagay ang laruin mo. LOL
Para dun sa mga galit na galit sa mga can-afford, paano ka makakapaglaro ng mga matitinong laro kung hindi mo yun babayaran. Remember that the devs are workers too. They need cash to funds their game development.
Kung okay naman sa'yo na single player/offline gaming lang, then go on. You are missing nearly 75% of the game when you don't go online and play multiplayer with other people. That's the fun factor someone can get when playing online via PS3 or Xbox 360. Still, it depends on the end user.
